Take it however you want it. I’m just laying everything I see out there. I’ve made plenty of mistakes in my own ventures. But I, and a lot of the communities members, have watched many people make a lot of very big mistakes, worse than I think I ever have…

This path has been traveled many times in the short life of the sport, if you will, and we may even greater than a 50/50 ratio of failed and successful individuals/companies in the space.

Ambition and tenacity can pay off, but sometimes digging for treasure you bury yourself.

I just like building boards and making them look damn good. If I make a few bucks that’s gravy.
That said, this current one im doing up for Artem looks so god damn professional, hoooooo shit, I’m getting good at this.

Ooh whatcha got on the bench for him?

Heh heh heh it should be finished tonight or tomorrow at the latest, a blacked out stealthy Evo with some insanely clean line work around his logo. Not to brag, but I really outdid myself on this one. And so quick! Maybe 2 days total including down time.

So if I’m understanding this, homie will be doing “custom” builds that parts are supplied by Skyart power.

So his more or less assembling based on sku parts Artem gets.

Batteries will be assembled by Artem but everything else by aviator.

I don’t consider myself a builder but I’ve done like 6 boards so far. I don’t build for anyone but will suggest the path cause I don’t want that over my head if something goes wrong. Granted I’ve sold 3 of them or so to locals that I ride with. And offer support for them the first couple monthes.

Just like your earlier threads about starting a battery building business, get some built under your belt before you start taking orders. If your looking for validation here your not gonna get it with words.

I personally think your vision is a little too grand to start this. Hell your club venture doesn’t seem like it ever took off, atleast any documentation that’s shown on here that it’s taken off.

I just wanna say. My first board was flawless.

:alien:

Though. I had no idea and still have no idea what suits me the best in terms of deck, bushings, angles, tyres etc. All i found out was the evo with urethane is a bit rough for longer rage. So i have just a little bit more experience. Next is gonna be alot more comfy with the pneumatics i hope.

Also i have a little point in this. Even though assembling a board is not the hardest. Building a board for a potential customer is nothing i would even consider, unless he knew EXACTLY what components he wanted. I wouldn’t know shit about what to recommend to anyone.

My first build was, assembly wise, pretty much perfect. No mistakes to speak of, though choice of parts throughout was a bit lacking. The deck was a custom, and the decksmith had recently changed the order of his veneers, which was IMHO perfectly fine for his usual kick push customers, but the strain of electric riding did push it too far, it has a small but concerning crack and I’m not riding it again til I fiberglass the entire thing. And the motors were tbdd, and they did not hold up. Problems left and right, but all due to part choice, which was guided by the early stages of my research.
Actual assembly of good parts into a good board, is a very simple process that is hardly any more complicated than assembling a dresser.

make sure to send royalities

I think if people want to monitor and regulate the DIY trade then they should do something a bit more official than just making comments that predict someones going to fail due to lack of experience. If people care enough about this stuff, you could always set up a membership group where people apply to be a “MasterBuilder” and have to follow some strict rules around warranties, safety record etc. That’s the way most other trades do this stuff.

If someone wants to build and sell direct it’s a free world and reputations get ruined pretty quickly if they don’t do a good job. If one DIY builder makes mistakes I wouldn’t assume all are the same and never have a skateboard built

For sure. Just let him do it, either he succeeds or he does not. If you don’t have trust in his abilities, don’t buy his shit, it’s that simple.
