That motor is screaming for a longer shaft that sticks out the back and runs another pulley…
I hear you, and I see it.
But that is @Linny level type shit.
And here it’s just basic old me hacking things together.
Welp. For this little project the best kind of motor is one that already exists in my garage and not a new one…
Ain’t got one of these.
Honestly surprised you don’t have one! ![]()
Would be a cool project, though. Ultimate single motor setup.
I’ve always been curious, how well does these run?
I imagine with a narrower truck it wouldn’t hurt as much, but this seems like a really wide setup…
There’s a reason the 1 motor double wheel setup didnt catch on very well. The more carving and more turning you do, the less it makes sense to do the locked axle with the motor. If you’re just gonna go straight to do a world record speed run, it makes way more sense, otherwise the locked rear axle isn’t a fun time imo.
Same thoughts there. I was thinking maybe with the size of our motors (5250) a single motor RWD might work, but even that feels a bit sketch.
Maybe a conventional drivetrain on one side and a magnetic linkage on the other side, allowing slop and decoupling would work. Should still provide similar feeling in a straight line, at least I think it should be a lot better than without it. Worth a shot tbh, the weight saved from 1 less motor and half an ESC should be more than enough for the magnetic linkage, whilst the cost should be lowered as well.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any firsthand experience with them. I just remember seeing a picture and thought it was pretty cool to share. ![]()
That actually makes perfect sense. I didn’t really think about how much a locked axle would mess with turning.
Maybe that’ll be the next big thing… we weld differentials for drifting, so who knows… Tokyo Drift Esk8 lol.
@Ean.esk8 was playing around with the idea for a while of a differential but with how big our motors are I think he scrapped it and starting working on more ethical stuff like the 2 stage gear drive. The magnetic linkage idea is a cool one tho. It’d work like a diff if you could get the resistance correct where it’s allows some slip. Tough to get right tho.
Dude, he’s doing some next-level stuff for the hobby—I really look up to that guy.
I’m still trying to wrap my head around the 2-stage gear drives though. From what I understand, it’s just two reductions stacked for more torque, right?
I was originally thinking of something more like VTEC where it switches profiles, but this seems more like a fixed setup.
Yep, exactly. Allows large ratios to be more compact. I’m working on my own 2 stage system as well
It would be neat to have little rc sprockets on this board.
But the motor pinion reaching is not a thing…
@Pecos weren’t you looking at something like that.
I could take a bunch of material off the plate for ground clearance
I almost feel like I need to pull these off of the current hanger and slap them on the 145s I bet if I move the motor down a spot it will be thenext thing in danger.
