It would be cool this level of padding combined with abrasion resistant material on the outer surface. Maybe an idea for a new safety product?
What I wish is that I could get sweat pants and shorts that were padded and abrasion resistant.
But still easy to put on.
I know there are lots of riding pants out there.
But I don’t wear jeans or cargo pants, or tight pants so they don’t do it for me…
Yep! Best I’ve got is the lazy rolling armored casual for pants.
For shorts: impact shorts and I’ll throw basketball shorts over them so I don’t look like I’m wearing a diaper.
Theyre pretty damn comfy but as noted, they leave a fairly large area exposed to impact. Right at the hip joint too so very much the most dangerous area to not have something to protect, its a weird oversight and design. Ive overcome this by putting some impact foam in my back pocket, it covers that arwa well and prety much just feels like a wallet.
Typically, i dont really use them, they are more for when i go out to practice slides or want to hit a carpark for a run. They have their place but it isnt every day, just for purpose.
Haven’t seen anyone mention Chest/Back protectors yet.
I use the POC VPD system as I get a deal working in the bike industry and its saved my ass more times than I would like to admit, its thin enough to run under a hoodie but will still fit over it if you like. I don’t leave the house without a full face and the VPD.
Its almost too nice, it makes you feel invincible. Its helped me slide when its over all my gear, and under my gear it helps a lot wearing a backpack. I commute 25 miles a day with a 35lbs+ Bag and falling with a bag that heavy makes the bag hit the ground first, which you feel in your back the days after, not with the VPD.
I try to tell anyone I can about it because I think its the one of the best gear options ive found, Alpine stars and fox make them for moto which Ive had buddies swear by for that purpose but they can have a wierd shoulder pad setup that makes you look like a football player (American Football that is)
Fyi Its called the Alpinestars Paragon
I tried one of of those for awhile I just hated pulling off all my clothes once I got to work lol. I gave it to a local guy in my group and he still wears it every ride. Good piece of prot imo too
I have a Leatt 3DF crash vest which is very nice, comfy and safe.
Lucky for me I haven’t crash tested it yet.
My favorite got to be the impact shorts with plastic sides for obvious reasons I made them slide few times already
I got the new larger thicker pads from YouForm.
They are looking really good to me and a huge improvement in coverage from the ones I got from them before.
You put them in the oven for a bit and then on, to form to your hip and Butt.
I am happy I am not single and worried about getting laid, because these things really turn the nerd up to 11 and the butt pads definitely looks like a diaper.
Hip pad is fairly subtle.
I definitely don’t think these would be the same protection as my current padded shorts.
But I am sure they are better than not wearing anything at All, which will happen more as it gets hotter and the padded shorts start to suck more…
These are also super easy to put on. So I am more likely to slap them on for little rides, where I may not have bothered with the shorts.
I’m a big fan of their hip pads, might have to upgrade to the new version
I’m so happy to see you guys embrace gear, I don’t understand people who think it’s too much trouble or too hot, you know what is hot? Bear skin on asphalt! And don’t get my old crippled ass starting to bitch about them scrubbing the road rash or my pumpkin sized hip cyst.
Gear is money well spent and the inconvenience involved is NOTHING a compared to breaking 5 ribs, needing the dogs help to get off the couch (or toilet, sorry) take it from a dumb ass who knows crashing, gear and pads might as well be made of literal gold, they are worth more than gold in a crash when you consider medical bills and time lost .
At some point the injuries you get when you’re young and just shrug off becomes arthritic, and it BLOWS. Artem will be selling my lead foot soon because of this and I hate it! Ride safe have fun for me .
Have you gone down with them and if so did they help?
So looks like the clip for the hip pad is height adjustable - correct? I often find I want more coverage above the belt line, have a long hip. Is the clip hole solid?
About to get some plus the allround wrist guards, would appreciate any other reviews good/bad
Ek8 news should get referral deal!
The clips are adjustable.
Up and down.
Pretty good in that regard.
The holes have been solid.
The rivets are a little hard to put together to me… So that was a tiny bit frustrating.
Werd. I’m such a nerd I wear helmet, knee and elbow pads at the skate park, but then again I can’t earn a living if I’m injured. Teaching combative sports requires mobility.
Luckily I’ve reached that age where I don’t give a shit about other people‘s opinions, especially from younger people at the skate park.
„Skate or die dude!“
Easy for you to say little shithead, try earning a living and have a house and family to take care of when your legs are smashed to pieces.
I’ve never understood worrying about the opinion of a stranger,I’m still polite to them and I’ll help them if needed, but to care about what they think is beyond me. I don’t need them to think I’m cool . My step nephew refused to wear a pink helmet one time,I asked if he’d rather have a head injury or be embarrassed around people he’d never meet. He chose head injury. I offered my helmet and I’d wear the spare,no go! “ it’s bad enough wearing a helmet in the first place,I don’t want to be seen with you wearing a pink girls helmet “ now he is a great kid,but these attitudes are insane.
The skaters who were adults at the Olympics were disappointing!
“ Many pros dislike the weight of a helmet and find it unnecessary after years of practicing. Plus, it pretty much announces that you’re a rookie.”
The above statement is horse shit, accidents happen, especially when you are in the biggest competition of your life. 25 years from now you won’t remember being embarrassed, you will remember the arthritis in the old injury.
It’s a personal choice,I respect that, but it sets a bad example for impressionable kids . Might as well weld barefoot and just safely squint, shoes and visors are too heavy and make me look dumb🤪
This exactly.
Being cool or whatever generic excuse they use is much more important than a head injury it seems.
I had the same discussions ad nauseam in the old Onewheel Facebook group.
Good god what a pile of dogpoop these people are or can be.
Most of them never skateboarded or longboarded not even after riding a Onewheel but pretend to know better and the amount of „come over to America if your board is illegal, it’s at least a free country, America fuck yeah“ people is nauseating.
They‘d rather have a head injury (imagine, in this healthcare system) than wear a helmet.
Ok, rant over.
