Holy smokes. I missed this. Ur right, that wire totally worked it’s way out and shorted on the aluminum face plate.
@fessyfoo here is the story ^^
On a separate note
@Arzamenable I’ve got some motors that might interest you… Not those crazy KDE ones, but some cool ones none the less… Let me send you the link.
well now we have a theory of the failure. that’s nice.
I’m still on the why MPPT and not just some CCCV dc-dc buck converter
The mppts have built in volt and amp limits that you can change on the fly. Need to charge 9s, 10s, 11s, 12s, or 13s? Cool, push them buttons.
True, you could have a little flat head screwdriver to adjust the pots on most cccv pcbs, but it can get messy.
Also they have low voltage protection built in.
The interwebs say the mppts are more efficient than buck/boost converters too. But I’m never going to win an Esk8.news efficiency award, so
I mean they are boost converters. I think maybe the “more effecient” is in regards to pulling power from a solar panel as a source. my understanding so far is they vary the load on the solar panel to optimize it’s power output.
but yeah I was comparing it to using some other system with a display for current and voltage and adjustability in some form. not just mucking with the tiny pots.
like maybe the DPH6012 … but that’s also a tad more expensive than the MPT-7210A which I think is what @DEEIF used.
I guess, the two pcbs on the left look they they are actively conspiring to burn my house down, while the boards on the right only consider it in passing.
Not scientifically rigorous.
what is that case and extra display? is that you full portable charger setup? or some other model thing?
I guess my worry was that it’s designed for solar panels and doing some MPPT stuff. And now I guess that’s not worth worrying about because it appears it has non MPPT mode.
for the MPT-7210A
Mode: MPPT / DC-DC two options. MPPT of photovoltaic panels application, DC-DC
step-up power applications
and reading the manual i guess the “mode” is automatic? i couldn’t find a setting where you choose between one or the other.
Another thing, This thing appears to be a boost converter, and @DEEIF was using it with a 13s source to step down to 12s? maybe it’s step down as well? or there’s a different model. or the manual I’m reading is wrong.
So at this point my take is on why people used an “MPPT” unit is because it was a nice package and functioned in a non MPPT mode ie a DC-DC CCCV mode.
neat.
True. Only boost, no step down. Remove ‘9s’. 10s charging is ok to anemic.
The second gauge in green and black LCD is over all pack use. I don’t always use the ride and charge function from the mppt (36-60v).
Lately, I’ve been using it as a 12v battery with a 120w stepdown (not pictured but attached to bottom) to power a wimpy 100v car inverter you 120v AC.
It’s only step up, or step sideways. I was using it to charge another 13s pack
I don’t know why I’m just now seeing this thread but holy shit dude this is a Seriously drool worthy build. I saw the deck in Tim’s hands and loved it then. Our boards were senderized at the same time and are space brothers! I love the way you’re turned out!
Thank you for the kind words Michael! I love the space themed ones, yours is the choo choo right?
That’s epic! When Tim first sent me photos of the batch mine was in I saw the Choo choo and thought, “Damn, maybe I should’ve gotten a choo choo”
Board looks awesome! I like the graphic on the enclosure as well, makes it all match.
(I saw yours and secretly hoped it was one of Tim’s non commissioned boards that was for sale) lol. I’m glad it turned into the build that it did. It’s perfect for it. I’m on the three link list too but nowhere near the front. I’d like my race build to be next but That will happen when it happens. I wish I was on the west coast. You guys have such better riding conditions. The Nightbloomer is with Damon getting its travel packs so I can come ride with you guys.
From my understanding of the way it’ll from now on is that he will stock the 3links instead of made to order
I can’t wait to see your race board, if you need any help just send a message over! When the pack is done, come over and ride with us!
david bond had a prototype that he was making for the three link i was on the short list for that but he turned it over to red ember and i havent heard much about it since. i think my next build will be a scrap build with no sense of urgency until i get more on the three link
I think him and Jamie are working out the mold and how it’ll work with the new 3link design… That was last I heard though.
Easy thing is you can buy more motor pulleys for options, I found em on Amazon and got a smaller and larger set for street racing and then the smaller for when I can get it on a track one my foot has healed some more
Such amazing trucks to ride
Are you in SoCal? I have a bunch of different sized pulleys, I just can’t be bothered to put on a 16t pinion Friday night, not ride Saturday, race Sunday, put a 24T pinion on Sunday night, and then not be able to ride Monday.
Agreed, these trucks are awesome!
True that id just rather ride every second I can, being out injured was the worst time of my life
Although now I’m considering all sorts of new builds
An nah I wish I was over there I’m in Aus, you guys have so much going on, although things are starting to pick it up more and more everyday which is exiting
