Hey guys, I’ve already been talking with Roman on email about my problem, but i figured i will try to ask for a help here as well.
I love my Metr Pro and I’m so lost without it being fully functional, lmao
Have been using it for about 5000km, but now it stopped wotking.
I can’t sing-in (this or another device), sync or do anything on Android. It sais: Status 0, Error: SSL handshake failed
What I have tried to fix my android app without any results:
completely factory reset my phone including all network settings and completely wiping the storage
reinstallation of the app
installing older version (from March 2021 which worked before normally)
connecting from another android device (works normally)
I still get the “Status 0, Error: SSL handshake failed” on Android.
The app records and saves records normally - logs: https://bit.ly/35g4ptP
On iPhone I get like 50 disconnects during ride and tons of errors, but I can sync-all and do everything normally.
TL:dr
Android has great BT connection, doesnt want to sync anything with metr servers.
Phone BT disconnects and gives tons of errors, can sync everything normally (but there is nothing to sync because of the disconnecting issues)
I’ve had about 5000km on my board, the enclosure was the first to go, then the battery. I just did a servicing on my BNM1 Drives after 1000km and they were full of metal shit from the gear bearing blowing out. The metr though? Been going strong the whole time. I feel like a metr will outlive any board I use it in.
I don’t drive, haven’t owned a fossil fuel engine ever in my life. For myself esk8 is my main method of transportation, which includes the daily work commute.
Rides for pure recreation are about 0.5% of my odometer
I have some progress on this issue. It most likely happened after server stack upgrade. Now the server does no longer support TLS1.0/1.1 and only supports TLS1.2/1.3
Android 7 has a bug which prevents it to work properly with default ciphersuites. I have an old test phone with Android 7 and I was able to see the same error you reported. I’ve read that Android 7.1 fixed that, is there a chance your device can get that upgrade?
My Backfire G2 “2017” has about 4000km on it, then i got the G2T → 2500km and while riding GT2 i have build my new board and have ridden about 5000km
Few things broke on the board mostly because they were cheap crap.
One thing i was sure that will destroy first was my 3D printed wheel pulleys. Those suckers are the only thing that did not broken down and are still working after so many km!
Yeah, I had to change like 50 belts, 20 tires, the whole deck, enclosure, motor pulleys, motors and idlers. But because i cheaped out on those components. The new replacements will hold for more than 10 000km, I am sure about that.
Everything for esk8 should be tested to not fail for at least 10 000km, that’s my opinion. 5k can be done in less than a year.
For sure it will! 0 moving parts, only water will kill it
Personally, I believe this isn’t necessary, but Everything in esk8 should be tested to failure, and have those numbers publicly available. I don’t care if a part breaks after 3000km, but I’d like to know that’s in it’s expected life range before I buy the part.
That’s pretty much impossible. There’s so much variety in how people ride their board that any test you make you would need to present with a YMMV disclaimer where the YMMV factor can easily be between 0.1x and 10x, which renders the data nearly useless. There’s on-road/off-road, dry-conditions/wet-conditions, regular/some/no maintenance, calm/aggressive riding style, rider weight… to name just a few parameters that highly affect the lifetime of most esk8 parts.
Any update on this? As it looks like Metr Pro doesn’t support Android 7 and earlier (so you should probably remove the support from the Playstore as it sais Android 6 or newer.)
For me I can’t find cheap Android right now, and iPhone app disconnects 100 times during ride. So unfortunatly the Metr v1.0 module that I have is unusable for iPhone 6s users and Android users with older than Android 7.1

I would like to buy either metr pro, metr pro can or metr pro unity with only pcb based antennas . Do you know when you will have any available and double checking that it is a minimum order of £135 yeah ? Would that include Shipping ?
