2nd place BOTY 2024!!

Thank you everyone who voted for Archangel, super happy with the final result of the board. Looks like it’s supposed to slowly start warming up next week. Took a week long break from riding to reset and also go on a short trip. Might set up a track I’ve run with Sidewinder and see where the board is at. Also need to do some speed runs and see how the trucks feel. Lots of testing to get done before esk8con but we’ll get there. Hopefully it warms up sooner than later.

Found something cool yesterday.

^^ Sidewinder: 18s geared to 42mph like 3 days before my accident. (82° F)

^Archangel: 16s geared to 52mph (37.5°F)

Slightly different lines but 3 second difference between the boards. It appears that I was more comfortable getting back up to speed on this board than the last one. I have another “track” that i logged on the racebox nearby so i’ll try and compare those two as well in the boards. Still have yet to best my 0-20 time I set on sidewinder but I suspect that has to do with my gearing, surface temps, and being lower voltage.

It’s been a while since i updated this thread.

Finally went to an I2S in Portland at Pats Acres. It’s a big outdoor gokart track with lots of elevation changes, long straights and sweeping curves.

Also ran into Estelita who drove all the way from Cali. She’s finally getting back on the board after an injury and she’s been doing great.

The front stretch is almost 700ft long so plenty of space to get up to speed, unfortunately I never fully charged the board and I was only geared to 52mph so I only saw 48mph which is still a personal record for me. Also had the opportunity to meet Douglas (euc racer) and we pushed each other around the track for a couple laps which dropped our best times for the day by around a second.
I am amazed at how stable the duality trucks feel at speed and I’m feeling confident enough to hit 50’s. At on point in the day, I slammed my brakes too hard (briefly locking the front) and it sent me into an oscillation that stopped almost immediately and that’s when I knew these were my favorite trucks. Even when you induce a wobble, they recover so quickly.
The board is now geared to 58 to account for the speed dropping after the battery drops below 4v. I have yet to put it through its paces tho as the track has been flooded for the past few weeks. I’ll have to find a straight road to take it up to speed and try to hit 50’s before the con.

Video from my buddy James of me doing a lap.

Did make a stop at Maryhill Loops Rd this week and it’s such a wonderful view. It was super windy tho and cracks have formed in the road. Still worth it tho.

While I haven’t been riding the board, been figuring out euc one ride at a time. I had a 1.5 month hiatus from euc as I focused on setting the board up for the con. Might bring it with me to the con for the group rides but haven’t decided yet.

Nice bro, that’s fast. Do you know what your setup is going to be for esk8con? (Angles, bushings)

Front: 40° 95.5/88 wfb barrel
Rear: 15° 92.5aps/95wfb chubby

I could probably get away with lowering the angle in the front but I honestly don’t see the need to. 45mph feels like 30, didn’t even know I hit 45 until I checked logs. (took the screen off)

Post Esk8con update:

This board got a major revamp prior to the con. Pulled the rear v2 solos in favor of some G300’s after seeing how well they’ve been performing with @tuckjohn and Andy. I was running out of amps on the v2 solos pulling 230 per motor from the rears in launches. Huge thanks to @Skyart for overnighting them to me so I could mount them in time for the trip and race.

Wasn’t expecting these to be so big -she lol
Had to figure out how I was gonna mount them with the limited between space my top box and binding.
Went through multiple orientations finally settling on this one.

With the oritntation decided, the board got disassembled in preparation for drilling holes to pass the motor wires and battery leads through for the g300’s. Esc’s got mounted, holes were drilled, wires got cut to length, connections were crimped/soldered, and for the most part, it went fairly smoothly (aside from some broken screws before using stronger ones). The graphic was having trouble sticking so removed it. The g300’s would’ve covered it anyways.

Idk if anyone here has been shocked with a hv pack before but I wasn’t about to become part of that club so I threw hot glue on all the connections for the g300’s.

Unfortunately, I was unable to run all 4 esc’s (2 solos and 2 g300’s) on the power button from the solos so I had to solder up a new one just got the g300’s. I now have a separate power button for the front and rear esc’s but it works so :man_shrugging:t5:.

Next morning, I ran detection and thought everything went smoothly. I didn’t run sensor detection so one of my front motors weren’t spinning properly. Fortunately that was an easy fix after I figured out the issue and with that, the board was ready to go.

First leg of my roadtrip was to Portland to test the board at Pats Acres Racing Complex and pick up a mlr for @MoeStooge to being down with me. Testing went great and hit 50 for the first time. Board was feeling good and I felt it was ready for the con. Walked with my euc as well for the Vegas group rides which I never ended up going on. Douglas was kind enough to let me bunk at his place for the night. Charged the board up and left around noon for SLC to see @Swol_Moon. Arrived close to midnight so are dinner and went straight to bed. Next afternoon, (after a gym sesh), we did some pinion changes and wheel swaps on Mooney’s board which ofc didn’t not go smoothly but we got it done.

Thursday morning, we packed the vehicles up and drove down to Vegas where me, @Swol_Moon, @zero_ads and @poastoast went for a red rock speed run.

Friday was qualifying, we all did pretty good, had lots of coconut water to keep us hydrated.

Also did some drag racing on Friday but came up short to the electric dirtbike DCEsk8 brought with them. Was still pretty happy with the performance as I was within a board length of it every time. Not bad for not even half the power of the bike.

Saturday, we got to the track late cause we slept in but we still had plenty of time to practice before our heat races. Made it to the finals and I was super stoked.

Sunday was finals and I had so much fun racing with everyone. I was having great launches all weekend and it got me from 8th to 5th in the first turn. Eventually got passed Brady but wasn’t quite able to pass Vasek due to his impressive defending and my shit lines lol. Plenty of space for improvement on my part but we’ll get there. Next couple races will all be sort of the EERL series so that’ll be lots of fun. Board is already in AZ thanks to Joe driving it over.

Thank you bro, extremely happy with the boards performance. Just gotta improve my racing lines and cornering for this race season now.

Just posting the updates I made to this thread.

Had a good shakedown in Vegas and Phoenix. Needed to make some improvements with the turning so @Titoxd1000 set me up with some shorter hangars and new bushings.

Also dropped my drag times by a couple tenths by dropping battery amps and increasing motor amps in the front. I think I can still squeeze more performance out of the board with new tires. Still waiting for my new set of brp’s and the supernovas to arrive. Might also swap to 78t pinions but I need to check fitment first.

Also got my motor mounts a little higher off the deck so should hopefully hit less rocks while riding lol.
