MBS Matrix iii (3) discussion

That’s right, the stock orange blocks had a bit of ‘play’ to them when they returned to cemtre which i foumd a little un nerving over 40kmh, fixed with riptides and radium adaptors but wanted to know if that was the same on these or had been addressed

Where I’m at with these is that I am not sure yet if they are better than M2s with Riptides.
I had recently gotten into those and it was great.

But they are close.
The feel of the blocks really remind me of the riptide feel.

To me these are definitely way more consistent feeling than M2s with regular blocks.

Really? CST better than Kenda? I’m surprised

It’s not even close. They are so much better

Kendas were hit and miss there for a bit right.

I just ordered a bunch of these! They coming to my store :fire:

Good call. Your rec was what pushed me to buy them! I can see these replacing kendas as the go to 8” for esk8. They stretch great too.

Anyone know if any matrix II motor mount clamps work with matrix III?

No chance

I have now ordered a set to try. What do you think of them vs their 190s

I haven’t tried the 190s. From what i have heard, they don’t stretch the best. I’m all about the 200s tho. No balancing weights required and they are silky smooth at any speed I ride.

At risk of further derailing the conversation I will say they aren’t the most efficient tires though, I lost 20% in range going from stock MBS knobblies to the CSTs, which was unexpected because you’d think knobblies would be much worse on the road, but the Wh/mi doesn’t lie.

That is surprising.

My theory is that it has something to do with the construction of the tires. The MBS tires are thinner and “balloon” out more into a rounded shape, while the sidewalls on the CST are quite stiff and doesn’t allow for as high of a max PSI (45 vs 60 on MBS). The MBS tires have a smooth center strip as well, so it might be behaving more like skinny slicks at higher pressures, while the CSTs have a pretty wide wear pattern all the time. Or it might just be that the MBS tires are exceptionally efficient, I haven’t had other tires to compare against.

Larger contact patch is usually going to result in greater traction at the cost of worse consumption.

If you run them at higher psi you’ll get better wh/mile. I know the side wall says 36psi but I have been running them at 40.

That’s the thing though, I run both tires at 40PSI, so they should be for intents and purposes similar.
