My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Welp…
Amazon sent me 1 not 2 motors… So the Flux waits…

Stoked.
I made my street view!!!

We took the kids for a hike at the park where the skatepark is, and I walked by the there and got inspired to go skate it.

We went back home, and I loaded the van and snuck back out.

I started off on the ATV Ditch Life. To warm up.

Trying to ride my analog set up was awful… Even with the big wheels it hardly rolls and the bushings set up I have is not good… So it was a short lived experiment…

The DKP set up was pretty fun to roll around.
Those trucks do funny things when you are transitioning on different plains…
I could not get the groove of the transition with the big board.

I rolled around on the Onewheel a little bit.
That was ok… I did not try a whole bunch.

Finally I got the Dinghy out.
That was aslo short lived because it was extra scary on transition.

After trying everything I got the ATV Ditch Life back out.

Only one kid asked me to try a board, which I let him for a bit, and he didn’t fall so that was good.

I used to pump around the park, and I got to emulate that today.
It was really cool.
It was really sketchy at times.
I can’t believe how scared I was of dropping in…

I didn’t actually roll into any quarter pipes. But if I can get that back I think I can have a ton more fun.

I’ll be coming back to do this more.

I got pretty geeked about the skatepark thing!

So much so, that I decided to make a skatepark specific build, mostly with parts I have around.

I took the DH Akashas off the Rally Cat

And broke my other ATV Ditch Life deck out of the basement.

Back truck is a BN 145 I had on the Black ATV last.
But I’ll use different motor and ESC.

This is such a good idea both boys decided to help me!!!

Up front it’s Caliber II 150S I think.

I am shaving some weight off by using a 12S1P P45B, instead of the 10S2P 40T.

So 8 cells less.

I’m going to use a Focbox, and I am getting a new Flipsky 6354 190kv motor. And the Z-mote from the Rally Cat.

The DH Akashas are a good bit smaller than the Kegels. Forever grateful @Razillian

Which also lets me take risers off.

So, excited.
Batteries are ordered.
I wonder how long before it actually comes to life.

Today I decided to slap the Akashas on the current ATV.

Took a few extra minutes to grind down the rough edges of the pulleys…

And I also knocked the 1/4 inch risers out.

And back to the Skatepark I went.

I skated for about 1:15 and Relive tracked 7 miles.

I seriously had so much fun!!!

Today was less sketchy than yesterday for sure.

Dropping in was less horrifying and I hit some transitions I had not hit yesterday.
I had only one fall, and not from trying stuff, but from going fakie and hitting a stick.

I am really super pumped about this, and hope I make it back there tomorrow.

Electric skateboards are magical.

Been riding and been tinkering.

Yesterday’s lunch break ride was the Patton on the trails.

It’s amazing how much the vista changes with most of the leaves gone…

I got home to find a Lil Foccer in the mail.
The first part towards Vescing the GT.
Which is something that has to happen…
If anything for added safety.
Lots to figure out here still.

I did a bit of an extended school pick up. And after dropping off the Gravel Flux I took the Gravel Boi around the neighborhood.
Riding it after the Riptides on the Gravel Boi made me want to make the front looser. So I think I am going to try the White bushings in the center position instead of orange.

After work I went to the skatepark for the third day in a row. This time with the little dude.

I only got one lap around on the ATV, and the motor pulley came loose…

It was the first time I bought the little dude here. It was so cool. He wanted to stay, and rolled around til after dark.

I rolled around on my analog set up. Which is soooo hard to do. Seriously… Fuck pushing…
I can’t wait to get back there with a motor.

So later that evening I fixed it with a shinny new steel pulley with a key…

Oh.
Also the replacement Flipsky Motor showed up.

And the last bit I did for the night was putting the motor plates/pinions on.
I didn’t want to get into soldering last night…

So we are gonna call that a pretty active day.

This morning I had some lead fumes for breakfast.

The Flipsky Motors got 5mm bullets, which are a legacy from when the Flux had TB 6380 motors.

I was not entirely sure what I wanted to go ride at lunch time.

But one of the EUC kids hit me up, and we went riding on the trails…

Which is cool, because it’s super pretty out there.

I had planned on going back to the skatepark. But I had to work a little late. And the sun sets at 5… So that got skipped today.

Later in the evening I got back to the Flux.

I have been in this box so many times, I get weird dejavu working in there…

I fired it up, and it came up sensored!!! Hooray.

Then 3ft of Kapton later…

I was so close to home. Just bolt the motors to the drives and the enclosure to the deck and I was gonna go for a ride!!!

But… One of the drives had heavy resistance when I tightened the 4 bolts that hold the motor plate.

One side was fine…
One side had me stumped.

But seems the pinion was rubbing on the housing.

This was one of those DYI is a disease moments…

So bummed.

Anyhow, after that it was Dremel o’clock.

And that seemed to do the trick to eliminate the resistance.

I really hope these drives run beautifully tomorrow.
But part of me is already thinking I might need to get another set of Radium motor mounts!!!

Yesterday was awesome.

It has been pretty magical weather here for November, and we even got to 70 yesterday.

I did a morning warm up run on the GT.
Which is a great way to catch some sunshine.

Then at lunch break I went on the Mayden Voyage of the latest iteration of the Flux with the new Flipsky Motors.

And it’s nice to have a quiet set up again.
The old motors were annoying me so freaking much.

But this ride was glorious and just pure enjoyment.

So much so, that I rode 21.4 miles, which I believe is the longest single ride since I had my neck problems in the spring.

I love this set up!!!

And after work I took the little dude to the skatepark again.

The ATV was back in action and I rode it around a good bit.

I also took the surfkate… Which is kinda fun… But so much work…

The little dude really got around well on his balance bike.

On the way home we stopped by the skateahop to say hi. And skated around the back for a minute.
And to my surprise I got excited and even ended up doing some ollies, which amazes me…

Stoked!!!

Much riding.
And a dash of tinkering!!!

Thursday for lunch break I took the Demonseed to my new favorite trails.

It’s a super fun board for me to ride in this type of setting.
And I continue to be pleased with how well it gets around.

Pretty much every day I took the little dude to the skatepark after work.

He is obsessed.
I’m obsessed.
It’s awesome.

Friday’s lunch break was back at the skatepark.

And after work we went back.

These are the last nice days, so we are out here getting all we warm sunshine we could.

@City-Blade-101 I’m an really proud of this one!!!

We swung by the skateshop after the park, and I was too tired to try to skate more so I tooled around on the Pint.

Saturday we went back to the skatepark.

But it was kind of short lived…

I let a buddy try the board.
And I cannot seem to emphasize enough to anyone how touchy the throttle is, so he launched the board straight into the grind box.

I didn’t think it was that hard of a hit, and told him to keep riding.
And the board kept running.

I glanced at it, and saw something slightly off, and realized the enclosure had blown out…

Apparently I didn’t use quite enough gorilla tape on this one…

So then mandatory tinkering had to take place.
I knew I could get this little guy running again fast.

Plastic binder and Tesa tape were the bandaids of choice.

This little printed box has been great.

I hit it with some truck bed liner.

I love that stuff. But sometimes I screw it up. And and this was one of those times…

Oh well, it can’t possibly be very long before I break this board again…

I taped the battery down to the deck a whole lot…
And used Butyl Tape as a gasket/cement for the enclosure.

I didn’t take the battery apart. But it looks good.
Still charges to 41.7.
So I just taped it up.
Taped it down.

Back in action in record time.

Oh. I also sanded the deck down to make the nose look less jacked.

And off course. We went back to the skatepark!!!

There is also an RC park to take the little dude to, and it also happens to be an awesome place to ride the Pint .

Onewheels are so cool for parenting.

On other exciting news…

I finally jumped on the 3D printer bandwagon.
I got an Ender V3 SE.
I wanted to Bambu P1S.
But the 200 bucks for the Ender was a lot easier to swallow.

I basically got it to make these shims for my new fancy fender for the GT.
And it worked for that!!!
So I need to figure out other cool stuff to print.

Stoked on how the GT is looking.

There is some stuff to do. And it’s all easy to get to.
And mostly empty.
So it’s really up my speed these days!!!
