Have you tried using an older vesc tool? Something like 3.02 for VESCs on 5.xx if I remember correctly.
When an update came out I wasn’t able to connect to my old Ubox at all using the app and Bluetooth, and I got that message while trying to connect using new software on the pc but older software was fine.
