DIY Wheels - Hollow Wheels - Very Comfy

I assumed that this was a place where people who knew fuk all about what they are doing to actually read the advice thats given and not act like an entitled arse hat out of the gate.

What do i use? Depends on the wheel. The board and most importantly, the axle diameter.

If were talking street boards… I run 10mm axles at the rear so the case for ceramics is strong. I also acknowledge that ANY bearing thats 22x10 has a massive shitty job to do and its likely ill be changing and inspecting often. For simple 8mm axles, Zealous green or white are great value and they provide a great deal of confidence and typically warning signs when they are going to fail well before they do.

As mentioned above, ive lost wheels from bearing failure (I ignored the warning signs) and i now give them the respect they rightly deserve, particularly the outer bearing.

Sorry, for coming off rude. So far the root cause of the failure isn’t known. The failed bearing is a result of something else maybe. So far the tribe jumped on the bearing failure as the cause. I don’t think any of the skateboard bearing branders make bearings, they probably spec out the bearings they want, lubrication, seals, and tolerance…but they don’t make them. They may be the seals a different color and printed and installed…they could even pack them with their special grease, but they may all come from the same manufacturer.

Its only one failure that could have been addressed quickly and went away.

I am going to go piss off, facts matter.

You seem to think bearing failure is an uncommon occurrence… Bearings are quite delicate. Misalignment of the bearing wall to the core wall due to it being so tight can cause something like this, a shit bearing too. If yours truly could send some more pictures which he was going to do we could see more.

Also bearings are a wearing item and delicate too, whack/press it on the side a bit too hard hard and you can throw your crusty friend away. Him saying he did 1000s of miles on it, you know how many rotations that is? A onewheel needs to change bearings at like 2000km? (Im european) and has a much bigger wheel.

Let me just give you the amount of rotations those bearings have made at 1000 miles on 100mm wheels, just bc i can  (everybody should be able to tbf including you)

100*3.14= 314mm per rotation.

1,000 Miles = 1.609344 x 10^9mm

1.609344 x 10^9/314= 5.125.299,36 rotations.

Excluding bumps, rust, dust, sideways strain etc that has accumulated.

I have a wheel addiction and these are so cool! I am going to have to sell some hoarded parts real soon, maybe a complete - to free up some $$ for a full set with the suspension inserts. Amazing work dude. Watched this thread since the beginning and really respect the follow through.

@TheGoodMomentum I noticed in June you mentioned not remembering rain in CA … as I look out my window at the fourth week of atmospheric river conditions I was curious if anyone has posted a video putting the wheels through their paces in seriously wet or damp conditions?

I rode the pros in damp conditions and they gripped quite well. Definitely more confident than urethane - not good for the board though lol it was so dirty

@Bavioze Thanks for making the time to do the calculations and for the added insight on the bearings! There should be a standard on bearing replacements because it may be a matter of time before someone really gets hurt. The older I get, the less appealing 30mph+ becomes. So many things can go wrong at those speeds.

@nomadic_myke Thanks for the compliments! Yes, it is now very rainy in CA so much so that it’s somehow flooding. I’ll have to do some skid pad testing and compare times, but since these are not treaded, I wouldn’t expect them to do any better than any non treaded wheel

Well, v2 are coming out and I still haven’t been able to use my v1 yet because they’re only Kegel on the inside and not the whole way through.

We’re all a little kegel on the inside

Got the shipment of V2 comfort wheels. Didn’t expect it this early, which is great. I am getting better at supply chain optimization.

In a week or so, I am going to unveil some concepts for new bigger (how big… up to you guys) Hollow Wheel. Based on those testing, I will be working hard to push the next Hollow Wheel by Summer - depending on how fast durability testing can go. But I’ve learned a lot and improvements will continually be made.

I thought the wheels would be here on the 20th, so I don’t have any help right now. I’ll call my people up and we will start shipping asap.

I will publish a write up about that. Sorry for the delay.

@MacKeeper28 we need a review after you get the wheels!

150mm+ with MBS bolt pattern :pray:t2:

Can you not just cut down the pins on the pulley? 30 second job

The bolt heads make me feel better about not losing a wheel (or in this case, half a wheel)

Unfortunately, dude has ghosted so far, but I have a set already (that’s wearing quicker than I expected) and I’ll put together a review this weekend!
