MBS Matrix iii (3) discussion

First impressions

Big step up from matrix2

-10 points. Both of the matrix 3 badges on the baseplate were peeling off before I opened the box. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

Would recommend.

Unnnf that’s my dream setup right now

What size hangers/axles did you have to go with?

Is there gonna be a matrix 3 jump drive build coming soon?

320 hangers and you need the longer axles - I think they’re 70mm but it’s whatever is on the mbs site. They ride noticeably better than the matrix twos particularly off-road, but not done a scientific comparison with other setup variables the same. The belt setup is @Regular_Michael handiwork. His helpful customer service was part of my inspiration for getting into diy with the apex build - cheers Mike! Also thanks to all on here great way to learn and get inspo

Hey mate,

My go-to setup on all my Matrix III builds is Radium everything, so they all end up looking the same. One time someone @CannoliRoller came up with a crazy idea to use gear drives…

I’m working on a Lacroix Nazare DIY build, and I’m going to go with Matrix 3 Trucks. However, I am thinking about buying the 70mm X 12mm Axles to make the trucks from 420mm to 460mm (wider, but not as wide as Hypertrucks).

My question is: Has anyone tried the 70mm X 12mm Axles on a belt drive? If so, was the extra $100 for the 70mm axles worth it?

I think most people would buy the longer axles in order to fit gear drives, or if you have wheel pulleys with bearing supports, like what lacroix used to us. Otherwise you’ll just have to add spacers to use the extra axle length, but if you want wider trucks, it’s a good way to go.

Wider is not better tho. I’d go with the 420 and regular axles to start if I was putting together a belt drive m3.

Thanks for the input. I had that same thought. I’m planning on building the board, riding it for a while, and then deciding on whether to widen the stance with the longer 70mm axles and spacers.

This is somewhat of a budget build (if there is such a thing), and used Hypertrucks (or other high priced alternatives) for trucks isn’t in the budget. But I still like the looks of the wide stance Hypertrucks bring to the Lacroix boards. That’s why I’m wondering about the 70mm’s.

I’m piecing it together slowly (with parts bought on this website, E-Bay, Amazon, etc)…

Stable af. Only gotten about a hundred good miles testing but easily broken 30mph. If im not paying attention ill cruse over 25. Need to wedge it for 5 more degrees front and back to get it a bit more nimble. Outside position on the bushings is a bit stiff without bindings, and inside position is much nicer and still good return to center.

Road feel is channel trucks lol so my stance is a bit narrower to let the deck flex eat more of the vibration. With the cutout issues i was having at first combined with the rain I haven’t gotten enough mileage to really tune them really well but they are high speed carvey

Clearance is good if you’re not using an under slung enclosure but i am so ive got it stacked up on 25mm risers which gets me some more clearance and leverage. If you went top box without bindings you might struggle to get it dialed as ive got the softest bushings front and back and am 200lbs but still on the loose end of bushing compression…

but i run loose and goofy :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: this is all first impressions but ive hit some gnarly potholes and poorly set manholes in dt Seattle and it soaks it up pretty well, feedback from them is pretty intuitive and im liking them so far.

@MBS I’ve got some needs for some matrix iii trucks and some hubs… when will australian stock be back on the shelf or whats the wait time? Not in a sprcial hurry but need to set aside those funds against a timeline else it will end up somewhere else in the meantime
