MBNEF 43: Mostly But Not Entirely Flat deck

Gotta be able to hold at least a kilo or two of coke. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I did a little bit of test fitting and 12S4P 21700 would fit comfortably, even with your PCB kit.

For NESE it’s a tad too narrow. 8P modules would fit but 4P2S wouldn’t so you could only make 6S8P, not 12S4P.

For starters, I’m probably going to do 12S3P P42A NESE.

I also ordered eBoosted DS enclosure to test how well that one fits. No updates in 3 weeks though…

Two more decks came in with correctly drilled holes.

I have almost everything ready for making a build with this deck. I’ll start working on it soon™.

I also spent a little bit of time on the enclosure. As you might remember, Ben’s RE 44 enclosure fits the shape of the deck nicely but not the profile. There’s a gap at both ends:

I modelled a piece to fill the gap and printed it from TPU. I only needed one test print. Either I’m getting good at this or I was very lucky. (I suppose the latter. :))

I added a little notch for a DAVEGA cable.

Here’s the fit without any pressure on the enclosure.

And here gently pressing it down with my left hand while taking the pictures with my right hand.

Looks pretty good. Now I need to do the same for the other side. That one has a cable outlet, which I plan to fill in but also add slots for MR60 connectors and potentially the charge port and on/off switch. Hopefully there’s enough space for everything. Then the enclosure will merely be a lid, with no holes in it and detaching it from the deck for servicing will be completely hassle free.

You may as well add phase wire and sensor cable holes in the 3DP spacer while you’re at it.

So excited to see this come together, and hopeful you make these available to the unwashed masses.

I could have the first batch made already. I just thought it would be better to do some testing first. If I can find 10 people who are eager to take one even before the testing is finished, I’m happy to pull the trigger. I can do 110 EUR (+21% VAT in the EU) for the first 10. The next batch will be more expensive.

Let’s see:

  • I want one now!
  • I may pick one later once testing has finished.
  • I misclicked.

As usual, my financial timing is awful. Buying all the components for a new PC this month. I will start setting some aside, though…

Seems almost a shame to put grip tape on it! It’s very classic looking.

In general, my short experiences so far is that electric skateboards resemble electrical vehicles much more than they resemble skateboards.

Deck, trucks, bushings, wheels

VS

Deck, trucks, bushings, wheels, batteries, enclosure, BMS, VESC, controller, etc.

Once you wrap your mind around that, $3K is reasonable. It’s not for everyone, but it can make financial sense for some and others it’s a simple pleasure like buying an Audi VS Ford Escort. Both get you from A to B, so why pay more? Because you want to.

If you’re serious about making money - hard to beat the Chinese. But if you can make some friends happy and nearly break even, that’s worth it to some…

Good luck!

Status on enclosure?

Looks like a big ass rectangle would work fine lol

I think @RideNebula might need this deck! He is lasering a bad as grip tape design that would go with this nicely! :star_struck:

12s5p p42a should fit.
Hummie could fit 12s4p with minor routing. Hummie with bergs (41 inches) i would just grab it by a hanger and bring it up the stairs.
My current mtb (47 inches or 119cm) i kinda have to half hug it with both hands, no chance otherwise

Are we still discussing names? If so, viper (yea, just viper™) sounds cool.
Could be senderized with dark iridescent snake scales under clear epoxy (perfect occasion for glass frit as well)

As tempting as it is, decks are the last thing either one of us is short of on right now.
