My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

It’s been a couple days, and I still can’t believe I fell off the trail…

Wow.

Yesterday I took my shinny new tire off the Onewheel…

The slick tire was a poor purchase decision on my part…
I ended up ordering the new Future Motion performance threaded tire to try on here…

It’s been rainy here which is different.
But I did get out for a ride on the Gravel Boi after work yesterday!!!

Kids.
Did I mention I fell off the trail…

So gnarly.

Boom.
Out of nowhere it got cold…

We had it good for a while.

It was below freezing this morning.
And it was about 36F, 2C for school pick up.

The first cold ride hits so hard.
It pretty much sucked the entire 2.5 miles…

I will definitely thoughen up as winter goes on.
But that first one sure does suck…

We had a successful Halloween!!!

Despite it being cold…
Right at freezing.

We had a decent trick or treating outing in the neighborhood.
The kids ran/walked several blocks, before dropping one by one

I managed to keep the legend of Banana Man alive another year.

I rolled around on the GT, until the boys started getting tired and I went and grabbed the trailer with the Gravel Flux and cruised around with the boys, and then the Girl and her friend.

Ended up riding 10 miles.

The neighborhood kids get pretty stoked.

And back on the bench is the GT.

Time for this Enduro to come off again.
It’s awful lumpy these days.

The new tire from FM is out for delivery.
So off we go.

The good thing is I have gotten pretty good at taking these tires off.
Well. The Enduro anyways…

Got new bumpers showing up too.

The FM tire showed up and went on easily.
The bead actually set easier than the Enduro…
At like 8 and 9 PSI.

So here is the new iteration.

Im super happy with the look.

I took it out for a mayden voyage.
At about 13PSI

It felt really good on the road. Out of the gate impression was very pleasant.
Which was not the case on the Street Pro 2.

Once I got to the park I let a bit of air out.

I was also quite happy about how it felt on the trail.

I only rode 6.6 miles because I started off at 70% and it was cold. But it was a good taste, and a nice ride.

Today was a good riding day.

It was quite a bit nicer after a cold snap.

I went out on the Flux for a 13 mile lunch break ride and met up with Benji.

Clocked the daily 3miler for school pick up.

After work I was supposed to go pick up the groceries, and I decided to ride for that.

I had done several small store runs just with a backpack.
But never a full run.
In part because I don’t know about parking the board and trailer outside while shopping…

But today was just a pick up, so I rolled up on the Gravel Flux.

I fucking forgot my helmet…
Now that it is cold and I have to wear a stocking cap or something, I feel that on my head, and leave thinking I have my helmet on…
Shit bums me out.

The dude from Aldi was pretty amused.
And we got all the groceries crammed in.

The grocery run was 4.8 miles,.and was a pretty sweet ride. I expect to be doing that again!!!

And after all that I still needed to get my trail fix.
So I rolled down to the park to ride with my buddy Drew.

I hit a root and the board rolled from under me and I managed to just kinda walk it off.
I was surprised to be upright.
I usually get dropped by stuff like that.

I did have a fall just a few minutes later getting bucked by rocks and roots and dancing on the board, eventually getting dropped…
But it was a good fall. No harm done. (Hooray for butt pads.

Oh.
Speaking of falls, we rolled by the spot where I fell off the trail.

I had not rolled back by.
It’s so fucking crazy looking at it from the top.
It’s a good 10 feet down to the water.
Drew is standing about where I fell and hit the wall which is about 6ft down.
Sharp sticks everywhere.

I got so lucky dude.
Got off so easy for how crazy of a fall that was.

A buddy asked me if I fall through the most on the Onewheels, and it’s a really good question.
It may be…

Either way, the trail ride was awesome. It was a gorgeous afternoon.
It’s getting dark early, and it’s getting brown out there.

But we have a bunch of nice days ahead and I am hoping to ride a bunch.

Here is the DIY is a disease part of the day.

It was an awesome day.
Great rides.

But do you kids ever get consumed by the shit you may need to do to your boards.

It’s like this undying chase for something else…

I love the Flux.
It’s riding great.
Feels amazing.

I have a nag- the motors are loud sometimes…
It’s not that bad.
They run well.
The board runs well.

I’m still annoyed every time…
Takes away from the joy of riding.

But I question can I ever really just find that joy and not be thinking of other shit to do, or parts to shuffle.

Getting new motors would be expensive.
I’d have to take apart the NewBee drives that are working well.
I am sure I would fuck them up on reassembling…
End up having to buy new drives…
So I really don’t want new motors.
But I want new motors…

The Gravel Flux is such a good trusty set up.
But I do need to put some new tires on there.
Easy breezy.
But still something that nags me when I went riding…

And finally the GT.
New rails, new tire, new tire again…
Feeling great now.

Could totally use more better climbing.

While riding with Drew his 15S Vesced XR can do anything… he rolled up a section of steep trail quick like, and I am back here, crawling up on the GT.
Dragging my nose.

So I really would like to Vesc my GT now…

I wonder what I would want to do to it after that…

Never ends does it…

Today got off to a good start.

This neighbor kid came over to grab a board a set up for him.

Just an analog long board, to give life to parts sitting on the shelf.

Came out really sweet, with the Lovechild Deck, Paris Clones and Blue Caguamas.

But in order to enjoy thane, we have to get to a decent road.

So this is how I rolled out.

At least it’s only a block or so away for me to get to the island of black top we have left in the neighborhood.

He was into the board.

While we were riding he saw another neighbor on an electric skateboard, and I chased him down.

So I got to try his Amazon board with the airless wheels, which I had never tried before.
They seem to work.

I rolled around on the Rayne Crush, and had the best time with my hubs…

That board came out so sweet, for the purpose of carving on good roads.

It was sweet.

I got some more action today.

I rolled down to the corner market on the EUC.
Made it a 4.3 mile ride.
I went a bunch of days without riding the EUC after falling off the trail, and when I rode it to PT yesterday I felt pretty detached…
I kinda need to hop on that thing every day to keep a good connection.
Weird beast…
Got some fun reactions from people at the store.

A bit later I got out on the Gravel Boi.
It’s pretty warm out, but it actually sprinkled some.
So the all weather board was the choice.

I wanted to go ride it on the trails earlier anyways.

I headed to the new section of trail on the bluff that I have been pumped about.

I found this area on the EUC.
And have brought the GT over.
And finally got up there on ESK8.

The EUC gets around the best… There are a bunch of roots around, and one section with a good ascent.
The Onewheel was super fun, but the climb is so sluggish and painful… Made me wanna Vesc her.
Gotta watch more for the roots.
But it was quite enjoyable to ride there.

The Gravel Boi was fun to ride there because it’s a whole different thing having a throttle…
You can throw the board around, and I really have fun with little bursts of acceleration.

I need to get up here with the Gravel Flux with the 9 inch tires… That takes the roots way better than the 8s…

Once again I found myself wanting a legit off road DKP set up.
There are a couple switch backs I could not make on the Gravel Boi…
Which was a bit of a bummer.
But I was stoked to get up there on the EMTB and do my tiny little drifts on the leaves!!!

Ended up doing 11 miles, and I thought I was Way more because I tired out from the trails.

Breakfast of champions.

11 miles on the Flux.

Definitely El Favorito!

Kinda of a big riding day.

Lunch break ride was on the EUC.

The EUC kids came over and we rolled down to the park down the road.

Once we got to the park I got pretty frisky and did probably the fastest riding on dirt I have done on the EUC.
I was feeling it. 14.3 miles!

Had the usual 3 miler for school pick up.

And then I had a dentist appointment.
I took the Flux.
And I was cutting it close on time, so I really booked it too.
Made it to the door in 21 minutes, to be exactly on time.

But the best part was the leisure ride home.
Ended up doing 15 miles.

It’s been a pretty good week for riding.

Most days have been super nice, and yesterday was actually hot…

I have been sprinkling rides for fun and for errands.

And another one bites the dust…

The reaper came for the Rallycat.

This was a 12S3P 30Q pack.
The very first one I ever made.
I wonder how long ago that was.

Bums me out… I had just cleaned it up not too long ago.

Part of me wants to just make a 12S2P pack to slap back in there, since it is a cool set up.

But this was so close to the Omakase, and I like the Omakase a bit better.

And off course I can’t just roll out my door and rode these thane boards anymore…

So reviving it is not so exciting…

I have also dreamed of getting a Loaded Ballona, and putting this enclosure and wheels on it … but that would be a single drive…
Still requires me building a battery.
But since it would be something new it gets me a little bit more excited.

I still would not be able to go ride it up the road…

So I don’t know what I’ll do.
There is other stuff going on first.

I have 3 other set ups I should probably also take down…

They have Chinese made batteries, I can’t check the health of…

The little yellow guy is a Wowgo 2S drive train.
From 6 years ago…

And the 2 littles…

The Dinghy and the ATV Ditch Life,
Both have Meepo ER batteries which are 10S2P 40T.
They are from 4 years ago…

I am conflicted about taking those boards down…
If I do. I may actually be down to a reasonable number of esk8s…

It’s time for the loud Boardnamics/Flipsky 6384s to come out…

It keeps bumming me out more and more on each ride.

I’m getting new Flipsky Motors from Amazon, and sending these bad ones back…

The big question is?!?

Will I fuck up my NewBee drives in the process of changing motors?

Maybe… But I still need to try.

Well. Cool.
For the most part disassembly went smoothly.
