After getting home from school drop off It didn’t actually seem super horribly cold outside, even though it actually was but I decided you know what let’s go and ride this freaking thing…
I have not done the ABS plate on the bottom… And I don’t super want to get the tape covering the wires wet…
But the roads were mostly dry.
So I gave the Dualitys 7 quarter Turns in the back.
5 quarter Turns in the front, and carried it to the street.
These trucks are just so easy and playful.
And I just throw them side to side and the board dips and slashes so hard.
I was able to do U Turns on my road both ways so easily!!!
Dualitys are the only trucks I can do that so well besides DKP…
The chains felt solid and sounded great. Will be even better with a little bit of wax added.
Now the deck was really interesting.
I think I’m going to like it.
I really do.
it’s really totally familiar to the Flux but it has this delightful pocket for the back foot that’s really nice and the concave on the front might be just right so I think I think it’s going to be good.
I just rode 2 miles.
The cold got to me.
I am looking forward to more soon!!!
I drove to the school and was going to ride the GT around the building and just about 5O yards from the van I’m going up the sidewalk and the nose just drops…
I was going slow and just ran it out.
Super proud of that!!!
First nosedive since I Vesced…
The battery was super low, and it was super cold, so it’s no wonder it happened.
I think it’s really cool that you include your kids in everything. Were they naturally interested or did you kind of push them towards it? I have two little girls, one is 6 and the other 10 months. The 6 year old wanted a skateboard so I got her one but she never wants to ride it. She’s already into dresses, nail polish, jewelry and other girl stuff I don’t understand. Would love to get her interested in outside fun, esk8, climbing, hell I’d even settle for paddle boarding but don’t want to push too hard. Just wondering if there’s a magic dad trick that I don’t know about.
This has got to be one of the most DIY is a disease moment I’ve had here.
All I wanted to do was put an ABS sheet on the bottom to protect the cables.
All I was going to do was the exact same thing I just did on the gravel flux and use the existing inserts to bolt the ABS sheet down to.
It was nice.
I had just done it.
Well the lacroix deck had insert holes but no inserts.
I tried one of my inserts and it was a perfect fit.
So I decided to just send it and put those inserts all around.
These are obviously not the inserts they use because on the side most of the holes were too shallow and I managed to actually split the deck open and several places.
We had to have the 3rd little one for me to actually get one that is really into this stuff with me.
I include them in everything or let them be part of anything they want to be part of. But it’s practically impossible to make them do anything or convince them to do anything that they don’t want to do, at least with my spoiled ass kids…
The 10 year old girl likes riding her bike. And can ride the onewheel a little bit…
But she is not eager to get into it more.
She does not seem into the skateboards…
The middle boy is 8 and still wont ride a bike…
He is not super interested on the skateboards either…
He gets on the Onewheel inside the house and goes really small distances.
But he has a Hoverboard he kills on.
He flows on that thing said the house like is one with it.
It’s super cool.
The Little dude that’s 5 and he is the one that’s super into all the stuff.
And he has been for a couple years now.
But he also has this strange natural athletic talent that the other two don’t have
So he can do all this stuff that he tries pretty much first try.
He kills it on his electric bike.
He rode the electric skateboard all over the neighborhood that day he got it.
And he keeps getting better and better on the one wheel.
He doesn’t ride the E20 a whole lot.
The one we would think is the thing that he’s most well connected with these days.
The only real advice I’m trying to give to all parents now is something I wish someone had told me with a much stronger tone years ago.
Get rid of the little screens get rid of the iPad get rid of the iPhone they’re really bad get rid of them.
Kind of what I thought as far as them just naturally being interested or not. Agreed on the screen thing. My daughter is painting right now but the weather is great, we could be skating! I won’t give up on her yet but hopefully the 10 month old will be more interested in physical activity.
Something else I thought about…
I really wanted them to love the skateboards because I do so much…
But over time that faded. And I am just happy if they ride anything…
So, maybe it’s not the skateboard… But she may get into a scooter, or trike, or hoverboard…
Another thing I just thought about is we have a neighbor kid that is a bit older and they all love… And if I get him to do something they get excited about it…
So if you can get her friends into the skateboard, or whatever rideable, that could be a motivator.
Might seem like an odd question but did you get her something you would want to ride?
I find a lot of parents buying a skateboard or a penny board for their kids which is usually better optimized for other things. Buying a solid quality longboard that YOU like does 2 things
1: makes it easier and more appealing for your kid to try just riding.
2: even if they don’t use it, you have a nice new longboard.
And something else to consider and this is easy for us because our house is already destroyed.
But there it’s always a skateboard around inside the house that they can stand on, or onewheel these days.
So the access is always there. It might be close to a railing and they’ll just jump on and play around and become more comfortable with it.
Yay.
It’s was Saturday February 22nd.
And yesterday we got above freezing after an entire week of winter hellscape!!!
I went on a 7.5 miles ride on the Almost a Flux, and it was glorious.
I feel like I had not gone on a real ride outside of the neighborhood in so long.
I am really stoked on this setup. It turned out really good. The deck is nice, The trucks are magical, The chains work great. Pumped.
I had never gone down these to stairs on esk8 before.
With the chains I don’t really have to worry about damaging gear drive so it’s cool.
I did have to bottom out and kind of slide through the first step.
The cold might be gone but the salt is going to be here for a while.
The reality is that I really need to stop buying parts.
And I fought everyday to resist these Mad Max wheels.
I would suffer. And deny myself the joy in the name of prudence…
And then I caved…
And I’m so glad I finally gave in and got them because anybody that likes electric skateboards should get these.
@Mikenopolis this is my only current set up running idlers.
I try to be cool like Dkwan and run the belts super loose. (Mostly because I don’t have the ideal size)
And it’s no issue with the acceleration but with hard breaking I’m getting a ton of skipping…
Every day after school the little dude has to go down the steep grass hill.
To middle boys getting into standing up in the trailer. It makes me want to make some kind of platform with wheels on the back of it so he can stand on it like a chariot.
The awesomess continued because the little dude had teacher conferences and we rode up there together.
And wait… We are not done with Monday rides…
The boys had Judo which is only 1.6 mi away from the house and obviously since it was nice out,I took the gravel flux.
It’s amazing how these feels that were not even intended to go on here have totally brought this board to life for me.
I went 31.4 mph on it!!! That’s the very top of the scale for me.
I doubt I ever went over 25 on the pneumatics.
The MADS are not as good as pneumatics on the chipnseal roads that are all over my neighborhood. But that’s really horrible shit and once I get on any kind of road that’s at all decent the MADs feel so smooth and plush.
And off course I get to squeeze a little bit more range out of my 12S3P battery in this board.
So this is really kind of wild. But on the way back which is a good half mile he says he wants to race me home.
Which we kind of did and he pretty much booked it the whole time.
