My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Today’s unexpected turn of events is that I decided to work on a battery at 10:30…

I finished up my little 12S2P P42A brick pack.

The balance wires at the end are a hot mess, but they are well protected and won’t be moving around, or get impacted.

I did run into a weird annoying thing with the BMS.

The UART connector on the BMS is not the normal type and the Blue won’t plug in…

So in need to figure out what this connector is called.

Sunday funday.

This one I can say I did it right!!!

I found the Bluetooth dongle to go with my BMS…:man_facepalming:

Tiny packs. 12S1P and 12S2P

The 2P is a great fit in the Death Scooter

Single Focbox doing work in 2024 baby!!!

Ha. I have four of those things running!!!

Including on the DINGHY!!!

It’s back baby.
It’s back!

It gets the 12S1P. And it gets the Akashas.
(The Hosoi is down at the moment with no battery…)

Look at how cute this thing is!

This is not an ideal pack construction… So we have to mind the gap.

But guess what, we can make it work out thanks to the magic of Butyl tape!!! (Thanks yet again @b264, best tip ever)

Look at this tiny death trap. It’s amazing.

So stoked to be rolling on it again.

Not bad right. Some good tinkering out of the way.

The really good part about Sunday Funday is that I took the kids out on an epic family ride.

(I had to ride on 2 wheels, which is not my fave, but it worked out)

We rolled over to campus for them to do some hardcore parkour!

I led in the front on the Portola with Max on the back. Luca rode in the middle and Naia was in the rear.

They held formation really well and did such a good job riding and paying attention.

We rolled into downtown and got some Sparky’s ice cream.

And then it was back to campus for more climbing around.

Hoping from spot to spot with them was so cool.

Definitely a great way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon.

We were gone for a few hours, and rode 6.8 miles.

The 12S1P on Lucas bike got to 46.9…
The 12S2P on the Death Scooter got to 45.8

So these tiny packs totally work for moving these little kids!

It’s the last Monday of October.

It is still super warm out.

In the afternoon I had the usual school pickup up on the gravel Flux.

In the evening I had to drop my daughter at gymnastics, and I took the boys to the nearby playground.

The Rayne Crush came out to play!!!

This is really so close to an analog longboard, and it was so dreamy to cruise on these smooth sidewalks.

This here surprised me a bit.

And you know… There has got to be an issue here and there, so the left hub is clicking up a storm…

I need to go see what can be done about that.
Maybe @Venom121212 can just tell me what to do.

I did not have a full charge on the little 12S1P so I only got to cruise around on the Crush for about 3 miles.
But it was really a good time.

I love these skateboard like esk8s!!!

There was still light in the sky and I rode on the GT for a while.

There is a tiny skatepark next to this playground.

So all in all, I got to parent, pass the time, ride, and have a bunch of fun.
Pretty good for Monday evening.

Tuesday there was a lot going on.

We started with some tinkering in the morning…

You may have seen me on the Dinghy the other day.
But I could not connect to the Focbox via Bluetooth.

So I had to open it up and hard wire it.
I flashed new firmware and all was good.
It was really dumb not to check that the other day before closing up the enclosure.

I am using strictly butyl for the gasket.

This thing is really tiny.

The butyl gasket looks pretty decent to me.

It’s 12.2 lbs 5.53 kg.

Obviously the lunch break ride had to be the maiden voyage of the new Dinghy Revival.

Did I mention it’s tiny!!!

It is so great to take into a place…

I really love coffee.

And we made it back home and it was a whooping 7 miles.

The last two miles were painful with sag, but you know.
It still got me home. With some juice left.

I would definitely say it would be good for a solid fun 5 miles.

As I’m sitting here, I’m thinking it would be nice to put a 6374 on here…
I expect it would get a bit of less whining from the single motor.

Off course, since I used a Butyl gasket I should just never open this again.

School pickup was not quite uneventful.

I picked up a stick.
Which is something I seem to be doing a lot these days.

A bit after that I ended up getting the Death Scooter out of the Garage, and flew up and down the block on it.

It gets me to 20 and holds it there… So scary to me.

Hopefully not a cracked magnet or bad bearing. Can you feel by hand when it clicks over?

No.
It feels fine spinning by hand.
It doesn’t seem like a magnet or bearing.

I thought the sleeve fit may make some noise.
Maybe I’ll slap some red and tacky in there!!!

Let me know if you figure it out, one of my hubs also clicks, it doesn’t feel like a bearing or magnet though… but I didn’t have the time to take it apart yet.

Also at some fairly high duty cycle (feels like duty and not rpm related) I get loud coil whine from them and feels like limited top speed which I don’t think was there before I did a hill climb on them :grimacing: but strangely it feels like the speed it does this depends on charge level?

Ha.
Don’t you love the mystery noises.

I just got a new one on the Flux.

When I get close to 30 Mph, which is not often, the left motor started really screaming!!!
