My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

I’m not totally lying to myself.

If I stick to the Pint Platform I have most everything…

I have the Broken board.
I have cells.
I have a UBox 100V.

So really all I need to buy will be a ZBMS…

Now… If I try to make this on an XR platform it will get away from me quickly…

Let’s check back later to see where it lands…

Mario @TheBoardGarage do you think the Ubox is ok with 20S?

I don’t plan on being super demanding on this board. And can scale it down to 18S…

But it would be easier to make it another 20S like the other Pint

Grab a stoked stock bms instead of the zbms. You can see individual cell readouts for the same price!

Happy Mother’s Day kids!!!

This morning we went on a couple of rides to get flowers…

The first time the store was closed…
Fortunately PEVs make running around fun…

So we were glad to go a second time.

I didn’t expect much riding to happen today or tinkering…

But my wife went down to take a nap… And I needed some mental distraction.

So on the bench goes the Demonseed.

Al @glyphiks I’m committing the sin of messing with a perfectly running set up!!!

Turns out current state the Demonseed is great.
The MAD Max 125s were a great fit on here.

But… Turns out the V1 and the Demonseed are too close in feeling…

So I thought of doing something.

And I wanted to find a purpose for the 3 links…

So let’s try 3 links on the Demonseed.

The most pressing question is can I put the trucks on without extensions?

And Yes. It fits.

No concerns with wheel bite
It did not look like a ton of movement.

So I decided to make the heim taller.

And it adds a good bit of height.

But I am going to try it like this.

Getting to sprinkle some tinkering in this morning.

Unfortunately it involves doing battle with the 3 links which is more hard than it is enjoyable.

I had to lower the heim.
Flip the bracket.
Change to the shorter arms. (This sucked)
And move the motor mounts (This also sucked)

I got the 3 links to the point I can put them on the board.

So I had to put the Demonseed on the bench to get the back drive apart.

It’s always something…

Luckily Minor and the we got to celebrate two successful pulley extractions.

I just sat down after realizing I have to take the motor mounts apart to get these motors out…
All motor mounts should have slots out the back to just slide the motors out…

I also got new MBS motor mounts.

It’s so weird getting esk8 parts from a real company.

It’s got real packaging, and instructions and stuff…

I am wondering how well a loctite free mount will fare?!?
But these are all beefy bolts.

I never trust anyone who says their esk8 parts dont need loctite lol. Always at least a drop of blue.

What about the Loctite and nylon Lock nut cunundrum?

Nylock nuts are the only things on my esk8 I dont loctite, and they need to be replaced periodically as the nylon wears out.

Today I continued feverishly to work on the Demonseed 3 links.

I got the trucks on and the wheels on.

And with the Heim extended it was super tall…
It was dumb…

So I decided to do it all again and lower the heim back…

So I proceeded to take shit apart…

Twiste axles, transform heights…

All the good stuff.

But shortening one of the Links was too much.

The threads on these were buggered.
And I pushed through…

And snap…

Off course…
There is too much going on with these trucks for someone like me… So many connections waiting to become failure points…

But I tried not to get too pissed and continue to work on the rear.

Later in the evening I went and put the pulleys in.

And put a splint on the broken link.

In Tesa we Trust!!!

After countless hours I was finally going to be able to give it a try.

And guess what???

It felt like shit…
It’s tall, and twitchy, and awkward.
And not a good carve at all…

Such a classic DIY is a Disease day…

I’m going to slap the Razillian RKPs back on here.
And keep the tires on…

Hopefully I can pass the 3 Links(aka 22 connections) to someone else that can find a way to appreciate them.

This is a perfect encapsulation of exactly what I imagined the first time I saw these trucks :joy:

They are so loose and twitchy! They do well at speed but man… they do not give a fun or engaging ride feel.

I had a much better experience with the Llama, but I think it was way different because of the super extended wheel base.

It was close to as tall…
But did not feel like it.

And it was much smoother turning and carving.
I think the length dampened the twitchyness…

It was good.
I just loved other things more…

This set up was dog shit…

I just went and rolled on it again to make sure I wasn’t just angry last night…

And this is really just not good…

Ok. So I wanted to distract myself with something more mellow this morning.

My buddy Daniel printed a new set of sticky feet for the GT

It’s definitely time for the Ignite padded grip tape to go.
I do love this stuff…

Unfortunately as I peeled it off the bottom layer of adhesive stayed on…

This has got to be one of the biggest pains in the ass in the world.

But I set through a meeting and slowly peeled it off and got it all done.

Then we just had a little bit of double-sided tape.

Daniel eyeballed it and made the template. And after a couple iterations it’s a perfect fit.

I don’t know how long this sticky feet stuff lasts.
But immediate first impressions are so good.

It looks cool.
It’s easy to work with.
And when you stand on it you really few glued to the board!!!

Oh.
I did manage another DIY related injury while doing the grip tape…

I had the one wheel on my lap peeling off the adhesive.
I somehow turned it on…
And activated it for a second making the wheel spin suddenly… That got me some nice rug burn on my arm…
