Meepo & Newbee cloning SRB trucks. Same company? (update: answer is no)

Yea 毛力 is Kerian’s Chinese name haha

from what i saw looks subjective. as in i never know how patents get delt with when things are close.
same kinda hanger radius rods. baseplate very different, with added functionality on the newbee.

hopefully some public pics come out soon and we can drop em in this thread.

Why weren’t 3-link trucks patented in the United States when Moe and the team first designed them?

Patent is not the way for things that exist as prior art (I think he used them in Esk8 first tho, so he probably could have still gotten one if he wanted) . Also patents are super expensive both to upkeep and defend. So he could have spent a bunch of money on a patent, and then people did this anyway

It’s moot anyway because the newbee trucks are so different

Not sure what you’re looking for here. I agree with you that the trucks look similar and that it should have been mentioned. I support secondary brands making the 3links, just hoping credit is given. Are you saying people should call similarities out or not?

I’m stoked for the newbee 3-links. I think more people iterating on 3-link designs is a good thing overall.

I’m guessing, classic small one man shop type mistake. waited too long before getting going on it. after a year of selling them it’s too late. also takes capital to get those things done as well. and to defend them.

Agreed on that. That will only help to push the sport further. I feel like newbee will give credit where its due in some way also.

Yes, patents are slightly expensive for smaller markets like Eska8, but even more expensive to defend. For a market like Eska8, a patent doesn’t really make sense $ wise. US patents mean nothing to the Chinese.

Imo, it will be hard to design without sacrificing some adjustability.
As fess said, looks like newbee still has a threaded rod, but has a square sleeve for drive interfacing.
So still relies on threading, just more of it.

I have. Not as significantly as with the thinner ones, but still enough to tweak the turning characteristics noticeably.

Yes, the brackets themselves are pretty strong, however if something impcts one of the screws sticking out there is a lever arm which can deform the brackets in even walking speed collisions.

I need to make some claims in here.

So First: I’m not meepo…i am just one dude i own newbeeesk8 .

Second: This is not a straight-up copy and i don’t want to rip off moe, I made it with my own ideas, compare to the SRB 3links. Also i don’t expect sell this much…the original goal is to see 3links concept would able to fit my own gear drive.

Differences:

Mine one don’t have the heim joint for through the mainaxle

Second…the way it adjust angle is different. Mine one is based on rotate the angle bracket beside SRB mouting the rods in different angles.

Just go 4wd and get some motors out front with crossbar. Happy days

I can respect that. Glad to hear it has a unique approach and you are consciously trying to show respect to SRB.

Edit. This is based on hearing from someone that newbee contacted Moe about these. If that’s not the case, which now it doesn’t seem to be, then it’s just lame.

thanks for chiming in and clarifying.

I assume if meepo makes trouble we’ll hear about it.

but @ARCTIC is suggesting they don’t make this kinda patent troll trouble.

so, thanks all that answers the questions I was curious about.
