Is there any resource that covers eskate cornering skills? I want to hit the corners confidently and fast, utilizing all the tire grip without (at least less) fear of wiping out.
There is a whole lot of Youtube tutorials on how to corner on snowboard and downhill longboard, some of which are helpful but not quite the same as eskating. Would love to learn more on foot position, stance, center of gravity, balance between feet, what the upper body is supposed to do, etc. while hard cornering. Maybe there already is a ready-made tutorial? (not board setup or racing tips, I don’t think I’ll ever race)
We mostly learn this stuff by doing. repetition is key.
very few people will be able to put anything in to words or videos that will be as helpful as going out and feeling it out.
if you can attend an intro2speed or setup your own mini track somewhere with cones… track practice, really helps get better at turning and riding. and it’s fun.
and it doesn’t have to be about racing.
gear up to help with some of the fear.
take it easy as you push past your boundaries and improve slowly. (again repetition is key)
Also don’t forget about your throttle, downhills board sports get gravity for that free acceleration - you need to make your own. A light throttle after breaking yo keep you planted on the board helps but be conservative at first until you get the right feel
Yeah throttle definitely helps a lot with pushing your feet down into the deck and keeping pressure through the turn

when you first realize you just used the throttle to lean yourself back up as you exit a turn.
Surface matters a ton, too. The only time I’ve managed to lose traction on my board was on a slick part of the track at Esk8 Con. I wasn’t even trying to push it at all because I was stuck behind someone, but I tried to hit the throttle out of a turn on a slick part where there was a patch, and my back wheels started coming out really fast.
Any chance someone knows if the boardnamics hanger profile is a 20x20mm square?
I want to get 4 of these for making my own motor mounts, maybe 8 if someone recommends using one on each side of each motor mount to keep gears aligned better.

I know MBS has some but it would be $100 for 4, 200 if I want 2 clamps per mount for precision and stiffness. Know of any others?
The Boardnamics M1AT adapters pictured bottom $70 for 4 are probably going to be the best hopefully I get lucky with where they line up on the hanger and the sides are thick enough to thread.

Flipsky has a $136 (with discount) 70120 inrunner, I would not use the extra power but would it have a longer lifespan than our outrunners and would it have better freespinning losses while being as powerful?
Also only 4 poles instead of 14! Great news for VESCs! I can gear down 1:10 by lasercutting a big spur gear but still want a lower kV than 480. It does not come with temperature sensors, but I think overheating is unlikely.
Also to double check, if you use a high Kv motor on hV and don’t gear down significantly does the VESC make significantly more heat even though the motor is still roughly as efficient?
Hey guys, good to be back again. I have a few questions about a possible e-skate that I want to build. I’m on a tight budget this time ($1,500 max) and I want to get the most out of it.
I’m thinking of going for a Tynee Mini 3 deck or something of similar size, but as for the motors, trucks, and battery, I’m probably going for an acedeck nyx Z3 system. Will it be possible? Since the board is so short, it might cause some issues to have such a wide truck system.
Wouldn’t you end up running into too high of an eRPM first? Or does 4 poles solve that?
The scenario I am thinking of is 170kv 19S 63xx flipsky which is a lot of rpm for those motors and lots of freespinning losses, at full charge that’s under 100k erpm, I think 150k is the usual limit. It would only make sense and be easily possible to be geared much above your top speed. What I am trying to confirm is if lowering Kv to just above your desired top speed is more efficient within the VESC.
In this scenario having enough speed from 140kv under the same gearing and running 82% as many motor amps for the same torque and motor load.
In terms of inrunners I don’t know much about inrunners but those would have 3.5x less erpm for the rpm as outrunners. So at least in the relevant motors a vesc has to switch as fast for a 190kv outrunner as it does a 665kv inrunner.
1/2 way thru my ride home, my board looses 90% power and my Hoyt puck starts beeping at me. Turned it off and on, no changes. Same beep. Same no power. (Multiple times)
Board is a kaly XL50 bought a few months back. Somewhat diy

They swapped out the battery so my house shouldn’t blow up (hopefully)
Open that baby up and look for loose connections. Tack some good clear pics and post them up for all us hyper nerds to nitpick and scrape over. Have a meter to test voltage at different spots?
