Outbound Lighting is a really good company. I am using the Hangover as my helmet light. It works really well and also has a strobe feature that is really visible in the daytime. I will definitively look into getting a Portal for Black Friday.

I hate having to hold something when I already have a remote in my hand so here’s my solution. I almost always have a backpack on anyway when I’m riding so I clip the light on my backpack strap. I can still aim the light where I want (e.g. down when I run into people).
I tried going handheld once but it gets fiddly when I have to carry my board (that’s just how my route goes).
I only use one of them at a time. The Shredlight is getting long in the tooth and I decided to go with a flashlight. I’ve only recently figured out how I want it mounted so it’s pretty new as a riding light.
(BTW, I’ve started integrating lights on my boards–2 out of 3 now. I don’t worry about throw since the lights are there to make me visible).

i don’t ride with a backpack unless i’m bringing my charger on a long ride (fairly rare). i’ve tried that clip with the fx and it’s good but doesn’t give me anywhere to mount it comfortably without a backpack. the helmet light is just the best solution for me. i’ll also be running hardwired headlights on my next board. used to run shredlights on my last board till i went awd and didn’t have a good mounting spot. the charging of 4+ lights was really annoying especially when they would die after sitting for a day or two.

Try going through a turnstile then trying to switch on four lights on a board (plus another one so you can see where you’re going) you’re carrying and you just want to get home after a long day out.
No backpack? Wrist mounted pew-pew it is.

Are there any off-the-shelf lights that take 10S (42V) input directly? Preferably ones with on/off switch. I know using a buck converter is always an option but I would like to keep things simple if possible.

Up to 80vdc direct wire. Tested it on 18s and it works. Couple people in seatown run them on 12s daily

Those look nice. Thanks for the link! I’m confused about the 4 modes though. They don’t mention any switch. Do you happen to know how the mode selection works?
White, amber, red, Party mode iirc
Edit: ben says power cycle not the switch - switch does nothing

Power-cycling the unit switches between modes. Kinda annoying honestly. Means every time you turn it on you need to cycle through all the modes to get the one you want.

Hmmmmm, I don’t run them so im obviously off abse here. Its been a minute since i put one in my brother’s board. You are correct that button does nothing and its a power cycle that does the on off and cycles through the modes i think. Ill ping him and confirm before i put any more make more assumptions and let you know
I have these lights where that button is no longer decorative, turns them on and off and cycles through the modes, works with 12-80v
