DIY Wheels - Hollow Wheels - Very Comfy

Talked who into it? I am going to start molding pulleys, yes. Which one?

My friend @zkt7 here who pre-ordered the last one of this set!

He got a Exway flex after seeing my board and had been planning on the cloud wheels/110s.

Good that you are making pulleys so people wouldn’t have to order it from china.

Yeah I was juuuust about to message @Fosterqc about these wheels right before he messaged me first lol.

These wheels look very promising though, very hyped.

Also FYI, the link to the product page if you click on “comfortable hollow wheels” is broken after I bought the last batch 1 set.

Don’t know if that 5$ off works on checkout, but if somebody wants to try http://i.refs.cc/tRdD9fcp?smile_ref=eyJzbWlsZV9zb3VyY2UiOiJzbWlsZV91aSIsInNtaWxlX21lZGl1bSI6IiIsInNtaWxlX2NhbXBhaWduIjoicmVmZXJyYWxfcHJvZ3JhbSIsInNtaWxlX2N1c3RvbWVyX2lkIjpudWxsfQ%3D%3D

@zkt7 thanks! I just fixed it

@hans_maier it is broken and I’m trying to fix it, but if anyone on this forum wants to purchase a set and wants a discount, please message me and I’ll put in the discount on the backend.

Oh let me correct. 5% discount on batch 2 orders, but not on batch 1 orders. Thanks!

Seems like quite the success for you after joining the forum.

The community definitely helps me keep innovating, but too bad I’m still close to $20k in the red. Oh well!

Anyone interested in carving with us that is in Socal @fessyfoo and @DEEIF? You can try out the Hollow Wheel too. I only have one set bc I sent it all out, but it’s ABEC and Kegel Compatible.

Looks really cool. I’d get a set but basically all I have are hubs and direct drives. I can imagine the cans on the DD would take quite the hit in that video where the wheel compresses.

have not considered that yet haha.

Someone will still do it :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

maybe on a track where bumps not an issue

How big are the cans?

Looks to be 70mm in diameter. Here’s a pic with the abec 107s. This is the 75kv.

You crazy bastard I’m in!! (placed an order). I love seeing people trying to bridge the gap in performance between air and solid tires. Some of the most fertile ground in esk8 development. Personally I’m addicted to the feel of air tires but would love to get it in a smaller size. Let’s roll!

Yeah, so it’s another 2mm clearance reduction. It’s not that the wheels will just fold over and you’ll be scraping along the cans if you had a train track.

Here is a slow mo video of me jumping on my board (150lbs). I am on a flexible deck so the distributed force isn’t quite 35lbs per wheel. The stiffer end of the wheel doesn’t flex as much as the outboard side. You can view how it looks under load: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8wo5GOnAuI

@redunzl Let’s roll!

Sorry to say I can’t give a full opinion on the wheels because of the fact I couldn’t try them on my board (setup for me weight wise) because it had a different axle thickness. I will say though that the combo of loaded vanguard and these wheels felt pretty close to pnuematics comfort wise. Again I can’t say anything on grip because the board I tried wasn’t what I was used to.

  • Edit - In the review I do compare it to pnuematics and say it’s very grippy but take that with a grain of salt, especially for the reasons above.

Great to meet you @DEEIF. Thanks for riding it!

Does anyone live in an area that is hot AF? Like Arizona or the dessert. I need someone in that area to run the wheels and do some accelerated life testing for me. These are for the final production wheels using the final production manufacturing processes. I’ll pay for you to beat the shit out of these wheels at really hot temperatures.

I rode these too on the boosted. they definitely were pretty comfy. and they had grip I haven’t ridden a lot of thane in a while, but i’d say they are definintely between harder thane and pneumatics in ride and grip feel. I was able to break them loose a few times around corners but they kinda skipped a little and grabbed again and I didn’t fall.

Definitely interesting with all the tuning options of different cores as well. I’d say someone would have a good time playing wit them for a while.

Yeah, that set up you were riding one was for a 150lb person - basically for me and DEEIF. We’d have to play with a little bit stiffer insert since you’re a bigger person than us. Not saying your fat or anything. Just more downforce. You’re very aerodynamic

As promised here is the timeline sheet for the public to take a look. Some areas for delay are always in the final testing, tooling, and logistics. I’ve worked with this supplier on a lot of my other companies - Enflux Smart Clothing, FightCamp, BackAlert, just to name a few. and they’re really reliable. The tools are always very good, but you never know if there are some areas where there is more shrinkage and the tool needs to be reworked slightly. Injection flow simulation tools are really good these days so I don’t expect any delays. Another source of delay is just shipping and customs.
