The Solo is a million times more hassle free than a D100s. It just works, no messing with it, and you get full brakes in all modes.

TBF my solo and my makerX escs have the exact same brake behavior. So have my stormcores. People are too dramatic about it

This is respectfully bullshit dude, the solo is a great piece of hardware no disrespect to the wizard or art but it’s not the HW that is riddled with problems. It’s VESC SW and the solos have the exact same problems being on VESC software that the d100s has (bootloader nonsense, canbus / UART communication issues, weird low speed braking stuff, spontaneous combustion). It is considered a dick move in my culture to drop into a vendor and claim his product is just directly inferior to an alternative.

@haven had the same braking problem with his Spintend. But he said after installing the no limit FW it went away. VESC is weird…

to be fair, i’ve heard of like 5 d100s’ blow this season alone. i don’t recall hearing about any solos blowing except for my 2 which had power stages killed by the same motor pair. (not saying there aren’t any others but that’s just what i’ve seen) my time on the d100s was complaint free minus the can chip back feeding power issue (really just a minor annoyance) and a slight fear of them spontaneously combusting on me in the back of my head after seeing so many blow seemingly for no reason.

I didn’t read the thread title I just reponded to his question which he deleted for some reason, I wouldn’t have said that if I realized. However you are implying the only answer I was allowed to give was the d100s because that’s the thread and that makes no sense since he asked about all 18s VESCs.

Ash already said it, solos are not as volatile as other VESCs and there are plenty of examples out there.

The D100S has 3x half bridge drivers per side, so it’s a DRV-less design.

It’s kinda in a weird spot. It’s so compact and powerful that nothing even comes close to it, and it has a good price as well.

The SKP solo has about 60% of the power, it’s more expensive, larger, but more reliable.

If I want the same power in a less volatile package I’m at twice the cost and size.

While these aren’t a bulletproof thing like more expensive options are, they are at the same time at least from what I’ve seen a league above spintends and flipskys and basically anything else for 300$ per 20S compatible dual for reliability.

The 60V ones are very reliable though, it’s only the D100S that’s a little volatile

and with the v2 in the final stages of testing it won’t be the case for very long. kinda glad i ran the d100s’ for some time so i can get a good comparison between the two once the weather warms up

I’m using the D100S with 360KV inrunners at 20S.

Forest and dirt, with 9 inches wheels.

No issue after having set Traction Control to OFF and Absolute Max Current to 420A.

In spite lots of burnouts in dirt. Enough to kill the Loctite 648 on motor sprockets.

Very good start up with HFI. The same I could have with sensors even in dirt. HFI was easy to set properly. Phase Filters are set OFF as advised by MakerX.

I’m very satisfied with it.

I am pretty sure you are supposed to have phase filters on for the D100S and off for the older D100.

That said if it works well don’t touch it

Those are probably 4 pole motors and not 14, so end result is a lower ERPM, easier on the controller.

That said… Good to know inrunners work well!

« filter is not available on HI200 ,HV200 ,HI100 D100 M100,If you are using official firmware, Please turn off the phase filter

Ok because of this page I have set them OFF. Anyway as you say I won’t turn them ON since it works great like that.

With 2stage gear drive from E-Toxx, it’s amazing!

On March 11, 2024, I asked David @YUTW123 :

  • Hi David, does the d100s have phase filters? And should ā€œenable phase filtersā€ be set to ā€œTrueā€ or ā€œfalseā€ in vesc?

David’s reply:

  • Yes, with phase filtering. It’s on by default in the firmware.

Phase filters are supposed to help with silent HFI, so I wanted them enabled if it was recommended, which it is. It’s not as good as phase shunts, because it’s not silent, but there is no 20s ESC with phase shunts yet.

Hi!
Does anyone know if this is fixable?

Doesn’t look good, you’ll need to test all 4 of those ICs around the burn and probably replace any nearby SMD components. It’s unlikely all of the ICs will be okay.

It’s possible to bridge traces and vias but if the IC burns you gotta straight up replace it.
