My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Today I rode 15 miles on the Flux.

Everything is really green now!!!

I love the Flux.
These tires are plush and smooth.

And I feel so comfortable on the Dualitys.
I actually took my GPS today and I was cruising at 30 a whole bunch.
Just sitting there at 30 feeling like it’s 20…
Tito’s magic.

jumping back to Thursday May Day 2025.

After getting Lucas new board setup we loaded up the van with a bunch of toys to go up to the school playground.

It was urethane fever!!!

I started off on the V1 which has been super fun.
I made it super loose. And it’s super low.
I’m digging the Caguamas on here.
But I am pondering putting back the ABec 111s because The super free roll feeling

The Demonseed felt really tight compared to the V1… It was short lived.

Even the Rayne Crush felt too tight…

I’ve experienced a weird snowball effect from using the Singularitys from @RipTideSports because they give you so much lean and turning, that I have had to adjust all my other sets ups to be loose.

But loose is the vibe.
After this when I got home I changed bushings on both boards to be way looser…

I just hope I don’t catch some wobbles going a little bit faster one of these days with these loose ass trucks…

But it had to be done.

Loose is the vibe!!!

In the mean time the boys are cruising around and Luca is killing it on the Dinghy…

Electric Skateboards are awesome!!!

Sooner than later I need to go on a Dinghy cruise with Luca!!!

It was a lovely Saturday evening.

I needed to go pick up Luca at the neighbor’s house.

And I decided to take the V1.

We are hanging out on their driveway when disaster strikes!!!

I accidentally punched the remote and the board takes off hitting Luca straight on.

It just swept his feet and he slammed his face down.

Split lip and blood everywhere …

*** If you ever pondered whether to get a dead man switch on your remote or not. I could have used one last night***

So there is panic, crying and screaming and blood everywhere…

I was especially freaking out because I thought he also broke his teeth.

So I called my wife to get us to the ER and she zipped down the street.

Luckily there were no broken teeth.
It was just the lip.

Took 5 stitches.

And in about 3 hours we were back home.

The little dude is a trooper.

I feel horrible…

I’m also really glad I didn’t take out one of the other tiny children on the driveway.

Over the years I have had accidentally sent the board with the remote a solid 5 times where it caused a sketchy situation…

I destroyed a deck and trucks once…

This one was much worse…

Remember to turn the remote off kids!!!

I’m happy to report Luca didn’t skip a beat and we were back riding the next day!!!

Sunday was the Earth Day celebration downtown and we rode down as a family(plus 1 extra kid)

I rode the GT because onewheels are ideal for being around a bunch of people.
Luca rode his bike there to cover the distance.
But brought the Lectec in the trailer to ride around.
Naia rode the Fiido, and her friend rode the Deathscooter.
And my wife had Max on the Portola and the trailer with stuff!!!

Definitely more fun than taking the minivan.

It was a perfect day for chilling at the park.

Luca is all about riding so we had to go cruise around on his board.

We rode up to the Plaza that was the old skateboard hot spot and kids were out there skating!!!

It was momenta after this unfortunately that the Lectec died… R.I.P.

ESC must have a short. Power button is stuck. Motors had a ton of resistance…

Hopefully Jared can get me a replacement. Or I will slap a Vesc in here…

I guess I can’t say DIY is a disease here.
This was a pre built…
I suppose DIY may be the salvation…

We pulled the belt off and he rolled analog back to the park…

It was a great outing, and I love riding as a family.

One of these days I’m going to get Max riding something on his own to make it even cooler.

The other kids were ripping it up!!!

Some tinkering stuff.

Going back to earlier this past weekend, I changed the Grip tape on the ION Drive V1.

I thought it was really gorgeous how it came…

But I wanted some padded grip tape on here!!!

I love the Ignite padded grip tape from 1wheelparts… It’s awesome.

The Hummie Deck is quite stiff, so I wanted some dampening, which the 4mm cushion does well.

The deck is also a smidge narrow. So my back toe hangs out…
I tend to do this on most boards…
The edge felt sharp.
And the padded grip tape take that pressure point off

And the grip on this stuff when it’s new is supreme…

Taking off the little hexagons sucked …

At some point I broke out the heat gun… And off course managed to fuck up the coating on the deck…

This is why we can’t have nice things…

I wanted to make a design similar to what I have on the Demonseed.

The only difficult part with this pad a grip tape is cutting the sides.
To get them smooth I take the side of the board and then sanded them with the Dremel

I’m totally stoked on how I came out both the way it looks and the way it feels.

Sweet!

I’m kinda of caught up to today.

And today I started the process of making the Almost a Flux back into a Mountain board.

This is going to be much more than a wheel swap…

I need to:
Swap wheels.
Swap one motor.
Swap truck axles.
Swap mounts.
Swap drive.
Replace the bottom panel.

I should really consider thicker ABS for the bottom of the thane board…

Remember kids celebrate every successful pulley removal.

And I’m a huge fan of butyl tape. Until you have to take stuff apart…

Yesterday I jumped on the 3D printed grip tape Bandwagon.

My buddy Daniel brought some samples of a variation of the Sticky Feet for me to try and I slapped them on the Pint.

It’s really interesting stuff.

Relatively easy to work with.

Provides some cushion.

And when you are standing on it, it seems to really have good grip…

One of these days I will slap some on an Esk8.

Luca approves!!!

I tried to tinker on the almost a Flux today…

It was a miss…

I was wanting to put Tito’s mounts on my Matrix III.

I had used the Radium matrix III mounts on the Dualitys.
And being basic, I assumed it would also go the other way and I could put Tito’s mounts on The Matrix III.

Not so much.

I even hacked at them for a half an hour before deciding to buy some mounts…

The Radium mounts are amazing.
But out of stock…
I looked at the Mboards mounts and they look really good.
But They have no side to side movement.
I think that would probably be a problem.

So I ordered the mounts from MBS.

I got out this afternoon on the Demonseed.
Monster wheels and loose trucks.

I caught a rock on the Mad Max

It was a perfect day. I rode around with My onewheel buddy Daniel.

On the trail we ran into a little snake we tried to move out of the way. And it looks like it was an actual venomous one. Angry little bastard did not want to be saved.

I rode the gravel trails a bunch. But it’s pretty dang sketchy to do on these wheels…

I got to some successful tinkering today!!!

The Newbee drives from Evan arrived.

So I put the Box Turtle on the bench.

Pulled out the enclosure and ripped out the motors.

Slapping the drives on went super smoothly.

The hardest part was peeling the Butyl tape off…

I didn’t take many pictures of the process apparently…

But here we go.

The Box Turtle is back.
Now with Newbee 4GS and Flipsky 6384 190kV.
I am sticking with 175mm tires even though I kinda wanted smaller tires on here…
I needed The larger diameter for speed. And also I like the cushion.

Ha. I forgot.
I fell at the school playground last night…

Silly thing really…

I was going around the corner on the sidewalks next to the building and turned too wide and my front wheel slipped down to the grass…

The front Duality baseplate hits and just fucking stops like a pebble does a regular skateboard…

The mark on the ground even looks like a pebble…

Fortunately it was not a big deal…

Last night I also did a smidge of late night tinkering.

It’s amazing how there’s always so much for me to do with all these freaking boards…

I got the Nicky down because I thought the aluminum pulley look worn out…

I changed it to a steel pulley … But It was really not as bad as I thought…

The other thing is that the ABS had cracked.
Obviously using the super thin ABS brings some issues.

It’s easy to use… But not very resilient…

At some point I need to change the ABS but that’s a bigger job.
For now it’s a stuck some butyl tape on there. butyl tape can hold it all together!!!

We started Friday off on good note.

I put the Lectec on the bench.

The plan was to see what I need to do to vesc it.

But I thought to unplug the battery from the ESC and that brought it back to life…

Since it was up there I took out the piece of shit M3 pulleys and put some real ones on…

It was 60/20 down to 40/14. Close enough.

It is a perfect sunny day here.

I took off for lunch break ride on the newly upgraded Box Turtle.

It’s a very enjoyable setup now. Good speed. Really good power.
Much carvy.

I don’t love it quite as much as I love to flux because it sits a little bit higher.
So the carving feeling is a different experience.

But it’s really quite good right now.

Unfortunately after less than 5 miles I start hitting 80C on the motors.

The same thing used to happen with the previous drive here… And it’s the main reason I wanted to upgrade.

Anyways I turned motor amps down from 95 to 80.

I turn field weakening amps down from 40 to 30

And I turn the motor threshold up from 85 to 95…

Hope this does not get someday…

After changing the settings I didn’t experience anymore sluggishness.
I did take it a little bit easier.
And I kept looking at temps and didn’t seem to go over 80…

On the way home through campus I kept seeing all these groups of college kids walking around.

I finally realized they’re all heading to this area of town where there’s going to be big street parties tonight!!!

School just ended Friday night time for the kids to get crunk!!!

You running field weakening? How much extra speed did it get you? I’m considering setting it up on my mountainboard

Flip it on dude. Give it a try

It easy enough…

I’m only running it on the box turtle and recently.

On the bench 30 amps gets me 4 more miles.
40 gets me 5 more…

While riding yesterday I reached 31.5…
So it does give me a tiny bit more.

@Soflo have you paid attention to how much extra speed you get?

No tinkering. And just a little bit of riding today…

I rode the EUC and Onewheel in front of the house in the morning for a warm up.

Took videos of the various Irises popping up in neighbors yards…

Late in the evening the kids were stirring… So we decided to ride over to the playground for a bit.

Luca wanted to ride his Onewheel there but also take a skateboard and scooter, so packed the trailer with a few things. And brought the two thane longboards.

Also worth noting today I got a broken Onewheel Pint I’m going to try to Vesc without it becoming a huge money pit…

Keep us updated on that VESCed pint, I’m about to Vesc my OW plus and I’m curious how you will go about it.
