Motor discussion: the best and worst of it all

None of the above. Sorry to disappoint.

Fuck these, sealed maytech 6374

I don’t think Flipsky motors sensors have a temp sensor.

Aw. Ok. For as bad as it sounds I was kinda hoping for that answer

Ty brother

Say what!? Those things are solid. Never had a single issue with them

@CiscoV
Second fucked up with same issue.

Maybe this will help.

The sealed Maytech 6374 for me, the bell always ends up slipping on the axle.

Haha. Idk what to say. @Komamtb you must’ve banged that thing very hard to break those magnets like that. I mean. No matter what brand motor you have If you hit something hard enough is going to break

The way I see it battle hardening your motors is just cheap insurance to keep you from accidental motor lockup while riding. Magnets are brittle and will break if impact is hard enough :man_shrugging:t2:

These things brake like ice. I’m not even that hard of a rider.

i also cut sensor wires. they always in the way and always come too short . i got tired of making extensions for them.

For me, motor phase wires seem to be chronically just almost long enough. But never, not once ever, actually long enough to not need to add any more wire. Which means unnecessary inline solder connections.

Hey gents !

I hope I’m in the right section.
Long story short,
I order Flipsky motor in summer 2018 to use on my DarthVapor MTB setup.
It wasn’t easy, I ask some customs/modifications and they always “yes we can”, “of course”, “no problem”, “this is ok”, “easy” etc. etc. during a long time.
Once I have paid, hahahahahah you see it coming ?! They can’t do half that I have requested… Ok … I take a breath and I accept being fooled. I need >160kV motors asap anyway… so let’s see (the price is reasonable for customs motors anyway).

Then after the 1st little cruise around the block, I got some unknown sound coming …
2nd cruise after checking all screw etc. it even worst.
magnet lose already, just by a cruise on road with 200mm pneumies …! ARG.
if you want to enjoy engine sound in turbo mode :

My build log here if you need/want details :

I got a lot of trouble trying to get me a replacement part … they ingore me, then told me they never sold 150kV one etc.
They want me to pay the replacement. But the motors are brand new, and finally, after weeks of hard dealing, they accept if I pay the shipping… ok, almost fooled me again - 2nd time.

About the replacement - strangely are not the same rotors. But they are aesthetically identical to TorqueBoard one … weird.

Then I decide to never reuse them - even if they’re like brand new - or buy Flipsky stuff again !
Thinking about reselling them as ready to DIY/battlehardened one.

A year later, so now :
I decide to take these motors laying around for a year or so : FlipSky 6380 150kV for a quick build with stuff who sleep in boxes and collect dust…

Yeah, you see it coming again, and before myself ^^ 3rd time fooled (yes I’m an asshole)
I should have tested the replacing rotors just after received them !!!..

This is the issues I got :

The new rotor falls all the way into the stator !.. But completely !!
no space to allow the rotor to … rotate !..

What can I do now ?
Feel so scammed here, I can’t let this go like that. If I would want to resell them because, well, they’re new, like under 20kms of use … and Rotors are really brand new.

  • Is there a way to mod this ?
  • How can I separate the parts without damaging/scratching them ? If I can resell them if they work again that will be cool.
  • I guess Flipsky will just once again they will just laugh at me or just ignore my request like they usually do.

Looks like it possibly needed to have a spacer-washer which they forgot to put on the back side of the shaft, where it attaches to the bell.
If you bolt the motor onto a spare mount, and push the shaft against a hard surface, does the can move back from the stator front plate a bit to get the necessary gap? Or does the front circlip/washer prevent that?

@Riako We actually try to improve the internal design of the motors when and if issues occur. Motors might look similar and have similar characteristics but they are a bit different. They also use much smaller stators if you compare the equivalent motor.

Maybe people are destroying their motor by battle gardening them and greatly unbalancing the rotor and it ends up wearing the axle n crashing stator into rotor. Can balance them w a laser pointer: mount it somewhere on the truck n get the spot on the wall stable when running motor by adding or subtracting material.

Ho, thx Tipsy, looks like it yes.

Hooo yeah ! thx again for the tips I don’t why I didn’t think about that to be able to separate them … I was printing an adaptor that will pull the stator from the back of the rotor … yeah complicated ! >,<’

Yes, unfortunately, there is just space for the circlips, don’t know if a whaser can fit with the circlips… but anyway … no space for little gap
Thx for your highlight!

Hey Dexter, yes, I hope you did not interpret the statements as if it were one of your rotors! :relaxed: It is definitely not. Just funny, back last year, to see that they have copy your back/end rotor design, like I say just the aesthetically.

Hi John, sorry I didn’t understand if your saying was for me/my issues or not ^^
But in case, just if you read my post again, I have just use them as I receive them. And they broke the 1st ride, and at the 2nd ride they was totaly unridable !
Also I didn’t mod them or battle hardening/gardenin  mine like you’re saying if I understand well.

But I can say they are definitely unbalanced!! No glue/epoxy or whatever to glue magnet (visible), and no material adding to balance them like my old rock solide 2017 Overion - photo for reference :

So I guess I’m fucked, with those spare parts that don’t match and don’t work with the faulty motors Flipsky sold me … And because it is around 1 yr old story they will just ignore me and let me cry alone …
I feel like I’m such an asshole :see_no_evil: it annoys me to the highest point!

You will know a very dissatisfied and resentful Riko these next times … I apologize in advance, but it’s very bitter!

oops, that’s it I’m already so upset that I lose my logic !

If I do what you say @tipsy :

I should be able to get the desired gap right ?

As the circlips/washer will be will be further ? right ? … I haven’t my ideas clear right now ^^

Based on this thread I’m liking the TB6380s. What ESC do you run on them?

Are there any thin brass washers under the circlip?
