First Time Builder - UK

Hello,

Just though I’d put a quick post up to say I’ll be doing a DIY build on this board I’ve had in my garage collecting dust for a few years. The Board.

I’ll be making my own motor mounts that I’ll first test with the 3D printer then hopefully i should be able to machine them on my CNC out of aluminum.

So if anyone has any second hand stuff they’d like to sell in the UK please let me know before i order the new parts soon.

Thanks!

As this is going to be a slow build I’m going to start with mounting the motor first.

Does anyone see a problem with the 6384 120KV motor off aliexpress?

I’ve selected a 120KV motor because I’m fat.

This will be getting paired with one of the many 75100 V2 VESC off aliexpress as well!

Deciding on a kv should ideally be paired with deciding your

  • Voltage
  • Wheel size
  • Gearing

All 4 of these combined will ultimately determine your torque and top speed.

That said, i find it slightly concerning that the user guide/documentation for that motor is documentation for a sports bag.

It may also be of concern to you that the motor seems to have a 5 pin sensor plug rather than 6, indicating that it does not have a temperature sensor in the motor.

  1. Voltage - Will be 36V - either 10s3p or 10s4p
  2. Wheel size - hoping to modify the current 70mm wheels i have on the board.
  3. Gearing - Will gave to work that out!

I also noticed the sports bag pdf but found the other info on an amazon listing.

Would a flipsky be a better option?

You’ll need to figure out a pulley mounting solution as those wheels don’t look like they have “standard” Kegel or ABEC mounting patterns.

Yeah I’ll be trying to sort out the pulley mounting myself.
Off the top of my head I’ll be drilling a few holes through the wheel and bolting the pulley to the wheel, but I’ll cross that bridge eventually!

Went with the flipsky 7070. I’ll probably start designing the mount so i can mount it when it arrives!

Quick mock up I’ll print when i get home!

You’re definitely gonna want to use all 4 mounting holes on any motor going on an esk8, especially on thane!

You really don’t need a whole lot of adjustment for belt tensioning, somewhere around 15mm should be ample

Thanks for the advice! Updated!

@darra7 tbh if I were you if you are running 2wd board with 10s battery I would do a 10s4p Samsung 50s battery for range and run 2 6355 190kv motors with a 14:36 ratio and some 85mm,90mm,97mm wheels as for the esc a maker x dv4s or some other cheap dual motor controller and call it a day I provided some links below for you to checkout parts on the cheaper side of things best of luck on your first build :call_me_hand:

What a guy, thanks for the links! I’ll take a look and decide soon enough! Definitely think bigger wheels will be needed!

This is roughly how the motor will sit! I will work out the exact angle and position in the new few days!

I’ll also need to work out my exact mounting position and possibly get larger wheels as the motor is the same size as my wheels! :man_facepalming: not sure how I missed that one…

I feel like the weight of the motor, with the leverage of the mount will have a pretty good chance of shearing off the cast ‘fin’ support that the mount locates on.

I hope it works out for you but there’s pretty good reason we don’t see very many cast truck options in esk8 these days

I love the idea of this build tho, proper OG style

Looks like you may want to make the mount a hair longer since it looks like you’re at the very end of your adjustment slots and the motor is pretty close to your baseplate
