General Questions Thread 2025

I have a flipsky 4.2 dual pro and I need some tips for running it on 12s. I know it’s a bad idea (I will be upgrading in the near future to a marker dv4) but any tips on settings on vesc tool so I don’t blow up going 30 down a hill towards an intersection would be greatly appreciated.

Low battery current numbers are often the elephant in the room for reliability.

I had two Flipsky Mini FSESC 4.20 (from the first batch, with the manually-swapped gate resistors) on 10S that ran for six years with near constant use at 21.5A battery max each. (60A motor max current) But then one died. And that’s 10S. So I personally would go a significant amount lower than that. Like maybe 15A each side battery max. That is a guess and just what I would try if I wanted to accomplish those goals.

So I’m trying to get a remote to work and this is the first one I’ve used where the receiver plugs into the CAN bus instead of the other port with RX and TX. This remote is supposed to display telemetry but it doesn’t. Control seems to work all right, but have only bench tested. The receiver doesn’t have a wiring diagram so I can’t tell if CAN H and CAN L line up properly between the Stormcore 2.0 and the receiver. If those two wires were swapped, similar to RX and TX on other remote connections, would that still allow the remote to work but just not display telemetry or is something else going on?

Follow up question, is there a risk to me swapping them to see if it fixes the problem or could that lead to something worse?

Is there anyone in central Oregon that’s tryna ride? Don’t know anybody around or any groups.

I only know of the PDX crew

Swapping tx and rx won’t hurt anything. Give them a swap. Can high and can low can be swapped without issue also But it shouldn’t work at all if they are swamped iirc. Cant hurt to try.

Look in your settings and make sure can is enabled. Im not close to anything but the app settings should be obvious. Don’t change the clock rate/baud rate. Can make it a hassle to change back.

OK cool, I think Can H and Can L are lined up properly. I sent him all of my settings and this is the suggested fix. Hopefully will have time to try it this afternoon.

your vesc is not configured to send the status over can

Fix for the customer: in VESC Tool → App Settings → General → CAN status message rate/mode, make sure the CAN status is enabled like this: CAN_STATUS_1_2_3_4 at 50Hz

@haven is in the bend area I think? I might be wrong about that.

I’ve only seen one guy riding, said hi to him and checked out his board.

Is this no bueno?

Is this on the DV6? Have you tried updating the firmware?
I would recommend finding a tutorial specifically for the DV6 and updating the firmware first.

I updated it and the message went away.

I would be curious to see what power reads as for other people when stationary and high torque. (63100s 170kv 16S in below pics)

200A (100A per side) I think is a good level to see.

I didn’t manage to stop wheels slowly spinning at this current even while standing on the back truck, so take the below wattage with a grain of salt

So I’m trying to get this GB dual trigger remote to display telemetry. The instructions I got from @georgebenett say to …

“Fix for the customer: in VESC Tool → App Settings → General → CAN status message rate/mode, make sure the CAN status is enabled like this: CAN_STATUS_1_2_3_4 at 50Hz”

He included the screenshot shown below.

Problem is, VESC Tool 6.06 doesn’t seem to have this option. Instead, there is a “Can Messages Rate 1” and another for rate 2. I set them both to 50hz. All of the status boxes, 1-6, are checked in both sections. Is the “Can Status Message Mode” tab hidden elsewhere? Any advice is greatly appreciated because I really want to get this thing out for a test run.

Tick the boxes 1,2,3,4 at the can messages rate 1 , don’t tick anything at can messages rate 2

Just tried, it didn’t change anything.

@georgebenett did you use ai to generate a customer service response and then just copy-paste it directly to the customer without removing this preamble from the bot’s response? Cus that’s certainly how this reads to me…

Yeah he definitely did but he already posted about being burnt out with this project plus a full time job. It’s a relatable situation. I don’t like it either but was going to give him a couple weeks before getting mad. I only posted here hoping there’s just some stupid VESC thing you guys would catch I didn’t set properly. Have never used a remote that plus into the can bus.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills with all this ai shit everywhere I look. Shit makes me want to scream.

Yeah, sure. And that’s very kind of you. But also, @georgebenett accepted your money in exchange for a working product. Customer support to get the product working right is part of that. Offloading customer support to the ai slop machine because he can’t be bothered to write it himself is disgusting on so many levels, in my opinion.

Not someone I’d ever give my money to.

I’m sorry you’re in this situation, and I’m sorry I don’t have any advice. I’m not super familiar with configuring CAN devices either. I hope you get a satisfactory resolution soon.

For sure, I’m not a fan of AI for customer communication either and at work we only do it as a deliberate “FUCK YOU”. It’s only been a little over a week though so I’m still optimistic that it could work out. Maybe he’s just working out some bugs that have to do with the Stormcore 2.0.
