Why you think he is called trampinator?!?!
The funny thing is that the trucks are not even the reason for my title
For those who didn’t know now you know why I am the trampinator
For those who don’t know, @rich posted what was perhaps the greatest deck flex test video in the history of esk8. Watch it below and enjoy
Didnt know this Did you get a new deck from trampa? Didnt they say a trampa board was unbreakable?
IIRC, he was riding at night thinking he has night vision and went straight into a metal pole. LOL
It was the most stupid crash I ever had and I will have an ugly scar for the rest of my life.
But before it was fun. It happened in a skate park with kind of bowls. I was there with my commuter, a Trampa carver, after a while I even forgot that i don’t have bindings and sometimes jumped and left the board in the air but always landed on the board again. Lucky already. However there were many scooter kids and it was annoying. When it got dark the kids left and I had the skate park alone with a tiny mounted light on the board. When it was too dark to ride I thought let’s do a hardcore round and then leave the skate park.
Well me idiot gave full throttle and was quite fast but couldn’t see thís rail anymore and hit it with the left wheel really hard.
Damn it’s a crazy feeling when you suddenly get catapulted in the air and have no idea what’s going on. I was flipped upside down but could save my head and landed on the shoulder, elbow and back first.
Since this day I ALWAYS wear elbow and knee pads additional to helmet and gloves even when I ride for 2 minutes only. And this was a good decision because they saved my skin not only once.
Damn my elbow, it was a very deep wound and took a while to heal.
Trampa was so kind to replace the deck for free.
I also tried to break the cracked deck with jumping but without success. In the end there was more movement in the crack but still a deck in one piece
It was horrible for normal jumping (14ply) but it felt sooooo good in skate park or for doing stupid things on flat ground, I miss the flex.
I forgot to mention that I was still a lucky motherfucker. Look at the rail again and imagine what would have happened when I hit the rail sideways with my shims or knees. This could have ended so bad with consequences for the rest of my life
Damn dude thats hardcore… like you mentioned it could have ended a lot worse, luckely this wasnt the case
Dudddee, you called “last run”!
Looks like a f***er of a smash, glad you came out in mostly one piece
Thanks yeah it was epic, I still can hear that very loud impact sound followed by the uncontrolled flight waiting for the hard landing on concrete, I could do absolutely nothing and it was scary.
Made a video in exactly this skate park 2 years ago but with MTB, you can see the rail shortly at 02:19
BTW it’s very smart to build a skate park inside a park where skateboarding is forbidden
The inserts are fixed
@Haeroboards
I am really happy right now, had an expert group chat with @NoWind, @Duffman and @rene and they assumed epoxy inside the threads from gluing. I took a blow torch and was heating a long bolt and then step by step inserted it into the threads. The epoxy melted and TADA, I have a real Bro right now.
Feel the Broness then!
This week is crazy and I found no time to post updates because building is too time consuming and I need to finish it yesterday, hopefully tomorrow it’s done
I received E-Toxx trucks for testing and they are definitely not from this planet, I’m speechless, they are sexy AF
Jesus christ @NoWind @Duffman the real kings of esk8 porn
I mounted the front truck and it feels great (in socks without bindings) compared to Matrix II, very smooth, can’t wait to ride!
So second thing I did was this
Haha looks high grade I like it but I can’t take it off to open a beer
Glued the helicals with Loctite 648
Glued another set for the Jumpinator II…
I really want a new enclosure for the battery, the Pelicase is so big compared to what’s inside
I plan a smaller enclosure like @Pedrodemio recently did, I like it a lot, also the pocket is great.
I decided to keep the Pelicase for now because I want to ride ASAP. The first time I’m going with velcro but I don’t trust it, hope it holds.
I had to make the bottom flat
Final sanding and it’s totally flat, next I have to stick velcro to it.
1 hour ago I’ve mounted the motor plates. I was really enjoying the accurate square shape of the hangers, mounting was so easy. For helicals with 29mm distance to motor plate I use 3mm ABS sheets (2mm+1mm). I mount the wheel helical and wheel, tighten the axle nut and push the motor plate against the ABS sheets/helical and tighten the set screws. So easy and saves much time.
Then I recognized I forgot to use epoxy putty on the wires of the motors outside. Added a bit now I have to wait a little bit more then I can mount the motors and finish installing the drivetrain.
Meanwhile I cut 25mm aluminium spacers for the front truck to keep the raw look. I do it old school
I did that often but usually I mark the tube where to cut it but this time I used a sliding caliper and could exactly measure and adjust the distance from the end of the tube to the saw blade.
Damn that’s accurate
This night gonna be looooong my aim is to ride tomorrow and there is much more to do.
ho my … !!! Craziness here !! Enjoy mate
update at 1 am
2 stripes of velcro attached (the ones on the case a bit wider), the gap in the middle is for flex and because of the lttle camber in the middle.
Not sure if this is enough velcro but looks good according flex
Don’t laugh but I made a safety leash (not proper mounted here) so even when it pops off completely it can’t touch the ground or rip off the wires. I tested that before.
Battery and BMS connected
more cushioning
silicone sheet
done
I need to swap the voltage meter soon it’s broke. If I connect it to the BMS then the BMS shut off, it was nice to see voltage and also during charing.
So next is installing motors, drivetrain and then think about how to mount the vescs. I need to solder extension wires, add griptape and so on…
I crash a lot
Maybe I add a strap but i could rip it off
We’re in the same boat.
At least I try not to crash.
I had an close call with the postman’s bus riding downhill without brakes, because my Wand were frozen
Jeeeeesus, I’m so tired, worked on the board until 8 am
I had some massive issues and not sure what to do now.
I mounted the motors and adjusted backlash, first side was very easy and fast. Second motor was a joke, there was a wobble but I didn’t know if it’s the motor or the gear so I had to power it up first.
So it was time to mount the vesc enclosure, I drilled 2 holes and used the 2 free truck mounting holes on the deck
On the tip of the deck I use velcro to hold the other side of the enclosure. After mounting the enclosure was askew which drived me nuts. I spent a lot of time to add foam sheets to get it straight. When I was almost done I realized there was a reason for the askew enclosure, I was too tired to realize the jammed bullet connector below
After removing it and the foam sheets the enclosure was straight .
Time for motor detection
First of all the motors have strange sounds at lower rpm, BOTH temp sensors are broke and the shaft of one motor has a huuuuge wobble WTF!!!
Damn that’s bitter, thank you APS for this awesome top notch motors. Gonna contact them but am afraid there is no more warranty after battle hardening.
I go for a (short) ride today, I’m too curious about the trucks and deck. The gear won’t applause to the wobbling shaft but I’ve adjusted the backlash that it never jams. I can’t mount the wheels because I ran out of washers so I need to machine some out of a plastic tube (no time for aluminium).
When I prepared the griptape I recognized there is something weird going on. Both bindings are mounted exactly the same way but it’s different.
rear binding
same sheet of paper on the front binding
I was playing around for over 1 hour with different mounting combinations to fix this, it’s not perfect and I have to investigate further, it’s so strange…
