My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Duuuude…
Dang.
So much catching up to do here…

So…

Much…

Fuck…
So I want to go back and talk about all the cool things that happened this summer.

But that is too hard.

Maybe I’ll find the time later and come back…

But for now I want to jump back in and just talk about day to day stuff and what I rode today.

It is Tuesday October 15th.
It was a really cool fall day here in Missouri…felt like 35 this morning.

For my lunch break ride I went out on the GTVX.

My buddy Daniel came over and we headed off to the nearby trails.

He did this really gnarly tree log ride…

I’m 47 now, and crept back up to about 220 lbs, so I am not doing anything like that what so ever…

I just like mellow cruising…

It was cool outside, but the sun was shining and it was beautiful outside.

The water in the creek was perfectly clear, and the woods already look way different than summer with the vegetation thining out.

Sweet lunch break ride that ended up at 8.8 miles.

The Gravel Flux continues to be a Rockstar.

I cleaned it up this summer…

I use it everyday for school pickup!!!

20241015_155512_1

Pick up looks a little bit different this year because all 3 kids are at the neighborhood school.

So I pack the little dudes bike on the trailer haul it to the school and he rides it back along side us.

It’s so freaking cool!!!

I didn’t ride anymore today.

But I did do some tinkering to take care of a couple easy things.

A couple weeks ago I finished my skatepark board again.
There were two park boards for a while…
Then one battery died, and I took the other one apart… Yada yada…

I realized the running board did not have the narrower Akashas, so I needed to fix that.

I took them off the Hosoi, and slapped them on the Nicky Guerrero.

The wheels are a minor change. But these narrower ones are the way to go. And the core on the other ones have delaminated…

It was funny to see this BN pulley had lost most of it’s pins…

I’m super stoked on this board.

Today I also changed the tires on the Llama.

I had started on CST 190x50s here.
They were really good.
Recently I put the Clever 200x50 knobbies on the Llama.

It was ok for a few rides. I was thinking they would be good fall tires with all the slick stuff that comes down with falls…

But it was a no go. Board felt too tall.
And had a slight vibration from the knobbies.

So I dug out Evolve 175x50 white walls I have had for a long time.

I’m quite happy with the look.

I generally have had good luck with the Evolve 7s.

I moved the Motor mounts up a little because they hung too low… And I’m loosing some clearance…

I would even like to try some 6 inch tires on here…

But let’s run these for a while.

I expect I will enjoy the added torque.

But I also think I need to try running field weakening to bump up my top speed.

I have not ran field weakening on esk8 before…

Thanks.
I am surprisingly happy with the white walls.

I have had them around on a shelf for a long time…

I didn’t ride a whole lot today.

I didn’t make it out during lunch time, and in the evening it felt cold and it was not the vibe.

I did ride 2 miles on the Gravel Flux for school pickup.
But it was especially tame and I took the short way because the battery was dying.

— it’s hard to keep batteries charged…

I also rode a little over 3 miles on the Death Scooter.

One of these days I will do a write up on this little monster!

It’s is one of the cool things that happened this summer.

But as it goes it had already died… old Meepo ER pack finally kicked the bucket.

But today I finally pushed through a tiny battery build.

Just a tiny P42A 12S1P pack.

I drained it down to 42 volts in just 3.2 miles…

But it should do better with the kids.

It’s a perfect day here…

I should be out riding…

I wanted to go on a family ride, but convincing everyone to get excited was a fail.

I jumped on the EUC this morning for a bit of a warm up.
Went over to the bridge to check out the creek

Later on in the afternoon I had pick up on the Gravel Flux.

I have about 5-10 minutes between getting the little dude and the other 2, and I just do circles around these squares.

I love it how the little dude gets into carving!!!

After work I did tool around the front of the house on the EUC and even decided to get the little ramp out.

We have another perfect and warm fall day here, and I got to get out at lunch time to run an errand.

The ride of choice was the Demonseed which is currently on the Razillian trucks as TKPs.

It’s nice to get out on a board that is not giant sometimes…

I love the giant boats I usually ride.

But this is a nice change.

Compared to the big boards this is so compact.

I actually came off the board 3 times on this short ride…

This sidewalk dip was not there before… And I was cruising pretty good and looking at the scenery and saw it right before I hit it.
I actually rode it out.
But had to stop and come off the board because I almost had a heart attack.

This one I saw coming… I didn’t expect I would make it through…

And finally I have to step off to get this stick out…

Some more riding got sprinkled around yesterday.

The usual 3 miles for school pickup, which is always fun.

In the evening I need to run down to the corner market for dinner stuff, and I rolled down on the Patton.

The real surprise was going out at 11, and doing 10 miles on the Patton and hitting a bunch of stairs.

It was an interesting weekend for riding.

Saturday we went to the pumpkin patch, and for the second year in a row I took the onewheel.

Onewheels are great for parenting.

I think it’s the least intimidating of all PEVs, and you can ride it near people without them freaking out.

And that is why I try to take one to pretty much anything I can.

This has been my experience too, which makes the OW more appealing for certain environments.

Sunday there was a memorial 5k Run/Walk here in the neighborhood.

I rode the GT, and Naia rode the Death Scooter and Luca rode his bike.

Naia was geeked about crossing the finish line first, so she gunned it the whole time.

Its most definitely fall around here.

Mondays lunch break ride included both the Llama and the GT.

I wanted to try the Llama with the Evolve 7s I had just put on.
I had been running CST 190x50s for a long time, and recently had put on 200x50 clever knobbies.

The knobbies made it too tall and sluggish…
So down in size we went instead.

It was really good with the 7s.
The power delivery is feeling great.
I got to 31.9 which is a big deal to me.

I cruised at 30 quite a bit, and had a couple instances I felt a smidge wobbly.

The ride on the Llama was only 3 miles because I went to meet my onewheel buddy Daniel that came over to help me tune my board.

It’s kinda of funny that I have set so many esk8s on a Vesc, but in all reality I’m super basic when it comes to the Vesc hole

And the onewheel shit is beyond bewildering to me.

But he is into it. And gets it. And got my board feeling good and feeling fast.

I hit 23 on the GTVX and was seeing 21-22 which is really fast for me on a Onewheel.

Something new and exciting happened on the ride.
Daniel took me to a spot these Coral mushrooms are growing and I picked my first mushroom to eat ever!!!

So glad that these toys get me out there everyday!!!

It’s Tuesday October 22. And today I rode electric skateboards!!!

The ride of choice for today’s lunch break was the Flux.

I planned on going across town and was fully geared up and was feeling fast!!!

I found myself cruising at 30 a lot and actually hit 33!!!

I did start hitting motor temps of 80c after only 4 miles.
That seemed to take a bit of the punch out of take offs.
But besides that the ride felt fabulous.

I was feeling really comfortable on the Dualitys at 30.

In fact today I decided they take the top spot on the podium over the 3 Links.

The Dualitys are so special. They just do it all.

It was a 20 mile ride which is big time these days.

After work I went to the skatepark with the boys.
But I forgot my helmet and my jacket… So I took it really easy.

Yesterday was more of a mono wheeling day.

I took the EUC to the corner market.

Got to see a pretty snake on my way back.

The corner market is a little Natural Grocery store and I have been going to it more and more, and it’s always fun to take a PEV.

I did get on the Gravel Flux for school pickup, but it was a fairly uneventful ride as far as all that goes.

In the evening I had to drop my daughter off at gymnastics, and watch the boys, so I took them to a playground and rode the GTVX around.

I ended up riding 6.3 miles around there!!!

On Thursday October 24th 4 wheels prevailed.

It started as a normal school pickup up run on the Gravel Flux.

But the boys wanted to stay and play on the playground.

So I rolled around on the school grounds, exploring the woods.

I also have a lot of fun on the grass embankments.

They are steeper than they look, and it’s fun ride them.

School pickup up is normally 3 miles round trip, and I did an extra 4 miles of playing for a total of 7 miles!

On Friday Esk8 prevailed again.

And once again it was the Gravel Flux that shinned!!!

This was a late lunch break ride, and it had rained the night before.

So the roads are a bit wet and tails will be covered in wet leaves.

The Gravel Flux was the board to take!

I have not gone through here on an Esk8 in a long time.

This board does great with the 9 inch mud pluggers.

This section is single track windy walking trails… And it’s hard to do fast on esk8. It’s a great trail for Onewheels…

But it is super pretty out there, and I cruised slow and enjoyed the view and the throttle.

I have gone through here more recently on the EUC, and the Onewheel. It’s such a different vibe on Esk8. Mostly I have to go slower, because it’s so windy. But sometimes I can open up the throttle and do little jolts of speed, and that feels amazing in the woods. I dig sloshing around on the leaves too.

The woods was a short portion, and then in was off to the gravel trails, which is what this board was made for pretty much.

Life is good!!!

I can’t say that I do it right everyday…

I didn’t really ride today…

Feels kinda wrong.
It is a Saturday.
It was cool, but sunny.

A prime riding day.

But the energy wasn’t right, and i just didn’t really get out of the house.

I rode the GT up front a little bit when the kids were in the neighbors yard.
But that was more to avoid walking.

I rode the EUC half way up the block a few times…

And a buddy stopped by on his ebike so I rode up the block with him on the Death Scooter.
