JACKSON DRIVES | Open-Source Gear Drives for cheap | WORK IN PROGRESS

As I’ve hinted at heavily; I am developing gear drives. Here are the goals in no particular order

Be open source

Easy, here are the files and drawings
GitHub - jack-luis/Jackson-Drives: An open source gear drive for electric skateboards
V6 Clean v12.step (4.1 MB)
V6 96T Drawing Optimized 9-8-25.pdf (151.8 KB)

Be cheap

Goal is under $300 for a full 2WD setup made in China.
The enclosure is designed to be 3d printed to accomplish this goal.

Be easy to have manufactured

Most parts can be made by JLCPCB or PCBWAY.
For the wheel gears, just send the drawing to a gear shop like this one (minimum order is 10pcs).

For the motor gears you can use off the shelf ones from eBay; Or ask the wheel gear maker to make you some.

Be reliable enough for high performance esk8s

This is why this drive will only be available as a straight cut system. Testing will prove all else. More info to come

I’ve got a test batch of 10 wheel gears on the way.
Still deciding on a shop for the motor mounts and hanger adapters—looking at JLCPCB, PCBWAY, SendCutSend (CNC beta), and open to other suggestions.

These are so cool. I’m super excited to see how the test batch goes!!

even as a bonafide belt lover, this project is still quite exciting!

They look amazing! Congrats!

Have you already ordered some of these?

Do you have a link to what options are available? What kind of ratios are we looking at?

Looking good! Thanks for the hard work on these. A compatible easily source able drive will be welcome for many moons.

This is so exciting!

Huge thanks for putting in the work. Can’t wait to see how these work out.

I’m stoked for these, but I gotta know if there will also be Luis Lube to use with the Jack Drives

Looking good! Craftcloud is a potential source for CNC parts. It’s the same site I used to produce the SLM drives. They’ll source it out to a large pool of manufacturers and send you a list of pricing. In my experience customer service has been great too.

The wheel gear is 96T. So you could go as low as maybe 15T? On the motor gear. I am open to making a larger higher ratio version if this one gains traction.

What size wheels will these gear drives fit? It looks like pneumatic sized but the adapter looks abec.

that’s gonna bring the heat in terms of torque!

Have you considered any alternative for the housing so its not 3d printed?

It’s all open source, for an aluminum housing all you would need to do is submit the 3D print file to one of the CNC providers listed in the main post.

That adapter is for MBS XL 2.0 ? (Is that the name?)

There will be many more. These are not for 'thanes.

Sounds like an average EUC model name

For motor gears. These will need to be trimmed and given a keyway. This is not too hard to do with common shop tools and a 3 mm broaching tool for a 8 mm bore

Can this potentially work without the cover? So open gears?

I like the name “Jack drive”. Not too sure about “Luis lube”.
