Fair Enough
I usually store my packs at around 50% charge - the only thing that discharges is the Smart BMS Logic which will not use more than a couple of milivolts - around 0,2V Total over months at best.

I could however desolder the packs and remove them from the enclosures and store them in a box in the bathroom (where there is not much flamable stuff).

Not really raising my confidence with all those boards going up in flames.
But yeah - at the other end - how often do you see a post of a board NOT going up in flames.

I guess the percentage of boards going up in flames from the total ones in use might be around 0,1 % (at best)…

From what I know a lot less people are doing diy batteries because there are people who build batteries like me and others, and those who do diy are guided by people who know what they are doing, overall quality of the battery packs ins esk8 is much much much better than 2 years ago

A lot more knowledge and safety measure are the norm now, and if you do it properly you will get flamed out if you post pictures

That’s kind a right, but there are still too much people/vendors building scatchy packs and people still buy them. Same for ebike packs. I think in here we quite good building save packs but what pops up on fb etc sometimes really scares the shit out of me.

Profile title checks out I would say. Not much more to say to it.

I didn’t see many vendors selling shit packs on here thankfully atleast in europe, I tried to get into ebike batteries but there was literally 0 interest for a :battery: building service…

@janpom very sorry for your loss. Hope you are ok and still want to ride esk8’s

Correct! You can only slow down the fire. Sand is a good solution for this.

We are only at the beginning

Haha same! I see sometimes so much shit. Even some people who try to start a business in building packs and boards

I find the run away as fast as you can method works well too.

Been a bit of trolling in here @janpom apologies but Jason was cross dressing and we had to kick him out. Its not that kind of club. Glad you’re ok brother.

Best method. You have ±2minutes a big room is filled with so much deathly smoke that you almost can’t run charge way. 5 min and it is game over.

Sounds like you are talking from experience brother. Scary stuff.

Do you think making a carry bag out of fire blankets would be any good?

I have a Bat-Safe I store my LiPo’s in, you do get a Bat-Safe XL, and it contains the fumes too.

That sounds super scary. I moved all my batteries to the basement yesterday. I don’t think I’ll be keeping any batteries in my apartment anymore, both inside and outside a board. Possibly with the exception of the balcony and the basement (we have a small storage room in the underground floor of our building).

I’m glad you managed to handle the fire relatively well. Thanks for sharing the story. :+1:

The problem with those boxes are they made for smaller lipos.
Didn’t found information about the xl box but the small one is made for 222Wh only.

The XL is supposedly safe for up to 500 Wh.
