JACKSON DRIVES | Open-Source Gear Drives for cheap | WORK IN PROGRESS

Could a reduction gear drive help with the inefficiency caused by running pinions with too few teeth?

My plan is making a double stage gear drive for the raceboard. That will make sure there’s enough teeth even on the smallest gear, and it will be enclosed so there will always be proper lubrication. I’ll share more about it in my build thread sometime early next year if all goes well.

That’s really good to know. Did it mess up your broach?

I managed to break my tool after 4x uses, but I think that was a skill issue on my end

Double stage open gear?

Why not?

Naw, was just aaking if he’s doing double stage open or closed. I want to hear what’s double stage open gear sounds like.

I’ll be doing closed. Will be plenty loud still I imagine. In my opinion open gears just don’t make sense other than being cheap

Update; I made a github repo

#1 on the wishlist for the next version is more weight savings. These are a lil heavy

How much ground clearance do you get with an 8 inch tire?

Do these have a much larger footprint than the BN drives?

Update:

I got a quote for the motor mounts.

~$25/mount

So the wheel gears are ~$50

So for a pair of drives it’ll be ~$150 without the hanger adapters or motor pinions.

Why am I excluding that? Because people will have to source those in small qty (less than 10x) from a piece meal CNC shop; amazon sells motor pinions and keyway broach tools. Reminder, these drives work completely with jump drive hanger adapters.

I had 4x ROSA hanger adapters made out of stainless steel and it cost me ~40/ea so $80 for a pair. I’m sure a aluminum one would be less.

Does anyone have a build they could throw these on right away? If so DM me.

Thanks all

Parts are in.

So far @stan_he is the only one to trust me with his money. He’s the only one getting that price. Thanks homie.

What pneumatic wheels and truck mounts will the Jackson drives be compatible with? Based on what I have read, looks like adapter will need to be made to use different hanger mounts. The mounting pattern on the wheel gear could be changed depending on what wheel you are using.

Basically all of them.

Any trucks or wheels that have ever had an adapter made for apex jump drives will also work with Jackson Drives.

Reserved.

Stan Inc. (not a real entity) thanks you for the favorable price :folded_hands:

Seriously, can’t wait to run these! I think for offroad/winter season I’ll be using the exterior case you’re designing, but for racing, I’m thinking case off, open gears

Open gear race board will be insanely sexy

Why? What benefits do you get from running them open?
