DIRT MACHINE | E-MTB | E-TOXX | 1:6.25 GEARING

Totally forgot to post this video here, it’s the last with Trampa deck and Matrix II trucks

That binding issue seems to be minor for me, but I am not you. :joy:
Yesterday I have done a minor maintenance of my board. Reinstalling my Davega (had a micropython bug), putting some grease into the drives and I got rid of the squeaking V-Rings with some Siliconespray and setup HFI for backup reasons.
And I start making clips with my new action cam.(Insta360 One R)

Hmmm that’s bitter with the motors.
Hope APS non the less will make things right!

Was looking at the hanger and not sure if I like this.

The kingpin is not protected by the rest of the hanger. Same with the bushing. I don’t worry about riding with it on easy terrain, but with a lot of stones in the way it seams to be a weak spot.

can you use a thinner bushing?

Gonna answer you later…

I’m ready to ride before it’s getting dark soon, hope the motors let me ride let’s see.
Just finished ghetto wiring of the motors and plastic spacers. :metal:

I am back and alive

But before giving feedback I need to tell the story from the beginning. The gears weren’t lubed so I wanted to spray grease through the small hole. Damn the can was empty so I tried to apply another grease through the hole with different tools which was nearly impossible. Then I remembered I have a syringe from HK, it worked perfectly :ok_hand:

I was geared up and strapped to the board. Then I wanted to start with smart reverse and looked backward. Well the board shot forward :joy: Hopefully there was nothing in the way. I was so in a rush when setting up that I didn’t realize the wrong direction of the motors. Direction inverted, ready again…

The first minutes of riding were very strange, the deck is confusing me  When riding straight the wide deck is comfortable but I can’t steer well with it. I felt like a noob, only steering with the hip worked but not really with lean, very strange. But also Im using trucks I don’t know but I’m quite sure it’s the deck.

The trucks… it’s very difficult for me to focus on the trucks with the Bro deck, I’m thinking about switching back to Trampa deck. I have the old HolyBro  drill pattern with the big hole in the middle so there is not really enough flesh for standard pattern. I think I drill those holes anyway someone told me the material is unbreakable. Joking aside I could use an aluminium plate from top.

Back to the trucks they feel different compared to channel trucks but it’s difficult to explain. It feels like there is some kind of cushioning thanks to the bushings which is very nice. Beside the fact that the 2 top bushings can be swapped (I have medium installed) it makes a big difference how much the kingpin is tightened. I don’t know yet at which point it is too loose but I tightened and loosened it many times during the ride to get a feeling.

Of course i have some pics…

The velcro on the vesc enclosure didn’t work, it rattled around but held by the 2 bolts on bottom. I have to think about a solution.

The motors… beside the fact that they make strange noises and the wobbly one starts to vibrate at higher speed I like them :joy: There is one special incline where I always test hill climbing ability of different setups, it is about 25° steep which is quite crazy.

I could climb the hill easily from standstill. During the climb I could accelerate quite crazy and ride faster . The third time I gave too much throttle and the front wheels lifted almost on the top, that was fun. I really love the 1: 6.25 gearing even with 9", crazy torque. With the former 6374 220kv i could climb this hill as well from standstill but not increase the speed.

Just for comparison, with 1:5 gearing on 8" and 6374 motors it is impossible to climb the hill from standstill. It needs quite a lot speed to be able to climb it and then the question was always if I make it to the top because you slow down and can’t accelerate any further.

Well and what’s on top of the hill? This

It’s fun riding close to the highway, I wonder what the people in the cars think

My God, that thing is gorgeous! As far as the odd riding/steering goes, at what angles do you have the baseplates set? Almost sounds similar to when I rode channel trucks on a 20° tipped deck. Turned like a semi and felt all wrong with not enough truck angle. I’m not sure what the tip and tail angles are on the Bro, but maybe those super wide trucks with that deck just requires a little more angle, possibly just on the nose?

Damn @rich that was one hell of a ride  Nice to read your experiences though, good writeup :love_you_gesture: Let’s say perfection takes time, im sure soon you will eliminate the little grimes. Glad she runs already though

And of course the etoxx porn is real :smirk:

Quicktip when steering with the bro. Use your foots. :+1:

The first year I rode with the brackets too múch outward that’s why I had to tighten the straps too much and got numb feet. After watching this tutorial I moved the brackets more inward and the difference is really huge! Old but gold, watch it

I have to say that the kinpin is not tightened at all in this pic that’s why it looks like this. Tightened the kingpin is a bit above the edge of the truck and the bushing is safe.

Of course it can be hit by objects but I don’t worry too much. I can’t go into details but I doubt the kingpin can be bent even when I would hit it. If I would post some disassembled pics you would know why but I can’t. But what I can do is to hit it several times which will happen anyway and report back

I don’t think so

At zero degrees and the Bro has 30° angle.
What confuses me is that normally on (tight) turns I put a lot of pressure on the (over the) edges so e.g. on toeside turns I grab the edge with my toes and put the pressure there. On the Bro my toes are bent a bit upward due to the concave and on turns I can’t put pressure there, it’s hard to explain. Also during the ride my rear toes got numb and had some small pain afterward.

Thanks bro

Are you drunk?

Prost :joy:(I don’t drink)

With the kingpin tightened down it looks way better. Still worry a bit that stones will hit the screw and damage the hole for the Allen key to the grade that it’s not possible to tighten/loosen the kingpin.
What’s the final length on the trucks?
300mm?
Did Jenso mention when he plan to start selling those official?

 dam, what a DIY adventure mate !
hahaa… thx I’m not alone, sometimes you just uninstall a setup and reuse part on another … and they didn’t work like before …
Do you think the unbalanced battle hardening motor can be in cause ?
Are they your old 6384 or new one ? can I ask again wich kv is it ?

Thx for all your feedback, about the Bro deck and those gorgeous 300 or 350 mm trucks,
I had the same feeling standing on the deck with the concave ^^ really not used to it. That makes me curious to try Kaly deck for example.

So, when do you plan your next vid bro !?? :stuck_out_tongue:

Valid point but the kingpin is so huge that I don’t even have the allen key for it but found a bit, it’s 6mm

For comparison on the left side 4mm what we use for M8 set screws e.g. on motor mounts

The hangers I have are 300mm (the smaller ones) I haven’t measure the axle length but they are longer than MBS maybe like Trampa or even longer. The axles are so accurate that the wheels (or washers) don’t wiggle on the axle (without axle nut) which is a new experience for me.

The max width of mounted wheels is about the same (a bit more) as Matrix II trucks with E-Toxx axle extensions or with offset hubs but you could mount them more narrow than on Matrix II.

No I guess it will take some time but I’m trying to help you by posting pics of the trucks to increase the pressure on them :joy:

No it’s not the battle hardening. The rotor was not balanced before so after filling the gaps it should be the same blance in theory. It is the shaft which wobbles. I recognized that the shaft wiggles inside the bearing and also sliding the can on or off the shaft was not easy.

The new ones in 200kv which are black, the other V2 versions in other KV are red.

I have to ride a bit more to get a better feeling for the wiiiiiide deck but if I can’t steer proper I’ll switch back to Trampa deck. Anyway I want to try the E-Toxx trucks on the Trampa deck because I know the deck and how it rides with different trucks and setups.

Next video is about wobbling shaft coming soon

I gonna upload today or tomorrow a jump video including my first 360° (rather 340-350°) which i shot 6 weeks ago, it’s time to upload, had some problems with the editing software.

Did you get to weigh those trucks?

A bit above 1kg not that heavy. (I measured 1.1kg with kitchen scales)

The Dirt Machine with Trampa deck, Matrix II trucks and 6374 motors weighted 18.4kg
Now with the Bro deck, E-Toxx trucks and 6384 motors the weight is 18.8kg

Both setups with 12s6p, the Pelicase alone is 0.8kg

Damn for how long is the lockdown? Any end in sight?

After weeks of lockdown the dirt park here is finally open again but my jump board is not rideable yet but hopefully next week.

We are sitting at home already 8 weeks.
My boards are all ready and fully rebuilt
We will need to sit at home till end of the month minimum.
Maybe I can come out of the city a bit for some days. There I could also ride every day. Let’s see. It is how it is at the moment.
