Apex Jump Drive

Hi mate

Because Apex Jump Drives are so thin they actually only need 24mm of hanger length on that profile to work so they should fit with the approporiate clamp without any modification to the hanger!

The only question would be on the length of the axles, that would determine if its feasible or not

@ApexBoards
What is this dimension? Basically wondering if 6 in tires will work with these.

Not sure what position it exactly is, but here with 6". Credit Queron

Thanks, that kinda answers my question then. I didn’t see that photo.

yeah it works man. obviously not amazing clearance but useable! Are you thinking about putting these on your TKP? that would be awesome

Yes.

You can see the axel dimensions. The axel flange that tightens to the hanger is 15mm diameter. If the through hole for the adapter is to small, I can open it up like I’ve done for a few BN’s.
I wouldn’t be using mbs or trampa hubs, but I’m sure I could make a wheel adapter to suit whatever hub.
My belt drives suit me just fine riding on the street the way I do. But, I have considered gears for my personal use for awhile, even considered making my own. After seeing these so far……Damn, it’s checking all the boxes, so no need! (But need some for thane as well😉)

Urban Treads are 6.5", but yeah close enough; clearance looks surprisingly good! I wonder if we will get a larger version in the future for 1:8 reduction or something

I want these so bad, but my wallet says no

Same boat. :joy:

Maybe :relieved: lots of things to make, so little time.

My wallet says no to almost everything, (mainly because I’m a tight wad). But when I see something great, I over rule wallet.
(wife does not always agree with my so called “over ruling” powers though)

See if this helps

Can confirm. This is with offset Phatlads hubs, with rockstar II or fivestar the tyre would sit much closer into the drive.

You sold some trucks, you bought a set of drives. Seems like a fair exchange

might be a little short, our drives were designed to replace the 20mm spacer often used between the hanger and hub bearing on most apex, trampa and moon builds.

They take up 20mm of axle space.

That said Im sure you can make it work.

If you drop @ducktaperules a PM were happy to assist you with dimensions to make adapters for your hubs.

Beautiful and thoughtful design… great job.
I like it

Been on a bit of an upgrade spree today but i think its interesting so ill post some pictures.

First up on the operating table was a customers early 2021 Predator.

Unfortunately it suffered a drive failure whilst he was abusing it on a pump track yesterday.

Hes been through a fair few of these gears now so decided rather than replacing them again it might be better to upgrade.

One thing to note is that his older motors dont have the circlip slots, so were fitting the gears with a good application of green LOCTITE as you would with any other drive. Shaft is cut at 24mm, this is the same length that his old drives required so nothing needed re-cutting to complete the swap.

All done, happy customer. He was keen to ride but i told him hes gotta give it 24 hour for the LOCTITE to cure.

Next up on the chopping block was my early 2021 Demo Predator (I take to uk events and group rides for people to try). This also needs Updating to 2022 spec ready a few events over the next 2 months. gotta let people test drive the goods.

This one was a little easier as new motors allow for use of the circlips.

On this one i ended up building the drives up on a spare hanger then just swapping it out as it was much easier than working directly on the board.

This ended up being really useful as i was able to to put the early 2021 and 2022 predator drivetrains side by side for some comparison shots.

This shows the decent increase in clearance.

And a good reduction in width, as well as how tightly the Jump drives sit towards the wheel compared to last years drivetrain.

Finally you can see that the Jump Drives were designed to sit a couple mm within the wheel diameter on 8" tyres. This means you wont catch the drives or motors whist you drag your board around.

Got the hanger back on and wiring sorted then went out for a quick test ride. This board is now up to date other than the new deck graphics.

As you can see, overall clearance is amazing on this new setup. had to go take some nice photos

i see a lot of comparison to moon drives, would be interesting to some pics of boardnamics against the jump drive as they were both designed around steel gears and those were the standard option on apex boards up till recently
super dig the circlip useage.

Here you go.

As I see the motor shaft which is cut to 24mm still stands out over the pinion end, it would be possible to cut a slot for a circle clip with a dremel. :face_with_monocle: I‘m thinking about giving it a try when I have my gears in hand.
