MBM’s Non-Osha Approved Build Cave

It’s always so lovely waking up to a finished part and not a rats nest

Rear part came out good, 11hrs30min

Front part is going to be about 12 hours, so it’ll be done before I get back home today (sigh)

But then I can get it glued up, clamped up, and mounted up

supports look good. the bambu auto created supports I am using are not coming out well.

My dad was saying the same thing, his bambu tree supports always fail

I used to use cura for everything, then I switched to prusaslicer

I am running some version from a year or so ago that seems to run the best and have the best results

Only thing is no presets, so a lot of trial and error setting up, but once done it’s solid

Well I spoke too soon

This other piece is giving me problems

Got home yesterday to it stopped due to my gf thinking something was wrong with it (nothing was wrong with it)

And so I restart it and go to bed, only to wake up to the printer saying it’s done with the piece unfinished

Turns out the Gcode was corrupted so it got 93% of the way there before saying it was done ugh

So now i’m hoping I have enough filament to finish, if not it’ll be a couple more weeks, so I can figure out how to get the printer working good, and get some more filament

How fun

i had the same thing happen i ended up recalibrating last night and cracking the door for print. i think the filament might not be consistant?

I just recalibrated, re leveled

And then it plunged the hotend into my brand new bed

Let’s just say the printer has a new place next to the pile of useless shit under my desk now

I’m just going to send the files out to get done professionally fuck it

lol yeah I think that’s what ima do

He’s got the big boy bambu I just need to buy him petg

I’m so close to just buying one

He’s a busy guy so I don’t want to bother him too much lol

i got the p1s going to put hard nozzy on. still think its got a lower max temp than x1c and non heated chamber.i cant dry filament in my oven my wife would nuke me from orbit

Yeah I think that would be the one I would get, not too expensive

Good old barely working old toaster oven putting in that work for the filament drying

My dad just bought a camera case to keep all his filament in, I might do the same thing, not cheap but not expensive

Okay so I got fucked today by the rain forecast

Went to leave only to find it raining, so $50 uber it is

But it got me thinking, how hard would it be to waterproof everything

Now thinking about this I really just thought like my fpv quads, motors should be fine, seal up the battery box which is mostly waterproof already, and seal the solos either case or themselves

This got me thinking, they make something called FPV WorryFree, shit is awesome for quads, but I wonder if a couple tubes of that would allow me to ride in wet conditions and not have to worry (like it says lol)

@Skyart do you have any ideas/recommendations on this?

My concern is the higher voltage might come more into play vs fpv equipment, so maybe conformal coating might be as far as I want to go on the pcbs, and then waterproof the case

my waterproof equipment manages to get moisture and stuff in it which makes me nervous. It depends really on how much rain and stuff. I personally would rather pedal the bike 28miles then risk my esc or battery. there are definitly people who do ride in wet weather. I think @TimR does?

Sometimes I’ve had to. My prototipo and Lonestar have both been fine, as well as the two boards on thane with my own glass enclosures.

Worst boards I own for it are a raptor 2.1 and a couple GT carbons. Why do I still even ride these boards? Honestly , I don’t know.

Lol okay so about the same amount of rain riding as i’ve done in the past

If you need a place for those dang shite boards to go to myself or @SternWake will take them off your hands

I know the la croix’s were really well sealed for the most part

Sorry, my cheap junk came with completely unrecognizable brand names that seemed to use old 5 year old parts that were rusting in some warehouse in china.

Really, my 83mm hub motors had rust inside the cans where he magnets were glued.

I’m on a different level of junkification, and attempted dejunkification.

And possessions are burdens man…

Update on Meepo Swap

Got this filament to print in bc I always wanted to use it, thought it looked cool

I was thinking “Maybe it’ll clog bc it’s got those particles in, eh I should be fine i’m printing on a 0.6mm tip”

Well I was wrong, definitely clogged all my nozzles I had and tore thru a ptfe tube

So I ordered some black petg to run and see if that will do better

That being said a new P1S is on the horizon, waiting to save up some and then going to make a purchase, Kobra 2 Neo lasted about 10 months and i’m happy with that

That along with my free time is dwindling

I like to say I dabble in welding/fab as a side gig

Well my ass just got a $15k order for 35+ Custom stairs

So that will be a nice payday, but a big job that will hopefully be pretty fun

It’s the biggest project i’ve ever took on and is going to take some pulled strings to pull off, but will be worth it in the end

That along side my main full time SM position for the next 6 months or so will be a test for sure

But at least things are happening

Oh and I get a car next week, Got enough saved up to finally take ownership of an old family car

You guys and 3D printing… I bought one six months ago thinking I’d do all sorts, but instead of reaching for the miniture work laptop and finding some drawing programs I end up either catching up on outstanding admin tasks then reaching for an esk8 remote and going for a beer. The printers still not been used.

Then instead of printing things, I find myself more likely to hack at existing materials with a bandsaw, railsaw, thicknesser, jointer, router, or chisel and make any given shapes using foam, wood and fibreglass.

What software are you people using to draw these things in?

Onshape

Super powerful but also not easy

If you have no cad experience, check out tinkercad

It’s made to be super easy to use and intuitive

I would start perusing thingiverse, printables for things you want to print

I found small nick nacks are fun to print but just get thrown away eventually

I use it now more for prototyping and small things I can save money on

Soap dishes, Jewelry holders, hooks, shelves, cases, boxes, stacking storage, organization items, and what not

Once you feel confident in designing things it will be more common use

When it works I use it probably twice a week for something, but a lot of the time it just sits, unless I have a project for it

Sweet, cheers.

I tried Freecad, but kept getting confused.

I’ve used SketchUp for designing what turned out to be almost the most complicated front fence imaginable and modeled my kitchen in it too prior to constructing, which required half a lifetime almost.

I learned in sketchup

I took some classes on it which helped transfer to Onshape as it’s the same draw and push/pull effect

Tinkercad makes it easy, start w shapes and modify them

Oh and i’ll also tell you, I still use my dremel and hacksaw and what not, now it’s just on my 3d printed things lol
