Let there be ESK8 lights

I’ve knocked those inductors off a couple times with unintentional mechanical energy input before.

I dropped it…

I put heatshrink on the pot, heat it up, clamp the hot heatshrink end with hemostats, then once it cools, seal over the end of the heatshrink. I then pot or seal right over it.

That way, if I ever need to adjust it, I can cut off the heatshrink and access the unmolested potentiometer. With no sealant or epoxy on it.

It also keeps it from rubbing on anything and adjusting the pot while riding.

got a picture of that?

hmm yeah this might be the move, I was thinking silicon instead of hma so it wouldn’t melt but maybe epoxy is better

Unless it’s a two-part silicone, larger gobs tend to cure pretty slowly, and the volatiles given off can be somewhat corrosive to electronics being potted during the curing process.

Make sure to use neutral cure silicone to avoid what @MysticalDork said

Takes a pretty long time to dry, don’t do it on a Friday and expect to use on the weekend

I don’t, but I’ve done it at least 3 times with great success

The other thing I have discovered is that without access to fresh air, they actually stop curing completely. Leave the silicone with access to air for at least 24-48 hours.

I opened up an enclosure once that had been sealed closed for weeks and only then did some of the silicone start to finish getting stiff.

I’ve been using this converter externally on my big board. It’s survived a ton of wipeouts. Just thought I’d pass it forward for anyone looking for a BIG converter. Still works just lazily getting through a rebuild

I don’t like that the big ones are all not adjustable. :expressionless:

Yea but it’s got battle scars!

Even the “neutral cure” ones will etch copper slightly and become tinted green when in direct contact, because they produce some ammonia. They’re not as bad as the acid cure ones that produce acetic acid (vinegar) though.

The one that @Ricco recommend me

@pixelsilva My trampa was the first high powered ttl unit. Ricco and I blew up my board a couple of times getting it right. A lot of the ttl kit today comes from those mistakes and is comprised of what worked. That converter is about the only thing I couldn’t blow up. It took a heavy beating in a couple really good accidents.

Still works? Look like been at war :boom::laughing:

It works just fine!

Am I right in thinking that 2x 42w at 12v will be pulling 7 amps ??

I want to use my wife’s car booster/powerbank. It has a 9/12/19v DC output. But I don’t wanna be blowing it up

The math says it will pull at least that much; yes

V=IR
P=VI

so

I=P/V

Dammit. And of course I can’t find any info about how much that DC port can take :man_facepalming:

Which port?
