They looked like those chinhong sunpower cells
No sorry I was rephrasing from memory so the ambiguity comes from me and not Kieran. Went back and checked and what he said was
āWe are still debating, we have time to decide whether to use the top notch Chinese brand cell, or the Samsung or Molicelā
No idea what this really means. However I believe @Evwan is right, based on this reddit post by Kieran a few weeks back:
damn that bms is big
LOLā¦absolutely zero data for those on the SunPower web site. Would love to get ahold of a couple to test.
best I can offer is an abused and waterdamaged backfire zealot battery with these cells
In all seriousness, iāve never seen these cells sold loose, however iād love to see these tested.
100a discharge bms so kinda makes sense
Still donāt understand why no bypass
Itās a production board thing to protect the cells better, idk
The legal liability would be huge if discharge protection was bypassed. They would get stomped in court for that if there was an accident.
āSo you could have added protection to prevent this tragedy but you decided not to to increase your profit margin?ā
The jury would crucify them.
So what was the updated esc most hurricane owners got? Besides thicker wires
How many cycles has it been through?
at least 50. The pack has clear signs of water damage, im bringing it to recycling asap anyways
Yea, not worth testing those cells.
Few point regarding Hurricane from me:
155mm tires - absolute garbage. The worst, cheapest, chinese trash I have ever ridden. at first I though that I might be just unlucky when my tires kept blowing up, then I look inside it and I could see threading of the tire rubbing against inner tube causing it to pop. There is thread on reddit with people having the same issue. Tires are not under warranty ofc.
Remote - Every now and then I can feel vibration and āDisconnectedā text on the remote when I ride or stop on lights. It does not have affect on the ride (thanks god). I wrote to meepo and they said to sent recording but itās really hard to catch it on the video.
Orange arrow on the front - minor thing but it will get loose and depends on your road it will get pretty annoying. Easy to fix with disassembly and scotch tape.
110mm Cyclone wheels - I put them on hurricane and omg, every bump is extremely laud and you can really feel it on your deck. I rode it exactly once and I can see that rear tires degraded much more compared to front ones. I donāt recommend them. Just to put a perspective of how bad they are. My cloudwheels with way over 1000km looks better than rear cyclone ones after ~50km.
I disassembled rear truck and all metal parts holding it together are mounted directly to ācarbonā deck. Thatās not helping with noise and bumps when riding on airless tires. I added rubber pads and Iāll test it if it helped.
Bearings - Cyclone 110mm wheels + hurricane destroys them.
Remote telemetry - whoever though that putting this battery indicator is good idea should be punished. Is it really that hard to put % or average voltage ? Thatās one issue but other annoying one is speed adjustment with wheel change. There is one parameter that you can adjust 60?-90 or something like that. God knows what you need to put there for 110mm or 125mm. There is no formula for it or anything I looked everywhere and there is nothing. Itās a number from black box which you need to calculate by yourself riding with gps.
Those are just about my same critiques for the hurricane. Iāve noticed those disconnects even while sitting in the board, but it immediately reconnects and it feels like nothing really happened, so Iām not worried. Boards like the backfire hammer line do the same exact thing.
i have the same thing, last time i felt the vibration and see the disconnect word i did a full brake just to test if the remote is really disconnected, the board full brake to a stop, so im not so sure if it really a disconnection or just weak signal that it pretends to be disconnecting from receiver
Youp unfortunately the same is true (not as bad) with the hota 150. which is sad as they actually rides great! Prob my favorite tire in terms of ride feel.
Not very surprising as they are both manufactured by hota.
Pretty sure it is just a weak signal false alarm. When I am in the middle of the city with lots of traffic, the remote buzzes quite a bit. I have not had one actual disconnect. I think the issue is the top plate is carbon fiber and not fiberglass. Basically the antenna is inside a carbon fiber box.
I read that Hurricaneās ākegelā pulleys will not fit actual kegel cores (Boaās), is that true?
