Beginner Question Thread! 2023 Edition

BN drives always sound a bit fucky unloaded in my experience, but I think I’m hearing more clicks than what is normal for your setup… not sure. Bearings all ok? Spacer in place to secure the drives?

I wonder if the clicking unloaded is caused by the smoothness of the ramping, if the wheel momentum is causing the gears to click the backlash as it hits duty cycle limits. The little momentary motor deceleration would make the wheel gear get ahead of the pinion and click. The motor is probably doing this hundreds of cycles per second to ramp up and also when it hits max rpm.

The clicking on my drives unloaded made me nervous at first but now i just ignore it. Loaded it sounds amazing . Those sound good to me but I’m no expert

That sounds like my Omakase build with BN M1 drives on it. Definitely more clickity clackity than the Newbee 4GS I have on my long board.

Lol you’re right - Last night I ultimately just said fuck it its probably bc it’s unloaded and yeah this thing sounds sick

Is this kind of sticker common on anything electronic from Trampa? I know they’re kind of shit but I didn’t think it was to the point of breaking right to repair laws. (which aren’t an exclusively US thing)

(Screen shot from a recent sales post)

Posting this over here since it is completely unrelated to the sales post

more than likely the opposite my backlash is on the liberal side

What right to repair law lol

Is A2-50 stainless steel robust enough for use in attaching wheel pulleys to hubs? I’ve got idea pulleys that I’m throwing on some Rockstar II pros and I’ve got A2-50 on hand. There is a 20mm threaded standoff screw between the hub and the pulley as well.

Those stickers are illegal here actually. Not sure elsewhere though

Hm. So technically they’re only illegal if they prevent the user from opening the device

They’re illegal because they cannot be used to actually deny someone from getting a replacement if the device fails while still under warranty. It is a thing both here in the US and in the EU and probably in other countries as well.

It is worth noting that in general the EU offers the consumer more protections compared to what we have here in the US. Also for some reason it is also a state by state thing even though this is 100% something that should just be a federal law.

come back when UK is in either one of them

UK choose to leave the EU on their own :person_shrugging: Not my fault they left and I have no idea what laws they kept around from the EU or which ones that got the axe

Hey there. Quick question, I might’ve figured out why my throttles been messed up. I’m not sure if keeping the value for the ‘Battery Current Max’ the same for my 8000mAh 5s Lipos as 45A, before i set it to 8A but I’m not sure if i need to change anything. Any advice?

It’s kind of hard to hear over the gear drive chatter, but does this creaking sound normal? Can’t tell whether it’s coming from my bushings or my tunnel riser/baseplate area…

I changed my gearing to be able to test for these faults at lower speeds, but they continue even after redoing my connection from my pack to my controller. I managed to get the log too, but I have no idea what I am looking at when I open it up.

I think 8 amps would cause (under) or overcurrent? Not sure

It is hard to tell, lube up your bushings and see if it disappears. I use liquid dish soap but that’s just from skating before the internet and I’ve never looked it up to see if there’s a better way
