The type of insert and the way it’s installed are critical, otherwise they can (and will) pull out and/or bind up and snap bolts during assembly or disassembly.
I’ve stopped using them because the reliability of bolts going through the deck is so much better. But, that comes with sacrifices in the “appearance” and “svelte” categories.
Countersink, epoxy them in, cover them with a touch of your preferred wood filling, and youre golden.
Or just griptape right over them if you’re a griptape kinda guy.
Place enclosure on your deck exactly where you want it, then I used drywall screws to secure it on all the way through the deck they go. Then remove them and drill where the screw was.
I’m sure everyone has done it differently, but that worked really well for me.
i tried that method once, i had my clamp too tight so when i drilled and released my clamps nothing lined up since i had my enclosure flexed. not a fan of the clamp after that.
would it be possible to reshape an ABS enclosure to my deck, by bolting it down and and heating parts of it. It is not major reshaping just adding a little curve to make the gaps smaller.
