Check your motor shaft length, it might be rubbing on the cover.
Happened to me then i ground the shaft down a bit.

With the 13 tooth pulley everything was fine, I guess itâs the backlash.
When aligning and pressing the gears to the motor
mount plate with the cover the backlash might get altered.
I noticed that when setting the backlash on my gears, the POM gear likes to pop off the hanger, making my backlash setting too loose or too tight if I didnt catch it. I ended up having to press both gears in by hand to make sure they are properly seated when rocking them back and forth to test.
Itâs a little creepy, since the motor pulley is not glued onto the shaft, with backlash, it can move up and down the shaft a bit. I was considering adding retaining compound, but then the gears are permanently assembled â canât remove them without heat, which is no bueno with pom gear in place.
I donât think itâs a problem, but, if youâre considering it, donât use retaining compound on the motor pulley!
This is something really important to note! When I first set my backlash (was trying the paper method, i can not recommend) I did not have my gears perfectly in line, so my backlash was wrong!
To everyone setting their backlash, make extra sure that the gears are lined up before deciding that your backlash is good and loctiting.
Thanks for bringing that up @deucesdown
Hey yall, I made a thing.
You may have heard about the core cracking problems that have been cropping up in the Cloudwheels that some of us love. In response, it seems, iWonder is releasing a new model that changed both core material and core style, going from genuine ABEC cores to the clone pattern.
As you should also know, @avX sells a super clever urethane adapter for his gear drives. I have a set, but unfortunately while they work for both kegel and genuine ABEC cores they dont fit clone cores.
So, in preparation for the new Cloudwheels that hopefully will not crack, I made an adapter for the gear drives that fits the clone cores.
I designed and tested it off my 97mm Cal-7âs, so hopefully they work with all other clone cores as well. Since the 97mmâs have about 3mm of clearance under the drives, I have not road-tested these adapters yet. Try them at your own risk if you have clone core wheels big enough. Please go slow and be safe, and let us know how it goes! I take no responsibility for you getting hurt, and @avX has not endorsed this project in any way, so dont go crying to him either
If all that didnt put you off it, here are the files, BOM, and printing instructions:
I remembered that clone pulleys still do fit in genuine cores (just not the other way around) so I threw my 107âs on there. Not much clearance and one of my pinions gears does not slide freely on the motor shaft (causing the gears to not line up properly with this adapter, since it wants to smush the wheel gear into the drive) so I really only went up and down the street. Still, it technically works. Not what I would call âbattle testedâ by any means haha. I may put more miles on these as the 107âs make my board feel really cool
Can I order this gear?
I placed an order in this forum, but I didnât get a reply email.( ăĐ`)âŚ
Did you filled the form only, or did you sent @avX a message additionally?
If you havenât send him a message, do so he will reply in a timely manner!
Congrats to your purchase, this gear drives are awesome.
Hi there, sorry bout it, did you put an order through the order form?
Edit: you did. We went you an email explaining that you did not submit your address. Would you mind checking that out?
Welcome to the forum, man. I know @avx personally, and he is rock solid. He will take care of you.
Donât think I wouldnât. Heâs a good looking fellow.
thank-you
everyone (^-^)v

Hello avx. I have a Mk1 direct drive and am interested in anything new you might have for it. Are the new herring gears available . Been out of the game for a bit but have always loved your work. Can you update me on your inventory and take my wallet . Cheers
For TKPs thereâs not many other options. The RKPs are a nightmare to design around, apparently ride nice. Outside of caliber and caliber clones, there arenât many other trucks on the market that have any semblance of mounting options available. SR is really the only brand outside of caliber shape that has motor mount options until you go to the Kahuas or the MTB.
I prefer a narrower board. Whatâs the hanger width on the kahuas they only list a total? The kahuas are just too wide for anything I intend to build. But those herringbone drives I would love to make a build around.
What happened, Kenny? Out of the blue?
Looks like needs a Corona
Yeah this actually happened nearly 2 months ago. It was one of my most tame rides on this board as well. All even ground, cool out, didnât get above 30mph donât even think I did a hard pull. Noticed something funky right after going through a dip in a parking lot at about 5-10mph. I thought a magnet or sensor came loose in the motor since thatâs exactly how it was behaving Compared to prior experience. Finally mustered up the motivation to work on it and was surprised to find this. Nice not having to work on motor but a bit of a bummer having to wait for a fix. Now kicking myself for not taking off the cover sooner. Oh well
