Typically, a 2:1 voltage boost ratio isn’t too bad. That is a doubling of the voltage. Once you get up to 3:1 and beyond it gets harder and harder and the efficiency drops, creating heat.

How much current the power supply must handle matters a lot too. A 2A supply isn’t going to get nearly as hot as a 10A supply.

This is all assuming that a good efficient design was used. A bad design or too much cost cutting can really lower the efficiency and create a lot more heat. If you don’t get rid of this heat effectively then you shorten the life of the power supply.

IMO, it would be any manufacturer that wants to make PD controller chips or wants to make their products compatible with the new standard. I would think that would be every big chip manufacturer with a USB portfolio and most USB charging adapter, power bank, laptop, and tablet manufacturers.

Why should I spend an hour looking up every major USB charger adapter, laptop, powerbank, tablet manufacturer just because you are too lazy to do the same? The chip manufacturers you can guess at or do you need to be spoon fed that info too?

Reality nobody has a 48v powersupply at home apart from esk8.
Power bank? laptop? 20v
Maybe Makita will make 48v usb c pd lawnmower or chainsaw…

48V PD is just a words on a piece of paper with manufacturers not saying anything no annoucement…
you know it’s not happening anytime soon. on top of defeating the purpose of having a usb c eskate to go places and find a charger easily

having a charger/powerbank setup is great, implementing it fully is silly, better off making a quality stepdown separate

Something new is always coming along. Whether is is “much better” completely depends on your requirements. But we are talking about nothing now because, as is your SOP it seems, you are saying nothing about what you are referring to.

Why should we have to buy expensive, hard to find, high-voltage supplies for this buck-converter-limited concept you have?

I can design a multi-phase 98% efficient CC/CV boost converter that uses easily sourced 36V or 48V standard power supplies to charge any 10S-24S pack.

This 48V USB EPR concept has, of course, some limitations. Incredibly I seem to find that your concept does too. Every concept does.

We choose the one that best fits our priorities and preferences. There is room in the market for a wide variety of approaches to PEV charging. Perhaps even yours!

you can find all kinds of power supplies, adjustable/fixed, USBc/POE, cheap/expensive, power dense/light weight…

i’ve had difficulty finding quality step downs for 42-130v automotive grade

Of course. But you will find a much larger number of decent 36V or 48V supplies than the higher voltage ones you need for most esk8 packs.

A 100V to 5V buck converter?
That can’t be done at 99% efficiency. Maybe not even 90%.
And only ten pieces? For months of work and testing? Umm…no. I’ll pass on that offer.

Have you looked into going two-stage? The lower input:output voltage ratios will keep the efficiency up much higher. But you’ll have to run the numbers to see if your overall efficiency is higher than what you have now.

yeah totally that’s how my charger works, the problem is that the 12v load is big so youd be discharging half the pack which idk good idea
