Not yet, have one here to do, I haven’t actually tackled it yet.
My current plan is to just update the controller, and BMS, and keep lights running.
So I intend to use the stock pack, assuming it will still be balanced when I check it.
So I am going:
Lil Foccer 3.1 with Power Button.
Zesc - buck converter
To run the Avaspark LIght module with the stock lights.
Avaspark mounting plate.
Avaspark footpad connector.
Avaspark battery break out board to go with
Fungineers BMS.
And I will probably undo the GT motor connector, since I can’t buy an adapter … And don’t want to harvest from the stock controller.
Lots to do, and figure out.
Waiting on Zesc and Avaspark parts to show up to really dig in.
I have not seen a thread anywhere with someone taking on a GT …
If you happen to have seen one, please share.
Ooh that makes me happy.
Steve Schoonmaker / Magic PEVs has done some, he has some insight that may be useful. You can find him in the VESC OW FB group, he posts stuff there. Might have information for you.
Thanks.
I have seen Steve’s activity and have actually messaged him a bit.
Ok.
Where was I?
Looks like over a week since I talked about riding…
Let’s try to catch up.
But first. I now think handles are cool.
I have gone a long time not bothering with them.
I generally try not to add extra stuff if I can avoid it.
Handles were like that.
I did not love the look .
Didn’t like extra shit to deal with…
Yada, yada, yada.
Kinda randomly I got a little bull bar for the Gravel Boi.
It’s not a perfect fit, not super elegant.
I don’t like the look…
But picking up the board to roll around is way, way better now .
It was less of an issue without the handle with the NewBee drives.
But adding the Radium mounts, they scraped if I try to roll the board holding to the front trucks.
So the silly little handle bar extension was cheap, and easy to slap on. And it really makes it nicer to pick up…
The Demonseed with the Idea TB mounts was also a problem holding by the front truck.
I did a random search online, and saw a Maxfind handle I like the look of.
This is a nice design and pretty low profile, and really functional for this board.
Finally I ordered a Backfire handle for the Gravel Flux, since I move that board almost every day.
I actually wanted to run it upside down, but it was too close to the trucks.
I don’t like the look of it sticking up…
I worry I could trip on it.
But it’s super functional for moving the board around.
But I am not putting something like this on the Flux… It needs to be something more elegant.
I wish there was something like the Etoxx one for Matrix III.
That dude makes such sexy stuff…
But anyways…
I have handles on these now…
I don’t love the look.
But I love the functionality.
The magic of esk8 made me excited about going to the dentist.
This time on the Gravel Boi.
I meandered quite a bit on the way back…
Slipping and sliding on leaf filled trails…
The kids appreciate the handle on the Gravel Flux.
I appreciate the Gravel Flux to play around with when I take them to the playground.
I had gone out on the Flux…
And ended up meeting up with my Onewheel buddy Drew.
He has a sweet park by his house, so I tried to play some off roaring with the Flux.
Which it mostly did great.
As different as these board are, we still had a blast riding together.
I did a bit of tinkering on the Mega Money Pit.
Slapping on my 6th set of footpads on the GT…
Hopefully these are the sauce.
Twinning.
Part of me can’t believe I spent a bunch of money to make the freaking boat of the GT even bigger and heavier.
But the comfort of these huge pads is amazing.
It reminds me of the Flux deck…
I had to drop off the mini van at the mechanic.
The ride home of choice was the Demonseed.
It’s not a giant monster, and it has tires…
Unfortunately I had a flat…
Fortunately I was able to ride the 4 miles home on the flat Meepo tire.
I really like those tires so far…
I have been on a couple good Onewheel outings with my buddy Drew.
I have only been golfing once… Don’t spend any time in golf courses… But that shit sure is magical for Onewheeling…
I got out yesterday for a sweet winter solstice ride on the Gravel Flux.
Right now I’m sitting here waiting anxiously for the UPS man to show up.
Welp. Look at that. I has been a whole month since I posted here…
And there has been quite a lot of excitement, so let’s try to catch up.
We can just dive into the Llama Link - A True Christmas Miracle.
In 2023 it became quite obvious to me I had gone overboard with the Esk8 thing…
You don’t really need 10 different set ups.
And it really got to be more work than fun sometimes…
We all know these things break a ton, and keeping them going can be a ton of work, and super expensive.
And sometimes you may feel silly if you have 10 running boards, but get bummed out about the one that just broke.
My point, is that I really didn’t need to build this, I should not have built this, but somehow it happened still.
Obviously in 2023 everyone was freaking out about 3 Links, and how amazing they are.
This caused pretty extreme FOMO.
I fought it as long as I could. The trucks on their own are expensive, and probably why I held off for so long. I should have just bought a front truck, and a rear truck separately and I would have done this a long time ago,
So, I really was dreaming of a 3 links build for a long time.
For quite sometime now the V5 has been at the top of the list of things I would buy if I won the lotto.
Then Moe came out with the Super Spine which I think is the sexiest thing in the world now.
I used all of my sense not ordering a Super Spine on the Black Friday deal.
That 999 was an incredible value, and I super wanted one. But I also needed to not build any more Esk8s…
So how did we end up here…
Welp. It was early in the Morning on December 6th, and before I even had coffee I was scrolling Instagram, and saw someone post 3 Links for sale, and it was on Ebay, and it was a good deal, so I Immediately ordered them.
No sense, no responsibility, just could not pass up the deal.
I was finally getting 3 links.
And I was not going to be that bad, expense wise, because I was just going to use stuff I already had around.
I have had this Llama deck sitting in the basement for a long time, and had even pondered selling it.
The Drivetrain was stolen from the Khymera, that was waiting for a battery to be rebuild.
So. really, I was just going get some trucks, on a deal, and I had all the other stuff.
And so it goes…
I was pretty excited about building something new and trying out these trucks.
And then major heart break…
The ones from Ebay arrive, and they were not the HD ones…
The deal was in fact too good to be true.
Honest mistake on the sellers part, and he approved the return, and I got a refund.
But now the excitement for the build had taken over, so I had to order a new set from Moe.
So let’s try this again.
It is December 22nd, and these beautiful shinny parts show up.
There was a lot of excitement just to try and mock up the deck, truck, and wheels, since I really didn’t know if it would all go together.
but right off the bat, I knew I needed an extension in the front, and I had already gotten one of the Mboards one from @AlexB
getting to this point here, was nerve wrecking, and exciting.
I am a pretty basic dude, and normally like for things to be simple and straight forward, and these trucks are not that.
There is a lot, I mean a lot, going on with these trucks.
One thing I decided to do right away as to try to lower the height of the Heim.
So I started drilling the deck.
measuring is hard, so I drilled the wrong spot in the back…
I also tried to mount the trucks on the back backwards…
So that was funny.
yep. this here.
backwards,
I had to take out the Circlip on the SKP/Reacher Motors to get them to work with these mounts.
I took off the wire braid I had on the motor cables, and put on Tesa tape to flatten out the cable, and provide more protection, in case the motor cans got close.
This is the indestructible Tesa, not the fuzzy Tesa.
There were breaks from building and a bit of riding despite winter.
The Gravel Flux/Tow Truck set up has been so good to me.
Back to tinkering we go.
Remember how I had mentioned all I needed for the Llama Link was trucks…
Oh the lies we tell ourselves.
Somehow in the frenzy of the excitement of planning the build I thought, it may take me forever to build this battery(I have all the parts here)
And then @AlexB freaking basically offers to give me this 12S8P SKP pack. (it was such a good deal, I would have been irresponsible to say no)
Off course, that beautiful giant pack would not fit in the Old Flux enclosure I had, or the Khymera enclosure I had originally planned to use.
But it did fit the @tomiboi enclosure it was made for beautifully, which got made and shipped out to me just in time to make this a Christmas Miracle.
bigger is better right
So it is Sunday, December 24th, and I had all the parts I needed.
No bolts for me…
this relic made it on to the bench.
because I decided I needed an extension bracket in the back as well.
Many sets of inserts on this deck…
This was a lovely fit, so stocked when stuff is meat to work together.
The board was not quite together for this shot.
I actually got back to tinkering on Christmas day.
and just slathered Kapton everywhere.
needed a hand to connect the motor cables
And there it was.
