MBM’s Non-Osha Approved Build Cave

Welcome to Mullet Boarder Mobbin’s Haphazard filled collection of Nonsense

There’s been a few things i’ve been working on so I figured I might as well put it all together into just a general build topic for all my miscellaneous stuff that goes on in my adhd induced mind.

So firstly I was riding my Banana for a decent amount of time before the tenka in it did what tenkas do.

The week of it retiring I was looking at putting a new set of motors on it, which ended up not being that week as I had to get some more funds to get a vesc.

Ended up getting some SKP solos which are absolutely amazing (and have really cool lights if you put them in a clear enclosure).

Didn’t even realize them until my gf took a video at night of me flying by. Super sick.

The pelican case is a M40 Pelican that was wayyyyy too small to fit everything in but for the time being it worked.

After running this Jank setup for a couple days I received a set of 65100 Bioboard motors from @OzzysPaw (Shoutout, they rip and big homie for sending an extra couple bearings for the can) and I decided it was time to switch them over.

I didn’t wanna use the pelican case, as I was worried about it getting too hot with the heatsink on the inside so I printed the same enclosure I had on the Banana, but in purple and with a hold for the heat sink.

Now I know you might be thinking, what?! Yellow and purple that’s a lakers board, well i’m one step ahead of you.

I got a screaming deal on a Jeremy Leafe Pro deck that is white and matches up with the purple pretty nicely.

Tossed a set of street tires on the back and it’s looking really good. I have a white top box that is on the way so i’m hoping to get a sick white to purple from front to back. And i’ve been looking at wheels too so if anyone has a white set of wheels im interested.

Only one setback so far and that was on the first test ride I was running to the store which is only about 1500ft from my place. Decidedly it was not a great idea bc I didn’t double check my motor current and brake current and it turns out it was up at 120a and -120a so I grabbed some brake after zooming in the parking lot and it locked it up at about 25mph.

Luckily the helmet and gloves I was wearing did its job and for wearing shorts and a t shirt I have no road rash other than some scuffed elbows

Major casualties include Batwing XL Case, Work hat, and big right buttcheek bruise (not pictured, behind $5 pay wall)

New matching case on the way now, wasn’t going to do it right away but you forced my hand puck.

Now I have the Banana deck just sitting and I sit back and think hmmm do I want to sell it or build it up again?

As you all know how it goes I decided to do the latter and now my lovely gf will be joining me on some rides once I get it all together.

Will be picking up some more parts as I get paid, unfortunately I also have to work a full time job instead of just playing with high powered toys.

Good talk

Just took a ride down to the smoke shop for another test ride and it went well.

Board pulls like a maniac now and just keeps pulling so i’m getting the bushings dialed in.

Just over 11 miles and I ended up hitting an Overtemp on one of my motors. Or both

A guy let me go at a stop sign cause he saw I was ripping and when I went to give it power it felt like I had accidentally pressed the M button on my puck, it just barely kept going as I was going up hill and then it started to pick up a little bit.

I got home and noticed my motor temp cutoff was set at 85C which seemed a little low so I pumped it up to 100C and we should be fine now.

Oh and the Purple Batwing XL is alllll done fits nicely and works well.

Damn these 3d printer things really make you start to hate non open source things, if I didn’t have a puck I would be stuck trying to find a new remote.

Good stuff butt cheek is still hurting a little bit but I will live to tell another tale

Yup, those motors can take high temps. I usually ran mine at 100/110 for the soft and hard cuts and only got close to the hard cut when riding hard in the hottest of weather.

That is what I figured. They definitely seem hot but they don’t seem to care.

It’s definitely hot near me so I put my hard cut at 115 soft cut at 100.

If I hit it again I will probably raise it, I just did it for posterity. It’s been 85F everyday here near the ocean and I work where it’s 95F a little more inland. So better safe than sorry imo.

Thanks for the motors btw dude they are awesome

Just ordered all the bits to get some lights put on.

Nothing too special about it but there is something cool that hopefully will work which you guys will see.

I’m also working on getting Baja Designs to fork me over some S1s at a deal so they will eventually be what’s on the board.

A couple days and i’ll get it going should be pretty sweet

Glad they’re the right match for your build. I loved how loud and angry they sounded when I’d hammer the throttle.

Dude they sounds so angry. Makes me smile

Just got to the train station this morning and I checked my Yours Truly log and it’s a little confusing.

Vesc speed is Avg. 25.7mph, Top 32.8mph
GPS Speed is Avg. 23.9mph, Top 41.8mph

Now the Avg speeds are somewhat close so that don’t concern me but what’s the deal with the gps being so off?

Might just be time for a megan ig I have yet to get this working right

And it could be me i’m not sure everything looks to be right

im still messing with yours truly havent got accurate numbers from it yet

So i’m not the only one then

Legit question, how do they end up that extreme? was it a past setting for some other build? I still use the default settings on my board that the VESC tool/ software set for me which has worked well for the most part so I don’t fuck with the settings. Breaks suck right now but that is more due to the heat since they were working super well pre-95+ f days

I had just put the motors on the night before and set them up but forgot to double check the Amp limits. I believe it was the default for the vesc that was set. I’m using the bigboy motors so the default settings are pretty high

Looking at the Yours Truly log I also confirmed it was slamming the motors to a dead stop basically.

I noticed it a little bit going down the hill outside my house so I stopped and changed my curves for the brake.

But that didn’t change anything.

I keep my brake at -40A with a -4% Poly curve on it. It hits nice and hard when I need it and I keep my ramping time at 0.10 for Pos and Neg.

Thinking about getting a racebox to start getting some drag times.

Anyone have anything to say about the Racebox Micro? Good or bad?

For the $89 they are at now that is kind of almost a no brainer for a board

Do this soon, default limits are dangerous, especially the ABS limit. Set it too 200amps

I did it that day. They are at 175 and i’m just keepin them there.

Luckily everything was okay and nothing damaged

Okay finally got to getting the new box on and converter put in for lights, just needed to order screws so i’m waiting on those and then I will get the lights put on

Cutting the holes out for the loop key and power came out really good imo

I don’t have any photos yet as it’s not all the way done but I did get a photo of everything wired

There’s a lil something in there that I will leave it up to guess what it is until I get the lights put on and finished, but so far it’s sweet.

Now it looks a heck of a lot better and with the lights it’ll be even better :slightly_smiling_face:

Aaaaand just like that I’ve got the lights on a routed. It came out so much better than I was expecting.

I also figured switches are kinda annoying and I didn’t wanna put another hole in my top box so I ran a wireless keyfob for the lights.

It works stupid well, they are super bright and I have yet to find the distance on the fob.

I also got one of these to run a usb a and a usb c port. It got delivered today, but I seem to have already lost it. Once I find it again I will get it done.

Riding good. I think the deck is too small for my 6’2” stature as I start to get a wobble around 30ish just from my stance. Looking a some deck options and will probably end up with a trampa deck for the size.

You should consider to pickup a tomiboi deck over 40 inches or a flux deck.

Tomiboi can customise the flex for your preference, with the flux you only have one option for flex, but both are great decks and I would choose either before considering a trampa personally

Thank you for the recommendations!

I just checked both of them out and I think I would agree with you lol.

I think I might pick up a flux deck if I can find one second hand, but that big 40” mtb deck from tomiboi is pretty sweet, just a hard bill to swallow for me.

That being said anyone have any old stuff laying around?
