Let there be ESK8 lights

It’s the same in my old build, I made an in line disconnect for the lights to unplug while charging

This is what im working on - it’s a buck with a 5v io on off signal from aliexpress and a tvss diode to keep it from killing itself - turns on and off with the vesc or some other logic input

Just getting started making a 16s and a 12s red tail light
It’s actually really bright so far. No voltage regs needed just straight battery voltage. I’m now waiting on the printer but I’m printing a tpu light mount and a tpu mold. Then I will place the LEDs in the mold and fill with black tinted epoxy. The hopes is for a light that won’t get effected by vibration, be battery voltage, and look clean.

Photo doesn’t do it justice. This thing lights the whole room up red. And that’s not at full voltage.

Is it just a bunch of 12v led strips in series?

Yupp. I was going to run a voltage reg but they aren’t very small for 16s capable. So figured I’d try this. Only down side is because of the voltage range of a 16s pack they will be bright all the way through but at a full charge they will be over volted. I tested a strip in free air at the “correct” over voltage for about 15 min and they got hot but not terrible so hopefully it doesn’t cause any problems long term.

what light is that?

Is the screw-in lacroix mount compatible with these lights?

I bought some front led lights for my board and attached them directly to my 12S battery with a just a latched push button switch, no step down controller needed, the light have been amazing so far and I need new pairs for my other boards but I can’t find the source where I got them from.

I remember someone here suggested them a while back, but I can’t find where I got them, hope someone point me in the right direction.

Anyone here ride in the rain at night on dirt roads where lots of mud sprays up?

What lights are recommended for these conditions?

Got this on sale and it is really good, a bunch of folks in the euc groups i ride with recommended it. Can find it on Ali express for much cheaper so definitely look there for it over amazon. Also flat so feels nicer in the pocket.

A couple guys are running these off board voltage, so cheap you should get a spare… because they also have some bad ones mixed in with the good. So cheap though and very bright

I’m going to second @Pecos that a flashlight in the hand is my preferred solution. And also another backup flashlight in my backpack, in case the battery dies.

will probably be my next helmet light i’m getting. expensive but does what i need it to do. just waiting till i have all my board parts to order it

The thing I don’t like about helmet lights is if you look at a motorist or pedestrian or even another PEV rider, you can blind them. The handheld flashlight is nice because you can control where it points in realtime, and it’s independent of travel direction and gaze direction.

I don’t like adding another “thing” that needs to be charged, though. The skate and phone are enough things to charge. Running off board batteries is definitely preferred but on-skate lights just don’t work as well for me.

I agree but i already hate having one hand occupied by a remote in my hand. i’d hate to have a flashlight in my other hand. if i’m on euc sure, i’ll hold a flashlight in one hand as i can use either hand and still have one free
