And if it fails closed? Do you have to solder a jumper bypass or something?

After the above, I assume

I wouldn’t use one without building in a loop key as well.

But thats just me.

What’s the difference between failing open/closed?

Fail closed = always on

fail open = never turns on

Ah, i had it backwards. When mechanical valves fail open, they’re ‘communicating’. Fail closed is off.

Picture this and it will make sense what “failing closed” means.

Yeah I figured so much. Should have used better logic when I asked my question… what happens while riding if they fail open/closed is what I ment… Or when do they usually fail? Under use or at startup?

Blame it on my finglish

They fail usually at startup and typically not in the middle of a ride.

If it fails open, well you simply lose power and coast.

If it fails closed, then it acts as a wire.

But you could just bridge it if it fails, no?

Not if it fails open, it needs some modifications then

Damn. Complicated stuff?

Put a piece of nickle strip in there and 2 drops of mystery oil and watch that sum bish run like a spotted ape.

Whoa dude, no need to drag some great American pastimes through the mud. He is what he is, it’s not the blow.

Maybe I missed it though, the xmatic app on ios just needs a Bluetooth connection, why couldn’t it be used with bkb unity? Is unity not configured with the same vesc tool I use now with other esc?
