My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Day one of testing the Singularitys went well.
But I only rode about 8 miles between three variations because it was cold.

@Facko what are your recommendations on chain tension?

How does this look,?

I said leaving minimal tension on the video but I meant to say leaving minimal slack.

So I actually have more tension on there now than I used to have.

Bro it is Ok. It is pretty similar like here (this short make for me @JeffyJ when he was asking the same question):

Important is to do not have it In tension like belt. Slack of chain is allowed. But not so big slack. If You have no slack but on chain is no tension and wheels are rotated free, it is ok. Hope my English is clear:)

Today I rolled downtown to meet my wife for Lunch.

So before that I got to play the really fun game of PEV roulette.

Today’s chosen weapon was the smallest possible one!!!

The Dinghy for the win!!!

It ended up being 6 miles there and back.

And what a wild 6 mi it is!!!

I hope folks can appreciate how tiny this thing is.

Good stuff!!!

Happy Friday and happy spring time!!!

On newer news. Today March 7th 2025, I hit 2000 miles on the EUC.

The Leaperkim Patton has been rock solid this whole time.
Quite literally, the only thing I’ve had done is a voluntary tire change.

It’s probably coming up in about 2 years since I got into EUCs.

And look @Venom121212 , I don’t have 11 of them…

I do really enjoy riding this though, and it still blows my mind that I can go down all these stairs!!!

Makes me feel young!!!

It’s amazing outside.
And I just got this little part in the mail.

And it it’s going to unravel some serious shuffling of parts.

I always deliberated about buying a second wheel but there’s too much overlap

I want a small wheel really bad… But ain’t dropping the cash on one…

I think I would really enjoy a Begode Falcon or the Nosfet Aero to play with around the front of the house…

Ok.
So much went down yesterday.

Parts were shuffled and boards transformed.

I got part of a baseplate from Tito to change my MTB 300 Dualitys. To a flat board set up.
Thanks to Riptide Singularitys I have found a new love for my Matrix III trucks, and decided to o leave them in the Almost a Flux and do something else with these Dualitys.

I decided to slap the flat Dualitys on the Llama that currently has the 3 links.

The 3 links may end up on the Demonseed, or for sale… Not sure yet.

I wonder how much mushrooms Tito was on when he designed these trucks because they are such a trip.

But I totally think it’s cool that by buying an extra $75 part I can have a set of trucks I can go either on the mountainboard deck or on a flat deck.

Here they sit in their flat configuration.

I also decided to take my Meepo tires and put them on the Hubbas, to use on here.

I was hoping for a smaller diameter tire, And it’s a very small difference, I guess I’ll take it.

There goes the Neighborhood!!!

I love the clean look of the Dualitys.

Front was was easy… Time to take the back apart.

The pulley pullers did their job. So taking the three links off what’s uneventful.

Then I slapped the shiny new trucks on there.

I had to break out the angle grinder to grind off screws that were sticking off the back too much.

I had to actually switch over to the shorter Tito mounts that I had. Which I almost sent back…

I had lost a little circlip for one of my reacher Motors

It’s funny to see how the small sprocket is already getting worn down…

And finally for a very brief DIY is a disease moment…
I set up the front trucks with the hanger upside down so I had to disassemble them and put them back together…

So there it is the Llama now on Dualities.

I’m stoked on the look.
I only wrote it up and down the block so I can’t say much about it yet.
It does not have as tight of a turning radius as the flux on duality does.

But once I get more miles on it I’ll report more.

I had two goals switching from dualities to three links,

One was to reduce the wheelbase.
Two was to reduce the ride height.

Of course I didn’t take proper measurements before taking shitapart so I’ll never know…
But I think I made ever so slight improvements in both.

Ooof.
While on the bench yesterday I noticed that I had smashed my heat sink into my enclosure some…

So instead of a seal I had nice little grate that water could get in there…

I’m so glad I didn’t actually destroy this board getting it wet…

So I slapped a bunch of silicone all around it!!!

Tinkering is fine and I sure love it…

But riding is the real juice baby.

And last night we rode up to the school playground as a family and it was an awesome evening!!!

Last night I also managed a really weird esk8 injury…

When I was hanging the Flux up in the garage,
I missed the hook and dropped the board on my Toe…

It Maybe hard to see but sure fucking hurts.

I need to devise a system, where I just lift the board up to the wall and a little hook comes down and grabs the front truck.
So I’m not lifting these giant mountain boards at all.

It’s Monday. March 17th.
And a new PEV arrives!!!

This one has 2 wheels and it’s intended for the 10 year old.

The Fiido D3 is in the house.
With the hopes it will enhance Family ride opportunities, and will be a more legit ride than the Deathscooter…

It will be an added bonus if the middle boy rides it.

It’s such a tiny little thing…

The first ride home from school with it was a success.

Spring has sprung and we had a bunch of days of 70 degrees and it’s light until after 7. And life is good.

I had not been riding a ton because I had the crud last week and yada yada…

I finally got to take the Almost a Flux out in the woods, with the Singularitys!!!

It was amazing.
These trucks are really cool with these bushings and I could get around super well on this giant behemoth of a Deck.

So I love the deck.
I love the trucks.
I am really loving the tires!!!

Yey.

But the board is fucked up…
The 41/9 gearing on 190kv is not ok.

And a heavy guy such as myself should not try to be cool and rub a board without a heat sink…

The way I crammed the Unity under the battery in the Yellow box was cute and all.

But it was a little furnace in there.

So I had to open up the board.

I had ordered a new set of chain sprockets from Facko to jump up a tiny bit to 44/9

But what really needed to happen was moving the Unity up to the top and adding the heat sink…

And that’s what we got into today.

I also took the 12S7P battery from the gravel flux and swapped it with a 12S6P that’s in here.

I had to open the very bottom of the board to get to the boats they were holding down the unity.
That made it such a pain in the ass.

It’s all fun and games until you start having to take butyl tape apart.

The fortunate thing is that the battery fits in there fine and the cables reach up to the lid.

The box got secured down again, using shorter bolts.

Then I proceeded to poorly cut the lid of the box.

I’m not using both of the plates that usually go with the Infinisink. I am just using the outer part.
That gets bolted in siliconed to the box.

I’ll make a few more passes of silicone before this is all done.

So I just laid the battery in there. Then I flop the unity over. And it gets sandwiched down with the lid.

So oh yeah, The energy is not even attached with a boat to the heat sink. But I put some thermal paste on there and I think there’s plenty of good contact.
Either way this is going to be a huge improvement over having it below the battery.

After that I moved on to putting on the larger sprockets which just required removing the rear wheels and taking off five little nuts to remove the sprocket.

I had a real scary moment because the chains I have are not long enough for me to put on with the adjustment that I have with the motor mount.
I figured out that I could remove the sprocket then get the chain on there and then insert the wheel into the sprocket and have just the right spacing.

It all worked out. I have one more P group in the battery here.
I have slightly taller gearing.
And the Unity actually has a heat sink now.

I’m stoked about taking it back out to the woods tomorrow!!!

I also decided to go ahead and send it, and add a few studs to the deck.
I just did three in the front and three in the back.

This board does pretty well going up and down curbs.

Could not be doing this shit with Dualitys on here…
