Time to make an enclosure. Aim is to fail a couple of times as usual ;D First step, making a mold.
I dig that look even with the cutouts for wheel bite.
Fail number two. CNC machine broke down, some wires that have been cut from the last 8hr cutting session…
Had to remove the whole gantry to get to the wires (big mistake).
Coffee fixes everything.
Stitched up.
10 Hours later, back on track.
That thing looks good and solid
Looks textbook, nice work
Is that mold release or a gelcoat on your mold?
Thanks man! I’m trying with a gelcoat/glass fiber mold. I’ll be surprised if the first try goes well, but so far so good.
Vacuum bagging went well but the mold was too weak and broke when I tried to separate the gelcoat/glassfiber from the MDF mold.
Had to come up with a way to get that thing out.
One hour later I got the release but some dents in the mold. Tried to fix them with some gelcoat putty but hard to get back the original shape. I have to make a decision to remake the whole thing with a better mold or fix the dents again.
Decided. I’m going to try some reckless sanding and some more putty and perhaps some top coat to get it back into shape. To eager to ride this thing to start over.
I’ve found that putting peel ply over a mass of filler material lets you get the surface very consistent. You can shape the filler underneath and the fabric gives you a ‘preview’ of the finished surface
I might have to do that! Thanks!
Guessing you will run an external antenna for the carbon enclosure.
Probably rehashing a conversation point, what makes you want to use cloud Wheels over similar rubber wheels?
Would be nice to see a side by side with a Summerboard caster module.
One last point if I was making a run of those castor frames I would include two mounting holes near the axle to bolt a plate allowing farther away axle that fit 5-6in pneumatics, or could be used to affix square axle adapters to mount hub motors.
