Herringbone Gears Avio MK2 Gear Drive

You’ree looking to buy a motor with only 2 hall sensors? Haha

They are easily replaced, I did it myself with one of my motors.

Haha I have some hall sensors left over from a firefly build. But I’m on the fence. Sensors seem to cause so much trouble, ripping the pcb out is an option.

Question, how much space is there inside the geardrive on the motor mounting plate?

I would like to know if it is possible to mount a quadrature encoder such as the amt102 along with this gear drive. Whether the encoder goes inside or outside the housing.

Also what is the minimum required shaft length?

@avX it looks like 6384 are the largest motors can fit. Any chance for a 6396 adaptation?
It would be interesting to test them on the new Maytechs.

The hanger wouldn’t be wide enough for 6396’s?

I’ve had the same thing happen on an unsealed Maytech. Just seems like an unlucky draw of fate :frowning:

Nope, there’s only about 184mm between the motor mounts.

That’ll require a truck redesign!

Although you could go dual diagonal?:joy:

MiniUpdate!

Designed wheel adapters for foamies!

About 21 creditcards of clearance.

Oh yeah! That’ll be a first for these drives haha! Would love to see someone try that.

Or a mount redesign for a lager truck. I think this would be easier and please more people.
For example HeXL would be a great choice imho.

Haha, perhaps, but it’s not in my roadmap right now. I don’t expect there to be a large enough demand for people wanting to use 6396s.

Most people regard the kahuas to be a pretty wide truck already.

It might however be possible, to place an a simple 5mm thick x 25mm ID hollow alu stock between the mounts and the trucks to add more distance for motors. Though, this will only work on the kahua precision trucks. (A 5mm adapter at both ends = 184 +5+5mm clearance = 194mm.)

If people are interested, i can make a guide on how this can be done.

This could work indeed!

down for the complete gear drive on Haggy hangers with motors, so I can bolt to my second set of @rey8801 Hammock base plates, add Foamies and fly

You’re not planning on using bergs?

Do note that the adapter for foamies won’t be ready for sale with the mk2 set just yet. I intend to test my MJF nylon printed prototype it in r.l conditions before sending it to manufacturing.

I could however send you that MJF adapter after i’m done with it though (:

le sigh  I have v1 bergs in almost every colorway yet I’m heavy enough that they eat tubes at 60psi

the valve stem fix just makes them wobble.

are the new bergs out yet?

Have you tried balancing them after inserting the o-ring?

I.e. adding weights at the appropriate places.

From what i’ve heard from Timo, it’ll be out soon!

I thought about trying weights, will try.

I run them on two completes; the 13S5P ate all 2 spare tubes, rear wheels, when I dropped from curb to street heh
