My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Back to this weekend

Friday night we rode as a family to a brewery downtown for a fundraiser.

Rolling out together is one of my favorite things.

PEV parking.

We got this sweet painting in the silent auction.

Turns out cute little kids can ride their PEVs almost anywhere they want.

Eventually we start rolling home, and we rolled through campus because it’s more bike friendly.

And by happenstance we ran into some kind of event on campus.

The kids saw people hanging out and wanted to stop.

And We were kind of early but it turned into a kids party!!!

Turns out there was going to be a Drone show so we had to hang out.

The magic of electric skateboards strikes again!!!

Saturday funday

September is a really lovely time in Missouri.

Everyday has been super nice.

We started Saturday with the 2 Lucas flipping out in the backyard.

I got shinny parts in the mail from across the world.
Thanks for the Suggestion @glyphiks
Radium stuff is so sweet… @Tony_Stark

Early afternoon I rallied the daughter to go ride around the tailgates.

It’s college football Saturday and a big home game between Mizzou and Kansas.

This is a household that doesn’t do Sportsball… So we are all kind of oblivious.

But the whole commotion with game day sure is exciting.

As the crow flies the stadium is less than 3 miles from the house…

So getting to the tailgates was snappy.

It was busy and hectic when we got there.
But my daughter had fun seeing the crowd and the Marching band rolling in.

Then we rode downtown for ice cream and that is always a good deal.

Saturday playground hit with the Lucas

After I got home the magic of electric skateboards kept on giving.

The 2 Lucas wanted to go ride at the playground.

Can anyone tell me if you have ever seen two 5-year-olds that are cooler than these dudes?!?

The other Luca rode Luca’s bike.
Luca said he was going to ride his scooter.
But that only lasted about 50 ft and then he got on his Onewheel…

I wanted to enjoy the joy of urethane on the tennis courts so I decided to ride Luca’s little longboard.

And It totally sucked on the chipnseal on the way to the school… But it felt super dreamy on the tennis courts.

So tiny.
So loose…

This is another moment to me that shows the magic of electric skateboards…

I can really enjoy myself riding this super basic low-powered tiny little setup that’s just a 12S1P with a single tiny motor. But with the power of Vesc and some motor amps it totally moves me…
Kinda barely.
But doesn’t matter.
It’s so much fun!!!

Now that these boards are getting so cheap and accessible I wish more people would get into them…

I was riding home from the grocery store the other day and I saw a dude pushing an old longboard at the park on a nice path. But he was kind of struggling.
And I got to thinking, for just 300 some bucks this dude could be on an electric longboard gleaming the cube like Marty McFly…

So accessible…

Monday skatepark hit

So I feel like it’s been a long time since we’ve been to the skatepark…
Enclosure on the Park Board has been broken awhile.
I fixed it so I could ride at the skatepark.

It’s just bent ABS.

I reinforced the corner that broke with the 3D printer pen

Kind of fits in there and then the rails went on top…

.

There were quite a bit of people at the skatepark.
Super nice day…

I did pretty well at the skatepark after not having been there for such a long time.
I did 50/50s on the quarter pipe.
And I didb50/50 slappies on the steps.
A new trick for me I did front side 50/50 slappies on the lower step!!!
It’s weird out front side is totally horrifying to me now…

Then we jumped in the van and drove over to the pump track.

The neighbor kid was there with his Evolved Zealot, which he has been riding quite a bit. So cool

I rode through the pump track a bit with the park board.
I tried to ride my analog board a little bit but it felt really off to me…
I even took the park board on the mini skills park…
All terrain baby!!!

The park board does not have enough juice to make the full pipe.

The park board is a great set up
I still need to pursue smaller wheels.
Because fuck clearance!!!

Wednesday rides

I rode many things today…

Lunch break I wanted to stay close to the house and ended up riding a bunch.

I rode the Almost a Flux with the super Loose Singularitys.

Then I jumped on the EUC to stretch out.
Go EUC for ergonomics!!!

Then I got on the 44 Ultra for the feeling of sweet carves!!!

Then I wanted to ride the Flux because I thought it may feel the best…

And it did.
The Flux reigns supreme.

*El Favorito"

Later on the Gravel Flux and the Uditer got action for school pickup.

I think if there was a world record for most time spent on esk8, you would win

I’m just waiting to find out he’s an influencer with a paid family of actors. Either way, he’s got his money’s worth :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

You know now that you mention it, I HAVE been wondering why all his videos have fine print saying “professional actors on a closed course, do not attempt”

So this month I’m coming up of 9 years of these tiny motors pushing me around.

And in all that time I have influenced 1single local dude to get on esk8…

I am Pretty sure Benji is my only convert…

Oh.
I guess there are 2 neighbor kids too…

But still.
Slim pickings.

Man, I feel like I’m cursed.

My first esk8 friend, we went on a few rides and it was awesome. We would go to this cool maker space and work on boards and ride around downtown. Then one day he was like an hour late meeting up and not responding until I finally got a text that said “hospital”. Dude broke his shoulder and collarbone and I think part of his arm too hitting a hubcap cover on his way over.

Second one was my neighbor and he bought a board and immediately found out they were pregnant with kid #3 and his free time went to -5. He traded his board for an ebike this summer :frowning:

You would have to slow down significantly…

I still remember those parking lots and you are strapped in with your Matrix II and you disappeared… Probably going 45 or something…

Still one of the wildest things I have seen…

I’m not local to you, but you’ve had influence over 3 of my esk8 builds, 3 stock one wheels, and 1 vesc wheel.

Do you try riding switch much @fessyfoo ???

yeah sometimes.

it’s weird how I can be ok at it, then terrible on the next try.

way back in the day I used to push skate to work. (3 mi) there was a while there were I challenged myself to push switch all the way to work. i eventually did it once.

I also have run switch on track, and got good enough that i tried it in a group ride… and… i made two turns, and freaked out. I wasn’t so controlled I couldn’t handle the dynamics of tons of people running every which way. easier to just make specific turns.
