My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Thursday I did it up though.
Much riding!!!

I went to meet a buddy downtown for lunch.

I had actually planned on taking the Dinghy.
But the battery was really low.

So I decided to take the Nicky.

And I enjoyed some real skateboard type vibes!!!

As a reminder this is a 12S1P with a single 6354 motor. It’s not very powerful.
But it’s so much fun and I would never get this up.
It really takes me back to like my childhood days when I was rolling down sidewalks in giant '80s boards.

I got frisky downtown Slappy grinding some curbs. And even ollied off a step and up a curb.

Super stoked!!!

The ride ended up being 6.6 mi and I did not have much battery at all on the way home and struggled on the hill up to my house.

I got to do school pick up on the gravel flux but today I took the bike instead of the one wheel.

The little dude went down the grass hill on the bike for the first time with no issues.

Later in afternoon I had to take the little dude over to a playdate, and of course we rode there together.

After dropping him off I went and did a few laps around the neighborhood, and I have to say that I’m really loving this board and I’m stoked that somehow it all came together. Even though there’s some loose ends to still tie on here so there’s some some stuff to do…

I note a suspicious lack of 3-wheeled devices Raf…… number 20 can solve that!

Do drift trikes work on chipnseal…?

They would take up a bunch of floor room too…

Hey he’s got a point, gotta even out the numbers

Getting to a specific number is really hard.

By the time I get the 3 projects running, something is bound to break…

I get that. I was joking :upside_down_face:

Well.
These look cool as hell just out of the box…

@MBS
If you were a guy like me, that didn’t buy the 200x70 tubes…

Would you try to rub then with 200x50 tubes? Or 2.5/4 tubes?

I’m leaning towards the 2.5/4…

Also these look like they may run pretty well on flats…

Woah those are some wide tires :face_exhaling::joy:
What hubs are you running them on?

On Trampa Phatladz. Which are made for 9 inch tires too…

So I hope they would be ok.

If push comes to shove I could move the MBS XL hubs from the Gravel Flux to here!!!

Fuck .
I think push is going to come to shove…

It’s not looking good on the Phatladz…

I had a couple of real “DIY is a Disease” moments today…

Perhaps the universe thought what I was doing was wrong…

Because in so many ways it felt wrong…

I took my shinny new Dualitys off of the Almost a Flux to put Matrix IIIs on there…

Why would anyone possibly do such a thing…???
Well… For science!

But on the last bolt to take off the front truck I had to cut it off because of how I had the handle on there… The screw got stripped…

So seriously annoying… Thank goodness for Dremels.

The incorrect tube of choice was the 200x50…
The bigger tubes were not going to fly.

And even with clamps I was not going to get these tires to work on the Phatladz…

So in comes the DIY is a disease moment…
Because now I need to take the wheels off the Gravel Flux which had been buttonned up so nicely…

I suppose It’s worth mentioning sometimes it pays to be a hoarder. Because I had a whole extra set up I could take wheels from to make this work.

Doesn’t seem like that big of a difference…

I also had to use clamps to make the MBS wheels work. But it was definitely doable… And I felt like I had no chance with the Phatladz…

I need to also get a picture next to the Mudpluggers. But these things are cool.

The Gravel Flux is back together with the wheels it had in the first place… So I suppose they are meant to be here.

These wide ass tires look really wild to me!!!

I had to dig through my standoff stash to get the chain sprockets far enough from the wheel…
Definitely a consideration with these tires. They stick way out.

These tires look so cool…
The look alone makes me happy.

I didn’t have any issues on my first rides. And really only rode them on smooth roads.

But they seem good.

Looks like monster trucks… and yeah building things that just look good to yourself is half of the hobby!!

haha. I know those days. Final result looks amazing though! The traction on those is pretty crazy.

Let me know how those 200x50 tubes stand the test of time.

FYI, the last run of XL hubs were did (including the ones used for the AGENT Explorer boards) are 3mm wider than the originals you have. It’s not much but does make assembly a touch easier.

This is beautiful work @rafaelinmissouri

It makes me wish I had done the same thing with mine haha.

Did you notice any change in flex of the deck when you mounted the abs sheet underneath? I might end up redoing my top box Croix to be like yours.

Also, on the inserts going to deep and splitting the board - I did the exact same thing on my first lacroix . Some wood glue and a clamp fixed it up great tho

That makes me feel better…

That one snuck right by me.

I got really thin Abs for this…
It sure doesn’t change anything about the deck…

Ok.
So why did we put Matrix III back on here?

Because Brad @RipTideSports is an artist/mad scientist, and he is saving these trucks from a life of shame with the Singularity Bushings.

So the Almost a Flux, continues to be in a state of flux as we move parts around.
