JACKSON DRIVES | Open-Source Gear Drives for cheap | WORK IN PROGRESS

Only issue is my name is Jackson not Jack so it wouldn’t make much sense

I’ll let someone else work on that.

Awesome to see another option for gear drives coming to market. JDrives for short is kinda cool sounding.

My friend and his friends growing up. J was slang for jerking off. They’d crack up everytime they saw one of these gas stations:

i was looking at the profile where it adapts to the truck do you think this could be D shape truck suitable if you switch out the Hoyt Adapter and change the pocket shape? i saw that its 16mm i assume thats not negotiable

Yeah that hanger adapter could be made to fit any trucks. Got a specific truck in mind?

i have a couple of tb218 but i see the rosa hangar is 301mm. also not sure if they durable or in production. caliber2/3 would probably be desired but they are too small i imagine

I’m happy to design those adapters for these drives. Ordering is up to you.

heads up on the truck clamps, if there based on the apex ones they are liable to crack in half as apex made them too thin. the drives look mint

Crack where? Around the mounting holes? Got a pic?

@jack.luis Im sure you have more things you’re interested in spending your time on, but I’ll ask anyways do you have any plans to set up a git/github/repository?

I already yoinked the step and will get working on adapters as time allows for Matrix II and Matrix III, and if the current wheel adapter doesn’t fit with the MBS Rockstar II’s I’ll try and get that squared away as well.

Did have a few other questions:

  • Have these been run in the field at all yet? If so, got any details to share?
  • Curious regarding general geardrives - whats the noise like for single-mesh straight cut gears?
    • After going from 2wd moons to 4wd belts im realizing how much I dislike the noise those chonky moon drives make. FWIW im not expecting belt-drive level noise out of these (or any GD)
  • For the wheel adapters what material are you using? (Alu, 3d Printed, POM, etc)

I suspect a lot of the work here is in offering the designs to the community and less about making it stupid proof (a scope creep problem of my own) so I’m also trying to limit my questions within that expectation.

After getting some mock ups printed to verify M2/M3 fitment I suspect ill be getting an order organized for 10-12 drives myself.

Yes, I really do need to do this ASAP. If you wanna help directly, get into my DMs. I have little experience with setting up a github repo

Nope! These are the early days.

Probably not quiet. These drives are geared (pun intended) towards mountain boards.

I will try to get away with a solid 3D Print out of Polycarbonate with M4 screws embedded for reinforcement. If that proves not to be enough then probably I will try machined nylon next.

Good Assumption lol
