1kg for one or both ?
It depends to which truck you compare it, e.g. a Trampa Infinity truck weights 1kg and has no adjustable baseplate or massive bushings. Of course a Matrix II is lighter…
Yeah I agree now. I had to compare the numbers
Today I rode about 40km and tested some things. First of all I have exactly the same top speed like before with 220kv motors (52-53km/h) so the APS motors are not 200kv, they are 220kv which is awesome but it doesn’t matter because they are rubbish. I won’t use them anymore and message APS tomorrow, curious what they gonna say.
I lost an axle nut on the first 20km, was riding 50km/h on the street for a while… I did use way too long spacers instead of washers and the nut was not really much on the thread, I mean it was just for test riding yesterday but forgot to change it. I realized the missing nut before riding the 20km back so every couple of kilometers I checked the bolts holding the hub to the gear and didn’t ride faster than 40km/h.
Weird is that the velcro which I used on the vesc enclosure doesn’t work anymore, there is no more function. It’s 1 day old, spooky. The same velcro on the battery holds very good to my surprise.
I swapped to 3M duallock and no more problems.
In general I don’t recommend duallock because it can’t withstand vibrations. It’s much stronger than velcro and doesn’t wiggle like velcro, locked is locked. I use duallock for the light on my commuter. With pneumatics it holds like a champ but with urethane it pops off on every crack.
You have me concerned about the motors! I have a pair of the 170kv on my board that I haven’t ran yet… I don’t have any loose shafts or anything, what other issues do you have with them?
Same experience here with Dual-Lock.
Die grobe Schotterpiste hat es nicht vertragen.
hey lee I’ve used the aps v2 170kv motors on my latest rebuild they preformed really nice for the 10miles i have put on them. sorry to hear the problems rich has had with his.
There are 3 massive issues:
- wobbling shaft on one motor
- both motors make strange noises at low RPM
- both motors have broken temp sensors
the minor things are some loose windings, rusty stators and a magnet with a small crack but I can live with that.
I spent hours last night to finish the video which shows the problems and which I can forward to APS. Gonna post it here tomorrow so you see and hear what’s going on. A must see!
It hurted but I had to disassemble the drivetrain and remove the motors, no fun at all…
Back to 6374
Today I had a short ride filming the tightest turms i can do with the Bro deck for a proper comparison to Trampa deck. That’s coming next.
First I had to drill additional holes in the HolyPro deck to be able to mount the trucks. I mounted a Baseplate and took a 5mm wood drill bit and hammered a perfect centered hole. Then drilled the holes with 1.5mm and then with 5mm drill bit, very easy and fast.
I thought it’s closer to the big hole, looks ok to me.
Added velcro straps to the Trampa deck as well, no time for bolts.
I am really surprised how strong this velcro is, it was very hard to remove the case from the Bro deck, I think my safety leash is not needed.
After mounting the bindings I moved everything to the Trampa deck and it took 35 minutes only (including faults like mounting the front truck the wrong way or searching bolts). That’s nice.
Then I geared up ready for the comparison ride… it started to rain for hours so no more riding today.
There’s just no winning is there!?
Hopefully you can focus on how satisfying, educational and fun it will be when you get all these creases ironed out.
(Mounting trucks the wrong way is something I think we’ve all done at some time in our lives!)
No rain today so time for a ride
The trucks look badass on the holypro.
I also shot a video with the tightest possible turns compared to the Bro deck footage from yesterday. With the Trampa deck I can do significant tighter turns. It seems like I need the edge to transfer the power for tight turns. On the Bro deck my toes are a bit upward and can’t grab the edge and put the force there like on the holypro. I really like the Bro deck, it feels comfortable and stable but I can’t do tight turns. And can’t ollie proper. With the Trampa deck I can do this but it feels a bit wobbly/unstable in off-road conditions especially with more speed. I would like to have the little Bro… wait I could saw the Bro more narrow
I made a new record in hill climbing from standstill, it’s 35° (70% grade) thanks to 1:6.25 gearing and full throttle It’s really a Dirt Machine.
Damn at home I realized that I broke my tripod today, had some falls…
Fixed the broken tripod with milliput, not pretty but it works for now
Yesterday I was shredding and had some close calls and had to do some successful emergency jumps. This is one example, was riding quite fast and suddenly this massive hole appeared
Have to work the next days but should be able to upload the deck comparison video on sunday.
I need new rear tires, tbh I thought the nylon tires would last longer than a few weeks only and also I didn’t slide this is just from riding.
front tires still good
Love those e toxx hubs. Look super sweet on your deck.
It comes with time…
Yesterday I had a great ride after work out of town but it started as a nightmare. When I started to ride I recognized the brakes were not working. When going in reverse the brake (throttle) also didn’t work. WTF! Unloaded it worked but not weighted. I switched everything on and off several times and checked all wires and connections but still no brakes. After some minutes it worked as usual I was riding in a hilly area so no brakes could be deadly. Fortunately the board performed flawlessly but it took a while until I could trust the brakes.
If anyone has an idea what the root could be please tell me.
Speaking about roots, I was riding a narrow single trail full of huge roots and stones, furthermore it was often so steep that I could not brake enough, it was scary but epic. After a while I was stuck in the woods searching for a escape path because it was too steep to ride back.
After a while I found it
It was raining a lot so the path was not rideable at all, especially uphill.
I had to carry/pull the board for quite a while, even walking in this mud was difficult. After a break I climbed some crazy steep hills.
The riding was great but I had some troubles with a retarded old forest ranger. This moron was cruising with his car on the paths were mountainbikers and people are. I was riding a byway and he chased me telling me it’s forbidden to ride there. I was very friendly and told him I’m sorry and gonna leave but he just kept yelling at me.
Some time later I was riding downhill a sketchy road with a lot of stones and suddenly this moron appeared with his car again. I almost crashed into the car and fell down sliding on the stones with my body which was no fun and hurted. So I’m laying on the ground in front of his car. Normal people would ask me if I’m ok but this retarded forest ranger rant and rave and yelled at me with a deep red head. Fortunately I didn’t understand what he screamed because of my earbuds, I ignored him, wished him a nice day and left. I’m a very calm person but next time I see this idiot I will react different. I really hate such people, disgusting grinches …
NRF remote?
BTW majestic scenery
Yeah the Wand (with new PCB).
The only thing is that if it was the remote then why the brakes worked unweighted only? That’s confusing. Also sometimes there are hard cutoffs during hardcore acceleration but not on every ride, maybe every 5th ride.
Try updating the dongle.
There is an issue when you also have your phone connected to it due to an android update.
Maybe I should downgrade the dongle . I did an update once but can’t remember which FW it was. Actually I’m running FW3.65 because I don’t trust faulty FW4 and also FW5 (without trying it but I read a lot of problems so I’m not motivated to try).
